"but a rapper with a ghost writer" - Prophet Kendrick
💀💀💀🤣
Drake has been known to have ghostwriters for a long time. He was infamous for it
we’ve come full circle. aged like fine wine. this beef was like Messi winning the World Cup with Argentina. final piece of the puzzle for the legacy. All Hail King Kendrick
fr, music (/football) won
You're wrong on this gee, Kendrick started the diss against Drake, Messi never insulted or dissed Ronaldo, it was the other way around
@@ebukaanaso9712 on a spiritual level Kendrick is closer to Messi just like Drake is closer to CR - more superficial frequency. And Messi never shied away from challenging him on a football field, where it matters. “notice I say we, it’s not just me, I’m what the culture feelin’” just like with Messi. the culture, his colleagues, journalists consider him a Goat while CR is sidelined, not trying to take anything away from both CR and Drake's achievements though.
Kendrick's songs are like good wine. They get better as they age. He's just ahead of his time.
This is what I was just thinking especially In regards to this song.

Bro go listen to the heart pt 4 now which was dropped right before this album. It reads as a straight up time travel, most ruthless top to bottom response diss to Cole. As he’s saying this song is prophetic and he even got his apology to the day in it April 7th lmfao
Not Like Us really making us go to Kendrick’s entire catalogue 🔥
The yams reference not only a black cultural food, but also, saying he smells it down the street, is a direct reference to Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man, where the narrator finally is able to reject the ideologies that was fed to him which made him ashamed of is culture, of eating yam, but finally, he buys a yam and feels “freedom” and is ultimately motivated to become an orator for Black equality.
Thanks for this.
Yousef it’s a triple entendre. It also references yams from things fall apart by Chinua Achebe in which yams are seen as a form of currency and therefore power, hence Kendrick says everyone wants to cut the legs off of him when he has achieved wealth and prosperity, notably the white man
Yams are also slang for cocaine
Thank you for sharing! I'm white but Kendrick is THE BEST!!! The more you listen the more artistry there is to discover. I love yams but now I understand the reference!!!!

Kendrick won 👑
You can tell he love us, this culture. And hiphop
I love how this guy won the Pulitzer Prize in music. Not in rap, pop, etc - but in the entire universe of MUSIC for 2018. Do you know how many people with a PhD in classical music or jazz he must've pissed off? All of them, is the answer. That is an amazing achievement
Pulitzer Prize isn't that great of a deal in music. But, even without all the prizes he has won, he's one of the greatest, he created a legacy that will never be forgotten. Prizes are bullshit if you want to compare quality of something, atleast in rap. Look at Nas, we all know that he didn't won big prizes, but he's one of the greatest rappers to ever touch a pen. Music is relative, prizes can't be used as a measure.
@@Portthefirst it's a big deal because it awards based on artistry alone. Whereas the Grammys and other awards choose their recipients based on sales, radio play, and other commercial factors. The Pulitzer Prize committee doesn't care about popularity or revenue potential. They only focus on the contribution the artist has made to the body of artistic work.
Will B you can check in google, in the music section it's not that much of a deal. You have plenty of albums/ songs that have better body artistic of work, one of them is Lupe Fiasco - Mural. But, nevertheless as I told you, rap is domething different, no prizes can truly determine if a rapper is better than the other, and Nas, Hov, Em, Rakim, G Rap, Kendrick, Lupe Fiasco, the whole Wu Tang and so on told us that. Glad to live in an era where I can listen freely these rap songs, it's wonderful.

David Bowie's band that he used to make his last album "Blackstar" would listen to Kendrick's album for inspiration during downtimes in recording. So, you have one of the greatest artist of the 20th century influenced by a young rapper. Not many people outside of Bowie's hard core fans know this. Interesting stuff if you ask me.
nallly Eh it's pretty obvious he was trying to distance himself from classic rock. Common knowledge he listened to Death grips and Kendrick
He always did what he wanted and never tried to make "classic rock" . Listen to "Young Americans" and tell me if that is classic rock. It's more soul than anything. Each album of his 26 albums has it's own character.

Some people don't like Kendrick. Some don't like Drake (Me). Some don't like trap music, or weird rap (Odd Future, Lil Dicky) but y'all gotta respect all forms of hip hop. The world needs different style. If every rapper made music like your favorite rapper, he wouldn't be special anymore. He/She would be generic. You don't have to like other kinds of rap but appreciate them. They make your favorite rapper look good in your eyes.

Here's how I feel about it, Kendrick is great, but he has terrible fans that like him for all the wrong reasons. Kendrick makes entertaining music, and he's a talented rapper that can incorporate social commentary into his music without it being distasteful, but he's not the "brooding and deep" incredible lyricist that his seemingly youthful fans make him out to be. He makes references and can form some clever word play on his lyrics, but they're not deep or hard to figure out. Sorry but Kendrick's career is turning into an Odd Future situation with these young ass overzealous fans. Odd Future ain't shit anymore because all the little white kids jump on the next act. Y'all gonna hate me for saying this, but I know that Kendrick has a ton of white fans and white people just don't like real hip hop - they like the "oh so "clever" social commentary"...a rapper with too many white fans is doomed to be forgotten, just like Tyler the Creator and Hopsin. Yeah I said it. This is the reason they don't like J Cole, who has the quintessential hip hop sound that white people just can't get into. J Cole was influenced by one of hip hop's greatest lyricists (Nas) and has exhibited lyrical genius himself and is why he'll be remembered more. But to re-iterate, Kendrick is definitely great but a little overrated.
