I saw Roger and his band (not supertramp) about 11 or 12 years ago. He was so upbeat and positive and the crowd of easily over 50,000 loved him and his music.

Don't be hung up on musical genres. First it doesn't matter, second who cares if the music is great? The greatest bands cover many genres and they often overlap. Next Supertramp song should be Goodbye Stranger, a real banger. This song is the definition of upbeat, eh?

Trying to nail down a label on them is a lot like trying to come up with names for ethnicities. None can be put in a simple box and labeled. Like Billy Joel says, Hot punk, cold funk,even if it's old junk, it;s still rock and roll to me". For example, ":yacht rock" which this song would fit into, is a term that came around 25 years after the genre ended. At the time, we had Rock, hard rock, soft rock, RnB, jazz and country/western. It is only this generation that seems to want to divide, and put this music into different labeled boxes. I think you are trying to hard for simple enjoyment.
