- Pt. Venkatesh Kumar's rendition of the late morning Raag Jaunpuri at the FEA curated morning concert series Prabhati was an apt choice and performed with great spirit, vigour and devotion. Accompanists Bharat Kamat on tabla and Ajay Joglekar on harmonium were both superb and delivered amazing dexterity and colour to keep up with the energy of Panditji. Even the supporting vocals by Shivraj Patil and Ramesh Kolkunda was enthusiastic and spirited.

I wonder the way Panditji is reaching the high notes with his full volume and energy! This is the evident outcome of years' and years' tough Riyaz with utmost perseverance, instead of running after worldly fame. This is "sadhana" in its true sense.

You are right. Consider raag Bahaar Adana and Darbari Kanada which are all three of the same asarvari thaat. I love Pandit Professor Ji.

The key phrase in the song/raga he is rendering goes "gaan vidya badi kathin..." literally translating to "the art of singing is very difficult to master...". He sings this very phrase and the whole composition so effortlessly that he makes it look easy. Riyaaz is the term for mindful practice and grunt work that needs to be put in to learn any art.

a Rag differently on every occasion & as effectively & melodiously is phenomenal-- a rare gift fom the Almighty.

Dharwad has produced all time greats in Classical Music. Venkatesh Kumar is certainly among the greats. But for some reason the academies have forgotten to give him the much needed recognition.

Actually Dharwad-Hubali area has given wonderful classical singers to Hindustani style of classical music...Pt. Bhimsen Joshi.. Pt.MallikarjunMansoor...Gangubai Hangal....SawaiGandharv...Ganapati Bhat....Pt. Venkatesh kumar.....It is interesting to note that Dharwad-Hubali-Gadag is in karnataka but all singers are from Hindustani shaili... Amazing....

Some people have a voice so beautiful as if it were a gift from God. Through Panditji's voice however, it is Mahadeva himself speaking to us.

Pt. Venkatesh Kumar from North Karnataka, reminds us of the Classical Titan Pt. Bhimsenji...from the same region. Khadkhadit Aaawaz ,aani Taan aase , Aatun Yetat! means a Deep Strong Voice with the Taan's Coming from within, are the Hallmarks of all Classsical Musicians from this region. Be it Tabla, as you see the Ease with which Pt. Raghunath Nakodji plays and also Bharatji, Yeh Ek bhagwan ki Dain Hai!! Or be it Vocalists, All have a very Strong delivery in Hindusthani Classical. Upcoming singers like Jayateerth Mevundi and tabla artistes Ravikiran and of course Rajendra Nakod. his uncle. And His Elder Brother Vishwanath Nakodji, My friend , now also presenting very good Vocal Performances. Ofcourse Pt Bhimsenji's influence can be seen, But That level to reach will be very Kathin!! Panditji needs to be promoted on bigger stages, but he prefers Teaching! We still have hope for our Hindusthani Classical Music! Jai ho!

Yes you are right. He had his training in gurukul system under the tutelage of saint puttaraj gawai. He was far away from the limelight for some 20 years unlike some other artists. And was really serious of his sadhna for 20 years which we are witnessing now.
