- Pt. Venkatesh Kumar was the headlining artiste on Day 2 of the FEA-curated PAST/PRESENT festival in Kolkata. He was accompanied by Pt. Samar Saha on tabla and Pt Jyoti Goho on harmonium. Tanpura and vocal support were provided by Ramesh Kolkunda and Meher Paralikar.
In this video panditji performs a perennial favourite in Raag Durga.
This singer is really an Indian treasure. He should be awarded the Padma Vibhushan post haste and should be considered as a primary candidate
for Bharat Ratana.

What to say about this great legend in classical field.' Sadhana ' Saralata' sumadhuratha ' are felt in his vocals.
Listening in the dark, on a mono speaker, and yet this music is three dimensional, the more I listen to Indian classical music the more my heart and mind open. Out of this world
yes indian classifical music is very intricate and complex, the more you listen the more/better you'll be able to appreciate its beauty! This style is known as hindustani, which makes one half of the main classical music system in India! Check out the other half, carnatic music as well!

As @viprez301 Ji says we have two very important systems of Indian Classical Music. The names of the ragas are in most cases are the same but there is a very suttle difference. Carnatic Music Compositions are those that have been composed by 'Saint Poets' i.e. the music is very much in praise of God. In Hindustani Music the compositions are mainly Poetry and an expression of love, and are best understood by watching the movements of the long and slender necks of women, specially when it's a Thumri. In other words Carnatic Music is all about Bhakti (ones devotion to God) and is very Sanskritic whereas Hindustani is all about Passion and is in Urdu. But then Hindustani Musicians too sing what are called 'Bhajans' i.e. these compositions written in praise of God. However the Mewati Gharana (Gharana=style of singing the same Raga) is one that basically sing essentially in praise of God, the Doyen of this Gharana is Pandit Jasraj.

Sakhi Mori has been rendered by so many folks., but still Pandit ji created soulful variations and kept me captured in this spiritual journey.
