So what I'm getting is that you're an introvert, and you liked being by yourself, but you also kinda wanted someone to talk to, every now and then. Sounds like me. Lol. Really good videos
Hmm you got it, Melanie 😂 I’ve got no problem being alone and doing anything by myself but I’m also open to chatting to new people. Depends what mood I’m in 😁
@@TravelWithBen121 lol, that's the Libra in me. #WOOHOO. I can't wait, I'll be retired as of April 1st and I'll already be in Aruba. Then I'll be doing some traveling solo. I'm so excited. Mostly about retirement though. Happy travels
As an introvert I would find it SO uncomfortable having meals with strangers. I’ve always admired people who can easily do so! Hope you go on more cruises! Your videos are great to watch. ❤
It’s your vacation, do whatever you want! Some people hate eating alone and others hate eating with strangers. Both are right as it’s your choice. I don’t have a problem with either, just depends on my mood 😁 thank you for watching! Hopefully another cruise soon 🙏
Don’t limit yourself because you are an introvert. I am an introvert and have found going solo on a cruise is so easy. Lots to do and you don’t have to socialize if you don’t want to. There is no pressure.
My very first cruise was on Feb 20, 2-25. I did a 10 day trip to the Eastern Carribean aboard the NCL Getaway also staying in a SOLO cabin . I thought overall the process was very nice . The staff friendly accommodating when needed and professional.
This is a great channel, Ben! I look forward to seeing your channel grow. It’s a lot of work to have dinner with new people every night, it is like having a bunch of blind dates in a row.
*Thank you* so much for clarifying how luggage is dealt with, and especially that passengers *can* handle their own baggage if that's what they prefer! I hate enforced baggage service with a passion (Having always preferred rucksacks and the exercise I get through them, I'm really accustomed to keeping everything on my person) so the knowledge that it *is* OK for me to walk aboard with my own luggage and take it to my cabin by myself is _hugely_ reassuring! 😁 Another advantage of carrying your own baggage - Especially in rucksacks and other body-hung bags - Is that they save a lot of time on disembarkation day; While everybody else is waiting in _long_ queues for the lifts, you can simply amble up/down the stairs and straight to the exit! 🇬🇧⬅🚶💨🇪🇺👍 Reference your _fruit loop_ dining partner; Eccentric folk pop-up just about anywhere (I know this well as I'm one of those folk) and that's admittedly a fact of life, but one thing that's worth taking into account is if they show signs they might be a _character_ (We often do; That chaps overtly colourful suits, my obvious obsession with high-speed rail etc) is to give a bit of advance thought as to whether you'd be comfortable sitting near/dining with them, and if not to choose options which reduce or eliminate the possibility - Like sticking with a single table, pairing-up with a family group that you know you get along with, or dropping back a few places in the queue to increase the likelihood you'll be seated apart. ↔ Granted, a lot of us are _extraordinarily_ sensitive to negative social response (A large element of why we're overtly eccentric is in attempt to gain social acceptance) but if those distancing measures are done in such a way that we won't spot them (Or which we can be assured are nothing to do with ourselves) then it's a *lot* kinder and easier going on those of us who are affected by such things! 🌻❤😇👍
There’s a few reasons why you would want to personally take your own luggage on and off the ship. You might get on the ship at 1pm but sometimes you might not receive your luggage until 7-8pm, sometimes as late as 10pm! Of course, if you bring your own luggage on, you’ll always have it. When leaving the ship, some people have flights booked at 8-9am so it makes sense for them to take their own luggage off the ship at 6am to catch their flight. I wasn’t in a rush so no need to take my own luggage off. When it comes to the ‘fruit loop’, nothing I said about him was negative 😂 he was a very interesting and friendly guy, the only reason I agreed to sit with him was because he got turned away so I felt bad for him! But the conversation was very outrageous, like a film script 😂 this was the last night on board and I ate dinner alone every other night so it was a bit of a shock to the system HAHA thank you for watching 🙏
Hi Ben! Been following your NCL Getaway videos from start to finish. Great job. Really helpful towards my June solo cruise on that ship. I can relate to that odd last dinner's experience from a few previous solo cruises. Not sure if people feel compelled to entertain you whenever they see you are alone (and sad, they presume). "No comprendo" would be a great excuse, but people will still go to unexpected lengths to try and communicate with you (or annoy you, for that matter). I used to try and mingle with other solo cruisers in the past, but as I grow older I slide more and more into the "I just want to be alone" thing. 😅😅😅
Thank you, Pan! I appreciate your support on the videos! You’ll love the Getaway, ship is great! I have no problem eating alone but the only reason I sat with him was because I felt bad he got turned away 😂 it’s nice to meet people but it’s definitely hit or miss. Depending on your mood, you can choose to keep to yourself or mingle with others. Good luck! 🤞
Thanks for showing. Last day is no fun. I was always sad when I left ships and friends. I like your show and videos of ship. I hope to have a long trip between the USA and Europe. 😊
@@TravelWithBen121 Thanks. Sometimes I was sad that I left some nice ships and friends. Sometimes I was glad I left few ships that I don't like or enjoy like Carnival and Costa ships. Hi Ben, really enjoyed all of your videos of the cruise. So glad that you had a nice Sunny day for the last cruising day. It was nice to see the calm Blue water. Sorry to hear about the last dinner dinning experience. One good lesson to take away is usually people that wear extremely bright colored clothes, will probably have an over the top personality. Hope this isn't offensive, but just a thought. Looking forward to the arrival in New York and your time exploring it. New York is a city where there is always something going on 24 hours a day. Best wishes for your upcoming travels and exploration.
Cheers, Ben! I appreciate you watching all of the cruise videos, NYC videos starting tomorrow 👍 the colourful suit guy was harmless 😂 just not a very relaxing experience. On to the next adventure!
I've been on cruises with my partner and from time to time there are periods where we like to be solo for some reason, like one having a snooze, doing some laundry, gym etc. I've even ate in the buffet solo on a few occasions. It's more common and enjoyable than you'd think.
When people put their bags out in the passageway the night before to be collected, invariably there is someone who forgets to set their clothes aside for the next day and they leave the ship in whatever they wore to bed, if anything at all.
Good morning, Ben ! I used to see a couple of dolphins leaping up and down along the side of the cruise ship. They were playful and cheerful ! Yes, leaning on a long chair under the sun is quite an experience !
I have already seen your video after you arrived in NYC and the many problems you had with your accommodations. I felt soooooooooooo bad for you. Thank you, Chris! No. I believe tipping is a personal matter. It’s no one’s business if you tip or how much you tip. It’s your money, do whatever you want with it 👍
@@TravelWithBen121 I so agree with you regarding tipping... when it is automatically added... then it is not a tip... its just another sneaky fee. Tipping which is based upon service... encourages good service!

Ben is this a repositioning cruise? I have just had a look at Norwegian cruise lines and they don't have the 13 day Southampton to New York trip, but they do have a New York to Bermuda cruise.
Where does the ship head out to? Could you take it back to the UK for the same price? I’d far rather take 2 cruises than squeeze into cattle class on a jet!
You ask if we would be interested in traveling alone as you just have. Speaking for myself, if I could travel on a ship for $39 per day, I would be doing it 9 months a year! Have a friend get another single room and combined it would be $78 for the two of us!? Sign me up!
with thousands of people...surely there must be a handful that can't do anything in a timely manner and won't be packed by the deadline...i wonder what the ship can do? they can't manhandle guests, right? toss them out like a bouncer at a bar would? 🙂
