In 1987 she released Brazilian Romance, her last album. This concert shows her utter mastery of the American songbook and her love of Brazilian ballads. Thanks for sharing. Her old comment that she came on stage looking like Lena Horne and left looking like Sarah Vaughan never got old. She was the Divine One.
So glad this performance was captured...to have been in this audience...would be a dream come true.... such an amazing display of talent ...every note brimming with feeling and emotion. ❣
Thanks sooo very much for sharing. Great seeing comments from someone who knew her personally.Always wished I could have met her in person. Words will never be able to describe how beautiful and amazing she was as a person and singer.
@@monicabella7894 Billie was more expressive and she had more feeling but was uncreative about her vocal range and vocal abilities. Sarah and Dinah were much more creative and both had a much broader vocal range. Even though Holliday had a better musical repertoire than Vaughan.

( Sarah” can make me = smile, laugh, & sing , but most of All’ from an artist - she can unashamedly make me CRY ! With her performance etc . Never to be forgotten .
what a masterful singer! An amazing sense of humor! The Lena Horne story had me laughing for five minutes. I love how she told the engineer to leave the mic settings alone. Been there done that! I never heard her live but I'm so glad we have this concert. Wow.
The most imaginative, accomplished and inehaustible musical mind with a voice to match it--the only voice seemingly immune to the effects of illenss, bad habits and aging. Hearing her 1985 Paris Concert ("In the City of Lights") was a revelation about her power and depth as America's true prima donna, offering the most definitive interpretations of jazz and American pop standards when accompanied by a pianist with a talent matching hers (the unheralded Frank Collett, who made his piano Sarah's "second brain"--following and often provoking her every thought and scintilla of feeling during performances demonstraing the meaning of the word "symbiosis." (Drummer Harold Jones is missing--had he gone on with Tony Bennett by this time?)
@ 18:12 "Comecar de Novo" is the Ivan Lins/Victor Martins classic "The Island". Her third and last studio album of Brazilian music was produced by Sergio Mendes. This rendition of " Send in The Clouns" epitomizes her technical vocal ability. It was truly a blessing when God said "let there be Sarah Vaughan.......!"
How I love this song 🎵 ❤ 😍 💕 💜 ♥ so, so beautiful 😍 ❤ 💕, i don't believe I have heard this before. Thank you, so very Much. The words Are Spectacular and how captivating
I recall my Mum played Sarah Vaughn when my ears, cortex developing. Her kindness & spirit were ignited upon suggestion. TH-cam lit up shop. Nice one. 🙂.
Every young female singer should closely watch an learn from her how to handle a microphone. When she kindly asks the front of house technicians "Put some lows on the microphone, so you don't hear me breath", I just had to laugh, because probably the engineer meant well but being usually drawn to roll of the lows because of technically unaware singers that "eat the mic" and would make pops and all sorts of plosive noises that simply have to be tamed. But Sarah just handles the mic so consciously ALL THE TIME. She was forced to put the mic closer to her mouth in order to let us hear the full spectrum and "body" of her vocals. So she requested the lows to be able to keep the mic away and still retain that beautiful low end. When at the end she tells the sound(wo?)man to just leave the mic now the way it is, and let go of his buttons and "enjoy the show" I just had to LOL and smile. What a great lady!
My father, Larry Gengo represented Sarah and Billy Eckstine throughout the 70's and 80's. I saw them at the Blue Note
Eckstine
Thanks
How FABULOUS!! ❤️🎵⭐️🎉🌹
My absolute favorite singer!
Mine too. I've been a fan of hers for over 50 years.
Did anyone ever tell you you have amazing taste (and super-pretty eyes)!
I listen to Sassy every day. She had the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.
A magnificet vocalist who gave us music that will be forever
Sarah Vaughn to me is the best progressive jazz, soul, R&B singer of all-time and her vocal range is incomparable
sassy's voice is like a warm, yet precious, blanket!
Emiliano Loconsolo her deep contralto voice is indeed like a warm, velvety blanket 🤗

The Sassy Diva Songtress brilliantly transported me to the heavenly hemisphere with her splendid mezzo-soprano impeccable voice and range.
Thats a lovely long way .
Sassy singing "Here's the Rainy Day" is art of the highest and most moving
I never get tired of hearing her sing "Send In The Clowns"...
Her 1987 version is my favorite one
And never will
Of course it's OUR DIVINE ONE TURNING EVERY NOTE AND BREATH INTO GOLD! Plus she looks splendid here for 63!
She is Incomparable
Evgeniy Zolotarev indeed. so many other Contralto vocalists have been inspired by this lady. Diana Krall, Anita Baker, Amy Winehouse, to name a few.
I cried in her arms and Sassy said everything is going to be ok. Sarah Vaughan died two months later. I can still feel her arms around me.
Her presence is here through your comment

I Love Sarah Vaughan. The Greatest Operatic Jazz Singer...!
Akin to Morgana King.
Thank you Sarah for what you gave US, i listen to you everyday
Vastly better tone and control towards the end of her life than most singers have in their prime.
Absolutely. She smoked, drank, did coke. Yet, near the end of her life she still sounded beautiful.
Got that right!
African Contralto Queen!
Every singer is best in their prime & so was she.
