I think it’s more likely the death of Iroh’s son. Keep in mind Iroh was the glorious fire nation general who breached the walls of Ba Sing Se. It wasn’t until he lost his son that had developed empathy and realizes the true cost of war. I’d argue that if he had not lost his son, he probably would’ve won the war with his siege on Ba Sing Se for the fire nation and come back to be the victorious fire lord. He had to experience true loss, both the loss of his son and then the evaporation of his rightful throne, to actually begin the path of enlightenment. Instead of falling into bitterness, he sought to better himself, to actually understand the world and gain enlightenment
I always did wonder about that. Cruel as he was to tell ozai to kill his own son, he was defending iroh, defending his right as the next heir, even though ozai was correct, iroh wasnt having anymore children, we all know it, and he certainly wasnt getting any more invested in the fire nation, but azulon didnt care. He refused to take yet anither thing from iroh. Let alone for his jealous brothers benefit, whilst he insults the man whod just sacrificed a son for their cause. He got the most angry at the fact that ozai called him weak for leaving the war, and thats what got azulon to demand he "learn what its like to lose a son" Theres a LOT to unpack in that one little scene, ESPECIALLY after considering the differences between ozai and iroh.
Azulon was '' just '' a dictator. I don't think he was a good father because he was tyranical even in private matters (we saw it when he forced Ursa to marry Ozai or when he ordered Ozai to kill Zuko). But in the end, he was better than Ozai. Ozai he clearly mentally ill : he has no empathy, enjoys the suffering of others (especially Ursa), loves to play mind games, etc. On top of being a dictator, he is extremely abusive.

In a way Iroh became the best equivalent of what type of father figure in Zuko's life he needed most and did what his own father Ozi could never do for him through teaching him to look inward and understand his destiny is in his hands and everything in his life he needed was what he saw in front of him. Often what we need most is who. Good people giving us good influences we need most.
The one thing that people usually never think about, is that Iroh still never found Liu Ten after passing into the spirit world. Though he likely is at peace with that.
Yeah but when you live forever in the spirit world the decades is just a fraction of time so he has all the time to look. But him knowing the good nature of spirit in the series and how the spirit world while dangerous, can be rewarding and wonderful, probably aren't in a hurry as he knows his son who he has raised are out there having a time of his life. Plus news are bound to reach Lu Ten about the nice old man who makes great tea and they'll be reunited sooner or later.
@@adam-bf8li I don't think Liu Ten had the same level of spiritual awareness that Iroh had. Not counting the people thrown into the fog of the lost, I believe that only people who are in tune with the spirit world are able to cross over as he did. Perhaps if nothing else it is a very perfect copy of everyone's beloved uncle. A new spirit formed by his connection.
Iroh is genuinely my favorite character in the entire series. He reminds me of my grandfather a lot and honestly I wish I could sit down and have a cup of tea with him.
I dont know why, but I genuinley started to tear up and cry, as if Iroh was my uncle and he just died right in front of me. But then hearing that last part about Pai sho not being Zuko's game, made me just bust a gut laughing while crying at thesame time, and that reminded me that 1. Zuko must genuinley suck at Pai sho if Iroh is throwing shade at Zuko with his dying breath. And 2. the fact that he probably wouldnt want anyone to be sad before, during, or after his death. He lived a full life and left his mark on the people he cared about as well as making a genuine difference in the world that he was once led to destroy. Iroh is and always will be one of the best characters, and parental figures, in fiction and that the literal act of this fictional person's passing away affecting us the viewer in a personal way isnt a testament to that statement, then I honestly dont know what would be. Even if Iroh is now a spirit in the spirit world who will never want to return to the material world, He will be missed and I hope he remains happy and content making tea and friends and giving out advice over a game of Pai sho.
When Iroh said he somewhat felt responsible for how Ozai turned out it really hurt but also it made me want to know more about those two. I wonder how Ozai would’ve been if he and Iroh were raised better and together, building a bond like Aang and Zuko. But.. there’s no turning back to the past now
"Looking back instead of forward is a fool's game." as someone who's gone through some depressive state it's because of going through my past and the what ifs so I'll try to remember this.
Iroh didn’t really die though. The spirit world is the realm of the spirits, like tiny gods, not the dead people. Rava kinda confirms this by telling Wan that she will follow him through all his lives, which suggests that everyone reincarnates and not just the Avatar. Iroh transcended the physical world through force of will to live in the spirit world, making him a sort of spirit, not just a dead person
I don’t think Sozin was jealous of Roku. If so he would not have gone forward to tell Roku his plan of world domination. Sozin just had a different vision for the fire nation and he genuinely went to help Roku but then he did realize the only way for his vision to go forth was to let roku die as well as take out the air nomads.
The one part of Iroh’s life that is never talked about is his time with his wife, the woman the bore his son Lu Ten. There is absolutely no mention of who she was, or her time with Iroh. WHO IS SHE?
One scene about Iroh that I can’t forget is when he heated his tea with bending in public, and Zuko screwed him for it. I always wondered why the writers made someone as wise and intelligent as him do that. While he may have been goofy and eccentric, I never thought that he would have been that stupid. Then I realised, he too is human, one who makes mistakes and slip ups, one who in his greed for a sip of delicious hot tea had a moment of weakness and accidentally almost made a grave mistake. Something we can all relate to, and if he can be like us, then we too could aspire to be like him

I wonder how Zuko found Iroh after he passed. Was he at Iroh's bedside with all the family too as he prepared to transition? Very interesting tidbits that we'll hopefully get answers to before our time comes.
Thanks for the video. Loved Watching the Avatar back in the days and Iroh have always been my favorite character. Very sad that the original voice actor for Iroh died in real life. He had a very unique voice and calmness.
This reminds me of the moment in the manga called Yona of the Dawn where she comes across journals/letters of her father and her cousin's mother which hold info like how they met their future partner, how they drifter apart from one another, how they knew the truth about certain person death etc...which after reading them changed Yona even more as a person but lucky for the better.
I was kind of late getting into Last Airbender...thought it being more of a kid's show at first. Grew on me & enjoyed Iroh. If he & Davos Seaworth (my favorite from GoT) ever crossed paths they would get along great. Both are wise beyond their years...
@@milo_7294 It originally aired on Nickelodeon IIRC. Intent I suppose was sold as being for kids since most of the characters are portrayed as teens but include enough other stuff to appeal to older crowds. Said nuances being meant to be caught by them.
I love Iroh so much. He really Love Zuko man. Him and Luten really loved Zuko. Luten Sending him back gifts while on the front line. I'm pretty sure he expected to come back home to his little cousin. "Loving uncertainty" is something a man must teach his sons
Iroh is the man we should all strive to become. Wise, able to enjoy the small things in life, compassionate, humble, dedicated bettering yourself and those close to you and knowing when to step in and when to let things play out. I hope I can be a bit of all of those things when raising our daughter.
Honestly when you were reading the last passage from Iroh’s book. I could imagine a grieving Zuko reading with tears in his eyes and a reinsured smile on his face.
Sometimes, the battles are bigger than the war. Maybe, that’s the irony- the battles- not the whole fight. A war is a battle of many tales. To win, you have to go through the journey of self. Uncle Iroh got me thinking frfr 🥲🪷
I really liked this episode! I'd say the only thing, as I saw it, is that Sozu wasn't necessairly "jealous" of avatar Roku's power but that he didn't buy into his tyranical plans for domination. He would've loved for them to both take over because he saw him as his brother. Maybe in his later years he did become somehwat envious, but he wasn't jealous of the power he was annoyed he couldn't get his way. could just be me tho
The thought of zuko dealing with irohs death made me tear up and j don’t want to get into everything itoh and zuko did for eachother and their bond otherwise I will cry but iroh spent his last days thinking and hoping to help beloved nephew/son

" You're only ready to hear what you are ready to hear when you are ready to hear it. " Thanks, Iroh. I totally didnt spasm out and have like, 7 seizures and 4 strokes while reading that.
I know a lot of people find Ozai to be the blandest part of the Avatar series (although not necessarily bad), but I honestly believe that the simplest answer to his character is of being a narcissist and a psychopath. I don't mean those as an insult, I mean the textbook definition of those mental illnesses. Lack of emotional empathy or sympathy, violent social behaviors, inflated self-worth and sense of ego, "I have all the power in the world!" And as a man like that who was given the throne as firelord with the abilities of Sozin's comet, it's no wonder he was such a bastard that wanted to rule/destroy the world.
I just see it as showing that many of the worst people are not uniquely smart or interesting or tragic, they're just pathetic, bland people who happened to get ahold of a huge power and used it for themselves. Unlike Azula, Ozai couldn't defend himself without bending and he wasn't that good even with the comet (I mean, he wasn't super inventive or used complex techniques unlike Iroh or Azula, most of his moves are pretty basic except flying around). His lineage was the only notable thing about him, just like in our world
In the words of 1 musician named Divide Music, Iroh has the best wisdom... "You can't always see the light at the end of the tunnel... But if you keep moving, better are to follow." I forget the rest, but it's very beautiful IMO.
It's kind of weird that I've seen a lot of stuff but it's a cartoon character that literally has me Crying this goes to show that avatar is more than just a kid show

Thanks for the video. Loved Watching the Avatar back in the days and Iroh have always been my favorite character. Very sad that the original voice actor for Iroh died in real life. He had a very unique voice and calmness.
I can imagine iroh reading the letters while he’s writing them.
I've never cried like that.🥺 I think that i love Iroh and Zuko more than before.🥺
technically he did not die, he decided to send his spirit to the spirit world willingly
Uncle Iroh is that wise old man we all love.
I wish iroh was my uncle ❤
If you do not have a uncle Iroh in your life, be the uncle Iroh in other peoples life
Iroh is your Uncle Iroh, he is my Uncle Iroh, he is the world's Uncle Iroh 💪😤
@@glowingwaterr2122Damn did you just make that up
Iroh really did finish his book with a roast
This reminds me of the moment in the manga called Yona of the Dawn where she comes across journals/letters of her father and her cousin's mother which hold info like how they met their future partner, how they drifter apart from one another, how they knew the truth about certain person death etc...which after reading them changed Yona even more as a person but lucky for the better.
Did you just forgot the word "aunt"?
We shall always look up to iroh's wisdom
Headcanon: *Zuko requested Little Soldier Boy during Iroh's funeral*
nah thats canon
Rip mako and rip iroh
I was kind of late getting into Last Airbender...thought it being more of a kid's show at first. Grew on me & enjoyed Iroh. If he & Davos Seaworth (my favorite from GoT) ever crossed paths they would get along great. Both are wise beyond their years...
Not really a kid's show, though... So many nuances 👀
I was so glad when they showed Iroh in the Spirit world in Legend of Korra!
Uncle Iroh was one of the best characters :))
Iroh never really died, he became a guide, for when you are truly lost can you find your true self, but sometimes a guide is needed.
I miss Iroh so much
Iroh is the man we should all strive to become. Wise, able to enjoy the small things in life, compassionate, humble, dedicated bettering yourself and those close to you and knowing when to step in and when to let things play out.
I hope I can be a bit of all of those things when raising our daughter.
So heartbreaking. I think we all need someone like Uncle Iroh in our lives. The man keep to astound me with his hard-earned wisdom.
This man was supposed to be Fire Lord, and he did his treacherous brother one better by raising his son to be worthy of taking his place.
Damn that ending got me in my feels
I cried i literally cried
i love iroh i consider him to be like grandfather to me sense both of mine died may they rest in peace
This show is more than a show mehn and will forever be!
Tbh lroh is one of the best characters ever created long live the goat
Amazing video
The thought of zuko dealing with irohs death made me tear up and j don’t want to get into everything itoh and zuko did for eachother and their bond otherwise I will cry but iroh spent his last days thinking and hoping to help beloved nephew/son
The fact that you put the parasite theme song in the back ground, I love you for it. Great channel.
Leves from the vine falling so slow like fragile tiny shells drifting in the foam little soldier boy come marching home brave soldier boy comes marching home!!!!
damm that opening song, its "next to you" from the anime "parasyte". amazing song, I used to listen to it a lot a while back. brings back memories.
General Iroh is my favorite character.
"In the darkest times Hope is something you give yourself it is the true meaning of inner strength"
This man breaks my heart each time😭😭😭😭
" You're only ready to hear what you are ready to hear when you are ready to hear it. "
Thanks, Iroh. I totally didnt spasm out and have like, 7 seizures and 4 strokes while reading that.
We all need either an Uncle Iroh or an Uncle Phil
I LOVE UNCLE IROH!!! 😭
I wish Iroh could meet his brother at the end and see his brother's reactions.
Wow, the whole thing was so touching until he dropped that joke about Pai Sho. Gotta love Iroh.
Every scene with him in it is wholesome
the parasyte music in the background is just 👌👌👌
"life sometimes is like a dark tunnel you can always see the light at the end but if you keep going forward you will end up in a better place"
*Fire nation be like* : before we conquer the other nations using a comet, we’d like to thank our sponsor, raid shadow legends!
Iroh still lives in the spirit world and we saw him in TLOK so im glad.
I thought Iroh reached Spiritual Enlightenment and shed his mortal form and ascended to the spirit realm. That isn't death.
His physical body stopped being here and he ascended to the spirit world that's basically death
I'm going to cry zuko's grandfather is someone I wish I could have had in my life
I know a lot of people find Ozai to be the blandest part of the Avatar series (although not necessarily bad), but I honestly believe that the simplest answer to his character is of being a narcissist and a psychopath.
People think Ozai is bland?
Jedud that was the longest ad I have ever wqtched
History is written by the winners, but it is read by the survivors.
Iroh needs his own series Mann
I had an AD for Evony before the video. When he said that he was sponsored by a game, I almost died. Good thing it was Raid.
Also in Iroh's voice:
P.P.S. And zuko, don't forget to boil water once every year! I don't know if they even have tea in the spirit world.
It's kind of weird that I've seen a lot of stuff but it's a cartoon character that literally has me Crying this goes to show that avatar is more than just a kid show
That last page made me cry
The title of this video makes it sound as if Iroh died, he specifically evaded death and became immortal.
I would pay actual money to see a fight between uncle Iroh and Ozai😂😂😂
Irohs dying words were roasting Zuko for being ass at Pai Sho, that is some savagery
Brothers become enemies, Enemies become brothers.
Next video will be your 100th video. I’ve been subbed since your second video
Iroh is the best uncle and his death is very sade😢
"If you look for the light you will often find it but if you look for the dark that will be the only thing you see"
The P.S. was the kick needed to get through the tears! 😁
