Simply demonizing his behaviors and choices, while not explicitly wrong, as accountability is vital, isn't helpful either. He may have chosen to, but he chose for a *reason,* and willpower and discipline is long since proven to not be enough to stop people from making those choices. Anyone, everyone even, will do the same things when put in the same circumstances, exposed to the same substances and negative coping mechanisms, with the same lack of support.

I have all the respect in the world for this guy. Men like him are often expected to be strong, stoic, and self-sufficient, making it difficult to acknowledge their struggles and ask for help. From the original video: this guy is a former US Navy SEAL who is being treated for severe PTSD. The stress level of special operations is enormous, and having to switch “ON” at a moment’s notice takes a real toll on one’s mental health. This is why illicit drug use is so rampant among special operators. We really need to do better for our veterans, instead of just putting them out in the streets like this.
How about just not doing drugs? Plenty of other seals that do not behave like this. This is coming from a marine that did 3 tours in mid 2000s. Lock this guy up before he kills someone.

I work as a first responder. The moments of clarity he had where he apologized before going right back to raging are actually pretty normal. It's like there's a voice inside that knows there's something wrong and they need help that just barely manages to break through sometimes.

Im a corrections officer, and I pride myself in being able to nuture that voice in people having episodes, and get them to do the right thing, instead of assaulting someone or destroying things, and getting more time to their sentance.
Most people, no matter how far gone, do on some level just want to do right. even if they may not know what "right" is. Theyre trying to do what their best conception of good is.
Give em a little wisdom, compassion and patience, tell them what their positive options are, and connect with them (within reason) and you usually can make sure situations like this go well, even if it can be time consuming and annoying. its worth it for a human spirit.

He has had some problems since coming home, I don't know about the steroids but his brother says he does no hard drugs or achohal either but does smoke weed.

I am a vet with 2 TBIs and i have similar issues as this guy. It's not easy to deal with and can happen at any moment. I don't cause trouble abymore but i do have my days. I turned to nature and hiking long distance. Being alone in the woods with God helps work through things. Ill never be 100% again. Ive been drug free for over 13 years but my family treats me like I am a drug addict and refuse to accept that something is wrong with me. It's hard out here when you're all alone, whether it's of your own doing or not. I wish Chris the best and I hope he works through all of this.
