I would pay to watch this documentary than many of high budget Bollywood films. Great work camera crews and people behind this. Grand salute to the adoptive parents.
Thanks for your kind words - you're more than welcome to support the filmmakers by subscribing, renting or purchasing different versions of the film here: vimeo.com/ondemand/theonlysonthefilm or watch for free here on TH-cam, up to you :-)
Thank you for a very interesting & beautiful documentary. The remoteness of the place is unbelievable yet so stunningly refreshing. My heart goes to Pema & Dolma - the pull of filial love & obligation vs individual’s longing for self determination is heart-wrenching. I hope Pema finds a way to help out his parents without having to sacrifice his dreams & bright future.
This is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. I feel I have been with these lovely , gentle people in their beautiful country sharing their problems and dreams. I hope all their dreams come true, especially the ‘only son’. God bless them all.
Parents are very lucky to have a son like Pema I am very much overwhelmed by his courage in helping his sisters to get education and fulfill his dreams
This is a very nice documentary. Yes, this is very true. Usually in traditional provinces, there were really arranged marriages like this. Most of educated men married an illiterate women. This is so devastating marrying someone u don't love for the sake of tradition. The situation of Pema is so hard. It breaks his heart between parents and his dreams. I admire him so much for taking his dreams to the highest level, not only for himself but for his siblings as well. Lucky for the girl that he will choose to marry. ❤💜🧡
A truly remarkable documentary which I happened to come across on a day like today. It has made me appreciate the little things that I already have in my life, so meaningful. My heart goes out to the parents and also to great potentials that lies ahead for the Pema and his sisters. Pema strikes me as a responsible, wise and loving young man, way beyond his years. I wish everyone in this documentary a blessed life and may all their dreams come true.
First time i watching in sight of Nepal. A young man who has a strong ambition in his life. Fighting against his parents. They have a different way to fight for their own life. Love to see them together..
The country side/village was beautiful. However the children didn't really grow up there, and are now use to a more modern way of life. The older sibling (Son and daughter), have international exposure. ......so it will be very hard to return to this simple primative village life. The culture they have come from makes them now carry a burden of guilt and shame for wanting a different life journey. Thank you for sharing your story with us.
Awesome doc. Amazing creative production team. The kids are living far more harder than us in Borneo. The distance, time and all the hardships going back home are very challenging. Salute ! Watching in 2021 some 3 years later, pray that the kids and their parents are doing well now. I am taught to be thankful with life in Borneo.
I Sincerely hope that your future life will be successful and support your family back home young man, your are very sensible and a very handsome indeed, Wishing you all a very best 🙏❤
Its a very inspiring story...but maybe you need to help your family back in the village financially...just follow your heart on what to do in your life, all of you and your younger sisters deserve all the happiness in life.Godbless you all.
Thank you for the glimpse inside their lives.. How lucky are some and how fortunate are others.. I wonder if many western kids could identify at all with this video... I hope they are all well and if you start a crowdfund I will be the first to send to this family.. Love and respect!!
Wow, a great story! The dilemma of choosing between parent’s wishes and personal needs was heartbreaking. I hope all the children are doing well. Pema is very talented, intelligent, and interesting. Able to speak three languages; now maybe four adding Dutch!
If you gave me a small piece of your land to build a home and a small garden, I'd come help you. I don't think I'd ever leave there. It's so peaceful and beautiful.
This really breaks my heart especially when they say goodbye to each other and their mother wipe hers tears and so with the father when the kids is already on board but the son made the right decision , so what happened to the kids now and so with their parents because this was taken 3 years ago this is a very interesting story to fallow .
I’ve watched this documentary last night. I feel for the son and his sisters and also with the parents. This documentary is 2 years old, I am wondering what is the latest with the son and his family?

So typical, parents bearing children just so they can take care of them when they are old. Not fair! And that mom is the most selfish person! She gave her kids to others so she won't take care of them, now that she's old, she wants them back so they take care of her! I hope nobody comes back! YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW! KARMA IS A BEECH!

So proud of Pema for the wisdom he carries at such young age and for taking care of his younger sisters like his own children.
