- Ms D Roopa is an IPS officer of year 2000 batch. She is the first Kannadiga woman IPS officer in Karnataka. Having secured all India rank of 43 in Civil service examination, IPS was her natural choice after her long association with the khaki as NCC cadet.
Known to take on bigwigs in power, she gets candid, in this talk, on the challenges faced by bureaucrats in general, with specific instances from her journey till date. She reasons out the illogical fear confounding the bureaucrats which restricts them from acting fearlessly against the mighty and powerful. "No Country can ever truly flourish if it stifles the potential of its women and deprives itself of the contributions of half of it's citizens".

Having secured 43rd rank in UPSC CSE, she had an option to opt for IAS, but she refused as she always aspired to be an IPS officer since her NCC cadet days.
She proved that one need not fear about the corrupted system and its loop holes if he or she is right in what they are doing.

41 transfers in 17 years. It gos without saying how upright officer she is, hats off to the iron lady ips offer never compromised. she was awarded Presidents police Medal twice in 2016 n 17. i think now she is IG Indian Railways in Bangalore. God bless.

I live in the USA living comfortably I must add and I felt very happy to see a woman police officer standing up to the thugs in Karnataka. I foresee that in 20 years she will become one of the most famous public servants in India that political parties would want her to join their parties, which she must do, that is joining politics. I have great respect for Rupaji. It is very tough to crack top exams like IPS/IAS. But, most who manage do it get in to make quick buck and become conduits (and even mentors) for corrupt politicians... They figure & show ways to cheat, rob exchequer, and destroy rule of law. And a few like Rupa try to fight the system within it... So, I have highest regard for those public servants who stay true to the ideals, BUT THEY ARE HARASSED BY THE SYSTEM FOR IT. Such is India.
harko Actually we Indians need to convert Indian Bureacracy to Contractual Bureaucracy where there will be little to no political influence and Contracts can be renewed back only based on performance and public feedback that is based in western and other developed countries.
If western countries were to adopt our politician serving colonial era governance system their countries will collapse in no time.
