The living is not cheap here but mutch less costly than Norway when it comes to food. Diesel is still more expensive in Sweden. Approximately 3-4 kronor more per litre. All grocery shops in Norway pretty much have the same price range. All shops are owned by one of the two food giants, so It's basically a monopoly with barely any competition. That's why it's so expensive. You should avoid buying imported food, such as Nutella (Get nugatti instead) and heinz beans for example (heinz is 2,5£ while the own brand is less than 1£). So it's much cheaper going for their own brand. You could also dumpster dive if you're in a remote area where their trash bins are easily accessible. It's usually very good stuff that's still perfect to eat.
That's so crap, food should be monopolised. We don't usually buy too much branded imported stuff but Nutella is a must 😂. Beans, I am happy to trade in. We do attempt to dumpster dive in the next video, Norway likes to keep their bins locked 😂

Good film. Looks as though you're a bit early in the season for Norway. Prolonged rain is depressing - I live in North Wales so I do have some experience of it. Great views though! August is usually lovely in Scandinavia but perhaps you will have left by then?
Apparently they are just having a very miserable spring/summer. Even the locals we spoke to were depressed about it 😥. My parents live in wales and I grew up in Shropshire, just next door so I know all about it. Hence why we aren't enjoying the weather here so much as you don't leave to go to worse weather 😂
The west coast of norway is one of the wettest places on earth. When you go south again do it in the east or in sweden. I live in south east norway and we have had 25-28 degrees and mostly sun so far this summer, which has become the new norm. The east has alot of mountains and is extremely lush and green and beautiful (and warm and sunny!). It just get's overshadowed by the fjords.

Great vlog, loving your Norway travels. If it helps fuel has gone up here again too, I paid £1.98/litre for diesel and paid £113 for 57 litres last week, so my Boxer's 90 litre tank would cost nigh on £180!
😭 it’s crazy isn’t it! As if the fuel in the UK is now as expensive as Norway yet our pay is far less. I would be telling work I can’t afford to go in 😆
@@nicroams Well...as Covid has proven many of us can work from home I'm now only going in once a week as there's no benefits to me going in and the round trip now costs £7 in fuel. I know Norway is very expensive but I also their chocolate is worth every penny :-)
In Norway, we only pay a small amount for prescription medicines (long time use medicines). If I buy prescription medicines in other countries, I have to pay full price, and then I get my money back when I get home. A couple of years ago, we were in Denmark. I had forgotten to bring my daughter´s asthma medicine. I went to the pharmacy, and they said I had to pay about 200 Euro for it. Luckally my Danish cousin has the same medicine, so we got it from him. That way I didn´t have to claim the money back when we got home.
That is so good. Sam asked his GP for 3 months worth of meds and they said no. When he rang to explain the cost here they didn’t know if we could claim it back or not when we return. Either way, Sam needed it and when we return to the UK we will see what we can do 🤗. I’m glad you were able to sort your daughters inhaler out 🤗
To bad there is so much rain in the west cost of Norway now. I see that it can be a lot of rain there the next week. It is always raining more on the west side of Norway because the sea. Most of the rain stop when the clouds hit the mountains. Therefor it is not so much rain on the other side of the mountain if you travel east. I live in the middle of South Norway in a place called Flatdal. It is close to a little more famous place called Seljord where it is a lake that have a sea monster like that in Lock Ness in Scotland they say :-) Yesterday it was 28 here. Little cloudy and sunny and 23 warm now. Around here it should not be any rain the next week and 22 the coldest. It is some nice rutes to drive over to the east or sout/east Norway where it is very much different things to discover here in Norway. So if i had been you two, i had travel over to sout norway where it is better weather, not so many many places you need to pay road tax (at least if you dont drive the main highways) and no expensive ferries. Take a search over east and south norway and you will find many things to look at.
Thank you for the tips, the lake near you sounds magical! This vlog is 2 weeks behind our travels so all shall be revealed if we went more inland or just put up with the rain soon though 😄.
Norwegian people get the medisin for free - if we need them. You must be in the Norwegian National Health Service (like in UK). All norwegian are there. We pay max for all medical help in a year something like 2600 NOK - after that - everything free.
You should have done some research on what to look for in the supermarkets! You bought all the things that are expensive, basically imported stuff. It is expensive here, but there are ways of using less!
I guess we just picked food we knew how to cook 😊. We also knew it was pricier in Norway vs the UK, we were just sharing prices for others to know what a typical shop could look like 😊
Hey guys just started watching and I see your pain with the curtains x I made some that attach to the inside of windows that may help x the how to is on my channel xx hope it helps xx
Tunnels are the most boring thing. Even if its the longest in the world. :) If you had continued the road to the viewpoint you could avoid the tunnel and passing over. That road is absolutely stunning. I always do that when driving that direction.
I question the logic of not filling up the entire tank. Considering how heavy the car is with everything in it I imagine you only reduce the weight by 3 percent. The difference in price per liter varies alot by gas station, region and time. You only filling up half the tank means you always have to look for fuel and that means you might have to fill up at a place with a higher price. Also consider having half a tank you also risk fuel condensation.
Honestly, I question my logic too sometimes. Simply put, it was just a quick decision we made in the moment and also out of laziness so we didn’t have to get out the van, fill up and pay again 😂
@@nicroams I see 🤣. I clearly don't look at dates on the videos! I was thinking what's going on here... this is a different van and where did this guy appear from 🤣🤣
People are probably healthier there using natural cures rather than pharmaceuticals. They use a lot of saunas which have tons of health benefits. I'm thinking of buying a small sit in one myself.
@@nicroams I also think everything there is expensive due to a poor exchange rate, its probably being fixed to make it expensive for tourists whereas locals probably find things are reasonably priced compared to their income..
Yes, that is true, their minimum wage here is far greater so its all proportionate. They are one of the richest countries in the world, I knew we were going to find it pricey but with it raining for so long you're spending lots and not receiving too much back
That medication will be the same price in any country, that’s how much it costs on a private prescription. It’s only £9.35 when it is on a NHS prescription
Technically it isn't the same cost as we would get it on the NHS 😥 But I appreciate if we didn't have NHS it would be. Anyway, we are just sharing so people can see what happens if they need to collect their prescriptions in Norway 😊
Well, I don't no about Norway being extremes every time I thought there liking it now.....suddenly no there not you were both more changeable than the weather...lol If its not for you nothing going to change that. You said you're going to Germany former East Germany is the least developed super interesting and cheaper than former West Germany,I know people who've been. Wishing the three of you the best!
Nick, you are spot on 😂. In our next episode we apologise for bringing everyone along on our mood swings haha. Personally, Norway is stunning but I have learnt a lot on how I like to travel so yes, it's time to rethink plans 😊 Thank you for the tips on Germany too 🥰
If it is translating correctly, sadly Sam's doctor would not give him any more than 1 month. Sadly the local GP in his area isn't the best so we were just hoping for a reasonable price when on the road.
We didn’t spot any locker facilities which we’d need as we live in our van. I also saw you have to pay custom fees as most use the UK site. I also need to send my tripod back and we are only away until August so there isn’t any point, it’s just easier to wait. But yes, i guess you can use Amazon if you use UK or the German site 🤗
@@nicroams Gotcha😉 - I think the one I use is the German site. I don't think Amazon lockers exists in Norway. Also the duty and import fees here are brutal 😬
17 days of figging rain oh no no if it was not for the scenery I would be saying bye bye Norway, here in Bulgaria 2 months of amazing weather with electrical storms to clear the air, top temp here so far +35C next week +36C - +38C looks like bra sizes 😁 Glyn stop your dirty mind wandering 🤪nothing has changed I was in Norway in the 1970s and it was expensive then but the Norweigen yearly salaries make a UK salary look like peanuts. Good vlog guys even the 100 shades of grey 🤪
Yeee and we had another 10 days rain prediction 😥 I knew Norway was a wet country, but not this wet! I hope we can travel Bulgaria one day, especially if the weather is based on bra sizes 😂. Thanks for tuning in once again and hope you're keeping well. I'd be melting out your way!
10:28, Surprised you don't buy the cheaper brands. Prima is the cheap brand on rema 1000. They have eggs, chocolate spread, and Juice among other things. Not saying you would prefer Prima in every category, but it's throwing away money to never include them(and the cheap brands in other chains)
We buy first choice for alot of stuff, pasta, cookies etc I believe we bought prima cheese too. But also we like to eat what we like to eat so don't want to just eat budget food for 3 months. We share our shops and the prices of everything so people can see the difference and buy a normal foods so we can do a proper comparison 😊
@@nicroams I guess you mean "first price" when you said first choice. Not only eating budget brands is obviously expected, but when you mention the cost of living over and over, I would suspect to see some budget brands when we get to see what you're buying. And You can't do a proper comparison without including the budget brands because Norway is not like other countries when it comes to this. Because of the large percentage budget brands have of the total market, and that the lower prices have to do with removing costs AFTER production, this is considered normal food here. A couple of years ago the cheapest and most expensive coffee in Norway was the same coffee. The difference was no ad budget for the cheaper one.
@@ujmm yes sorry 🤗. We are just sharing our experience, the cost of living is a shock to us but it doesn’t mean we have to buy budget brand everything. We do work so have an income, we just aren’t seeing the same return. I guess this info is more interesting for our UK audience to hear so they can be prepared. Either to live on budget food, which is still double the price as UK food. In my opinion there really is no way for someone from the UK to be able live on the same budget they usually do if here for 3 months. Or to just prepare and suck it the expense 🤗 We also have the same in the UK with branded products being the same as budget product. We are just going to keep buying the food we want to eat and share our experiences so people can do as they wish with the info 🤗.
@@nicroams I understand. If you're wondering, the local median purchasing power is quite similar in Norway to in the UK. The worst possible monthly net salary you can have in Norway is around 1800GBP and the median is around 3300GBP. Norway has the second-highest salaries in Europe, only beaten by Switzerland(which is much more expensive than Norway again). So unfortunately that salary difference hits you hard.
Hello :-) I really enjoy your videos, nice to hear your views on everything you meet when travelling in our country. But... regarding the weather...: "...can`t even go for a walk, cause it rains"... Are you serious! You must be joking!? Nothing dangerous about rain... I`m sorry that you experience the costs of living are so expensive here. But I hope you can learn to enjoy the nature and culture even if the sun isn't shining. Especially if travelling the western coast. Just expect being wet. Rain. Wind. A bit cold (Just like the UK?). Just put on a rain coat and enjoy. Makes life much better ;-) And keep your dog in a leash at all times, please. Even if there are no people around. This rule is for the sake of wild animals. If you`re tired of the wet and cold, you should consider travelling to the southeastern part of the country. Vestfold, Telemark, Østfold, we usually have more sun than the west coast/northern parts. And the nature here is stunning as well. (....But the cost are still expensive). Enjoy your trip, drive safe an give a hug to your cute dog!
I’m sorry you took that statement so seriously, it was more of an exaggeration 😂, I’m sure you can see from our vlogs we have been there a month and have been going outside. But it’s never fun going out in the rain, for us anyway, let alone having to do it for 17 days straight. No one wants to go on a small walk and get back to a van soaking wet every day 😄 And thank you for the tip on the South East and tuning in 🤗
@@maritmiskovlarsen2025 it’s different it youre traveling in a van, it you’re soaking every time you come in it gets messy and wet inside too and it’s just not fun. People are different and just because you don’t mind constant rain it’s okay for them to not like it
Norway looks really nice ...but would I go there ....No way ...unless I won the lottery ....140 quid for a few pills ....that's absolutely bonkers ....
We only pay £ 300 then the medicine is free for the rest of the year. So is actually quite cheap. But why do you stay in Odda Norway's ugliest place. But yes food, nicotine and alcohol are very expensive here
Yurpp! I guess that's why we love travelling, to get away from the miserable weather 😂 Although, when this was filmed (2 weeks ago) I believe England had a heat wave, typical right!
You’ve hit the nail on the head yourself here 😆 we are from the UK so why would we want to travel somewhere with worse weather. Of course we knew Norway was wetter but we went in June and planned to stay until mid August to have their dryer months. But they had a very very wet June, even the locals were complaining 😂
I will talk about prices and share some experiences. As someone has told you, Rema 1000 can be the cheapest food chain overall. But that does not mean you should just blindly go in and pick anything and expect it to be cheap. You have to evaluate all the items you see and look at the kg/liter price. All chains have their own cheap brands/nobrand. Some are skeptical of these, but it's most often due to an unfounded mental barrier. Kiwi, Spar, Joker and Meny have "First Price" and "Eldorado". All the chains under the Coop umbrella have "X-tra". Rema 1000 have "Prima". One thing foreigners miss out on is membership rates, which I think is impossible or challenging for foreigners to take advantage of. So, be aware if you see; "medlemspris" that means membersprice, that is not for you. For example, all chains have membership agreements where everything in the fruit and vegetable department has a 10% to 15% discount. Kiwi is by far the best in this competition. They have a 15% discount on already the lowest fruit and vegetable prices. This means that even for those who are not members, you get the cheapest and best quality of fruit and vegetables at Kiwi, as the goods do not stay on the shelves for long and are therefore fresher. "Meny" is considered more like a premium chain with perhaps overall the most expensive price. But they are also masters at luring offers that you can cynically take advantage of. Most "Meny" stores often have giveaway prices on yesterday's premium bakery goods and products from fresh food counter. For example, premium bread with an original price of 50kr reduced to 15 kr. When it comes to fuel, it has become more confusing. In the past, it was always cheapest on Sundays and Monday mornings. But now the times seem to vary greatly. I Belive it is cheapest just before the stations get scheduled refilling. Prices can vary by as much as NOK 5 per liter these days. The pumping stations without an associated kiosk such as Uno-X or Automat1 are usually up to NOK 1 cheaper than the neighboring pump with a kiosk. Apps that you should consider trying are "eTilbudsavis", "Too Good To Go" and "Drivstoffappen".
If you like strawberries, there is no better strawberries than Norwegian strawberries in the whole world. That is because of the latitude and Gulfstream with temperate climate with low sunlight almost 24 hour during June that makes them grow slowly and that gives them an intense flavour and red color. Buy them by the road, as they are mostly farm-fresh. In season from June through July. Expensive, probably yes, but worth it.
We did get lured in to buying some and every penny was worth it 😂. It was from a store though, but the smell was filling the room so couldn’t not buy them 🥰
It's safe to say our mood swings are worse than the weather this episode 😂 What do you think we should do... stay in Norway or leave?

It is some nice rutes to drive over to the east or sout/east Norway where it is very much different things to discover here in Norway. So if i had been you two, i had travel over to sout norway where it is better weather, not so many many places you need to pay road tax (at least if you dont drive the main highways) and no expensive ferries. Take a search over east and south norway and you will find many things to look at.
Thank you for the tips, the lake near you sounds magical! This vlog is 2 weeks behind our travels so all shall be revealed if we went more inland or just put up with the rain soon though 😄.
just wait until you come over to northern norway then it is sunny all day right now
Norwegian people get the medisin for free - if we need them. You must be in the Norwegian National Health Service (like in UK). All norwegian are there. We pay max for all medical help in a year something like 2600 NOK - after that - everything free.
Same in Denmark. 🙂☀️❤
Great upload xx sorry it’s been a bit miserable for you but I am enjoying your new adventures xx

Tunnels are the most boring thing. Even if its the longest in the world. :) If you had continued the road to the viewpoint you could avoid the tunnel and passing over. That road is absolutely stunning. I always do that when driving that direction.
Head towards the sun in another country- I would!!
Righttt! You only get 1 summer so why waste it in the rain 😄
@@nicroams ozora festival in on in Hungary at end of month
I question the logic of not filling up the entire tank. Considering how heavy the car is with everything in it I imagine you only reduce the weight by 3 percent. The difference in price per liter varies alot by gas station, region and time. You only filling up half the tank means you always have to look for fuel and that means you might have to fill up at a place with a higher price. Also consider having half a tank you also risk fuel condensation.
Honestly, I question my logic too sometimes. Simply put, it was just a quick decision we made in the moment and also out of laziness so we didn’t have to get out the van, fill up and pay again 😂
@@nicroams And also concider that diesel is not as heavy you might think. 100 liters of diesel weighs around 80kg only
What did you do with your little vivaro van?
Hey, I sold it about 9 months ago and moved in to this van a year ago 😄
@@nicroams I see 🤣. I clearly don't look at dates on the videos! I was thinking what's going on here... this is a different van and where did this guy appear from 🤣🤣
People are probably healthier there using natural cures rather than pharmaceuticals. They use a lot of saunas which have tons of health benefits. I'm thinking of buying a small sit in one myself.
The suana was amazing and when I get land one day, it will be the first thing I build 😂 do it!
@@nicroams I also think everything there is expensive due to a poor exchange rate, its probably being fixed to make it expensive for tourists whereas locals probably find things are reasonably priced compared to their income..
Yes, that is true, their minimum wage here is far greater so its all proportionate. They are one of the richest countries in the world, I knew we were going to find it pricey but with it raining for so long you're spending lots and not receiving too much back
@@jetsetjourneysofficial Why would we want to make it expensive for tourists? Sauna is more a Finland thing than a Norway thing by the way.
@@mimosa7070 it is your government doing it by manipulation of the exchange rates
Diesel is £1.99 to £2.04 a litre in the UK now.
Aghhhh! So much has changed since we left! I have heard it will reach £2.20 by the end of the year 😭😷
@@nicroams Sadly I can see it being closer to £2.50 if things carry on.
@@drewhodge3820 ouch! 😫
❤🔥
I heard that fuel in UK..atm is £1.99 🤷♀️
Me too! It’s going up and up by the second 😫
What did they charge you for the Sauna?
The prices are all on the website 🤗 there are different lengths and group sizes
Well, I don't no about Norway being extremes every time I thought there liking it now.....suddenly no there not you were both more changeable than the weather...lol If its not for you nothing going to change that. You said you're going to Germany former East Germany is the least developed super interesting and cheaper than former West Germany,I know people who've been.
Wishing the three of you the best!
Nick, you are spot on 😂. In our next episode we apologise for bringing everyone along on our mood swings haha. Personally, Norway is stunning but I have learnt a lot on how I like to travel so yes, it's time to rethink plans 😊 Thank you for the tips on Germany too 🥰
Onyx is my spirit animal 😂
He should be everyone's spirit animal 🥰 but I'm very bias!
If you gi abroad you can compete up to 6 months of mesmds from dr i just got 5 months
If it is translating correctly, sadly Sam's doctor would not give him any more than 1 month. Sadly the local GP in his area isn't the best so we were just hoping for a reasonable price when on the road.
What makes you think we don't have Amazon in Norway? - I order things off Amazon here in Norway all the time
We didn’t spot any locker facilities which we’d need as we live in our van.
Or to just prepare and suck it the expense 🤗
We also have the same in the UK with branded products being the same as budget product.
Better to go to Sweden, less rain, cheaper, cheaper medical drugs. Win win
No one wants to go on a small walk and get back to a van soaking wet every day 😄
And thank you for the tip on the South East and tuning in 🤗
Hi hi hi, oh, I thought he really looked so serious... and 17 days of rain is not very long time... 😉 I'm glad you enjoy all of it.
Regarding taking your dog outdoors - you’re breaking the law if you don’t keep it on a leash. Only farm dogs are exempt.
Yes, we have heard. We don’t have Onyx off lead in this video 😄
We only pay £ 300 then the medicine is free for the rest of the year. So is actually quite cheap. But why do you stay in Odda Norway's ugliest place. But yes food, nicotine and alcohol are very expensive here
You need a prescription for your pills. See a doctor to get the presciption and you are all set
We had one, that’s why we were able to buy them 🤗 it’s just we don’t get NHS prices of course hence the expense of them 😫
alot of ppl are struggeling with money
I can only imagine, cost of living has gone crazy high and salary/ interest rates don't match it. It's been tough for many, I'm sure 😥
Englishmen who can not stand rain and cold ...
Yurpp! I guess that's why we love travelling, to get away from the miserable weather 😂 Although, when this was filmed (2 weeks ago) I believe England had a heat wave, typical right!
@@nicroams ye that and to get away from the bureaucracy of England .Scotland is a lot better on this as they allow wild camping and other things
you are form UK it dose nothing else than rain so what gives about the weather talk
