    What a fascinating education about something I had no knowledge of. It makes perfect sense (if I may say so). Many thanks.

      @@damienk2372 Thank YOU, sir. I look forward to more, "educational" videos; as well as, of course, to anything else on offer! Very best wishes, Roger.

    I'm in the process of building an EQ platform for my Dob right now. Thanks for the explanation, I'm shopping for planetary equipment in the next couple months. I have some time, planet season in Texas is still a ways off.

      Hi Chris,
      The EQ platform is a wonderful bit of gear and changed my imaging over night. Let me know when you look to buy your gear and I will help you with a couple of recommendations for your scope combo if you are unsure👍

      Thanks so much Christiaan.
      I will look into it 👌I did have some issues with the video when I put it together for some reason even though the settings were exactly the same as all my other videos. I had to render it in the TH-cam preset (to fix it) in DaVinci resolve instead of my custom settings. Obviously this did not work as it sounded ok on my end.

      Ivan they are a very good piece of gear, if you are doing any form of planetary imaging they are essential.
      Bit tricky to get your head around to start but very simple and effective bit of gear. Combined with a barlow they work extremely well👌

    nice explanation!
    I try to shoot pretty close to zenith to do away with mostly light pollution and other crap 😅
    as you say ... makes sense to use ADC for really long FL when shooting pretty low ... C11 is fairly long FL but trees ....
    who knows maybe next year I'll find some budget for another mount and hopefully a cooled camera... 😂

    Those expensive ones are for DSO. I have terrible atmospheric desperation on my SCT.

      Hi thanks for the comment.
      Even the 4900 euro one is sold as a planetary ADC but it has a 28mm of aperture which is much more than usual but still not enough for an APS-c sensor camera. The others are all less than 17mm of aperture and planetary focussed as well. I'd hate to see what one would cost with a 45+mm of aperture haha

      @@damienk2372 Don’t need APC sensor. This awful dispersion of SCT is obvious on bright stars and planetary nebulae. For such objects, 533 sensor is good enough.
      I also surprised that color splitting happens on Newtons. I always thought scopes should have glass to get dispersions.

    • @damienk2372
      @damienk2372  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @anata5127
      Atmospheric dispersion as the name suggests has nothing to do with the scope type and in certain scenarios will effect all scopes exactly the same.
      Some scopes with glass elements contribute to the dispersion as the colours from the light entering are further seperated due the glass elements being a poorer quality and design due to a price point needing to be targeted.

      @@damienk2372 Interesting. I have Tak Epsilon 130D. Unlike SCT (by the way Edge SCT), Tak never shows dispersion, even shooting the same target from the same location.

    • @damienk2372
      @damienk2372  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You focal length is way to small at around 400mm to show any significant dispersion. I am guessing the focal length on the SCT is longer than that, as well glass that is not helping your situation 👍

    Does it make sense to have one for visual only observing? Sends like it would

    • @damienk2372
      @damienk2372  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi Gary,
      100% it does if you are looking at bright objects quite low down. I don't believe many do it but that doesn't mean it won't be a worthy addition. Just check on how much focus travel you have, keep in mind you could use a longer ep and a barlow to make sure to push that focus point out.
      All the best

      Hi mate,
      That is a shame that you are not getting good results here. What brand is the ADC? How low in the sky is your target?.
      Do me a favour and rotate the ADC 180 degrees from what you are doing now and try again. Some ADCs needed to be aligned the opposite direction to the ones I use.
      Let me know how you get on?

      @@damienk2372 my brand is a zwo, and my target was 20 degrees up. I will give it a try though! I’ve hear that some are “lefty’s” and some are “righty’s”

    • @damienk2372
      @damienk2372  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah that's correct, if you're still having trouble split the leavers nearly all the way and twist the ADC in the focuser and watch what happens on the screen regarding the red blue aberration. This will be a massive cock on but even if you loose an entire night due to it you need to stick with it as a correct ADC orientation is absolutely essential to good images and correct focus.
