- Freedom was diagnosed with eye cancer at just three months old, having both eyes removed by the age of five. Now 20, Freedom lives on a farm in the King Country and spends her days hunting, cooking, and driving cars… living up to her name!

I met Freedom and her mum at a blind and low vision assessment week in Auckland about 8 years ago. I’m so glad to hear she’s doing well and still living life to the fullest 🙂

Freedom...you are an amazing young woman...and driving too...which blew me the hell away! I come from a family of seven brothers and a sister, whom like your family, is very supportive and loving in all that we do. Many families who have been devastated by disabling medical and challenging physical obstacles have been "broken." I'm so happy your family bond hasn't let this effect you and all, in keeping the normalcy and LOVE that is FAMILY! So proud of all your accomplishments and goals in life. when i went school in Taupo more than 10 years ago, I actually remembered freedom at Tauhara Primary School, She is a really good person and everyone likes her, She was also in the same class as my Brother Francis, I'm Emilio Smith and i Just thought I'll Comment to say hi and Hopefully you Remember me too(:
I feel terrible. She's a cancer survivor like me, but lost both of her sight in each eye to cancer and can cook a whole meal, etc. I have both sight in my eyes and I can't cook, isn't the best driver, complains about the littlest things in life, etc. Freedom truly is a motivation for me to try harder at things and to stop complaining.

The ending is great. I used to paint and lost touch with it, when she said she lost touch with music but that she'd get back to it one day I really related to that. Stringing that guitar and playing it had so much power to it. Keep going girl, not for anyone else but for you. 💖

Freedom is so lovely. She’d do well with a Seeing Eye Dog/Guide Dog. A dog for Companionship and “eyes” and love. Help her shop in town for those Kinder Eggs! I hope she’s keeping well.
There was a boy in my sixth form tutor group whose name translated as Freedom, and who was known as Free. I still can't remember what his actual name was but he was from Zimbabwe.
When the teacher read out his name in class, he said "it means freedom". The teacher asked him "can we call you freedom?" and he said "Free". When she asked him that I thought "wow, how rude".

I love how the dad lets FREE drive what a trust of each other and there senses. They treat Free like just another family member. They have her helping the farm and have instilled such great skills, worth ethic and strength in her❤️ I wish more people and families acted this way, even if they don’t have a blond family members or anyone disabled.This is how great families stick together🙏🏽❤️. This entire family is adorable, BUT they have very poor health just them breathing I can notice they struggle with it. They need to change their diet to be free :( Freedom is so adorable but SHAME ON THOSE PARENTS !!!! I ALMOST FEEL LIKE SCREAMING AT THEM FOR ABUSING THAT CHILD'S DIET!!!!
They are struggling, but the parents aren't abusing her diet she is eating the way that is normal for her and her family and most likely the folks in her area. I agree that eating better would be best but she is an adult who is choosing to eat in a manner that is preferable to her and her family.

You have no idea the struggle families like this have just to make ends meet all the while bringing up a child with no vision and caring for 5 other kids. Have you ever communicated face to face with Maori? Do you know how they communicate? These breaths that you hear are a very common part of the way they communicate. The father may be "over weight" in comparison to others but I bet he's fitter and stronger than 90% of people.
