Nice job. I have a 97 I bought new. I restored it a few years ago. I like the sonic cleaner for the jug. Going to do that next rebuild. Enjoyed the vids 👍🏼
That's a great job you did on the bike. How did you clean the engine so nicely? I really loved these CR's. Having moved around different countries at the time, I somehow (don't ask me why) bought 3 of these first generation AL CR's when they were new, 1997, 98 & 99. The 1997 & 1998 were very harsh stock, but a super peerless engine. Shortly after I bought it, I revalved the front and rear suspension with the Race Tech Gold valves, which were very amazing. The ride is sorted and not harsh anymore. FYI the 1999 stock bike is not that harsh, Honda revalved the forks, and has changed to rubber mount top clamp, which along with the ProTaper handlebar made it normal. I think you should ride it, and not to sell it (if it's still around anymore).
That’s neat you owned all 3! Yup I still have the bike, ride it occasionally pretty lightly. Have taken it to my local sand track a few times and it’s a blast out there- just makes you work for it a lot more than my more modern YZ250. To clean the engine I just used scotch brite pads by hand along with some alu/mag wheel cleaner spray you can find at your local hardware store. The cylinder though was vapour blasted when it went out for re-plate, thats how it got to be so pretty.
Great I'm very happy that you've kept it, especially after all that work. It's a solid keeper. And yes your cylinder looks new. I also use Scotch-Brite with WD-40 and Simple Green to clean things up. Of the 3 years, Honda really tried to soften things up (including the power, no power jet) with the 1999, so it becomes more easy to ride. I still prefer the 97-98 motor, it's a brute for real power. If you want your CR to be more compliant and user friendly, then I would truly recommend replacing to the 99 rubberized Mount triple top clamp, and using the RaceTech Gold Valves, you can pretty much tuned your suspension to your exact liking. It just works well. Your YZ250 will always be easy to ride, in comparion. However, I've been trying to research on how to best retrofit available Titanium footpegs to more easily fit this First Gen frame, so far I haven't seen anything legit written about it. I do not want to put on cheap China-made questionable aluminum foot pegs, not much good options available to replace the fragile little original steel toy one.
Looks amazing ! Nice job man ! I’ve got the same machine. Where did you get the seat cover and the rad shroud graphic ? I can’t seem to find them anywhere
The seat cover I got from Ebay, a seller in Argentina actually. I don’t see it on there anymore though unfortunately. And the graphics I had made by Ride Industries here in Canada, but any graphics place I’m sure could do some up for you. Just say you want stock replica graphics and they should be able to go from there
@@turdpike okay, cool. Thanks. I’m in Nova Scotia. I wonder if Ride Industries still has that graphic on file and could ship it to me. I found them online. I’ll give them a call
@@turdpike perfect. Thanks again. I’ll give them a shout I was flying for McMurray Aviation out of Alberta for a few years, up until September. I broke my shoulder on the CR so I’m off work for a bit and returned home to Nova Scotia. We do a lot of flights to Sask. one of my fav spots to go was LLoyd Lake Lodge. I became good friends with the owners and would take my bosses personal plane on my days off to help around the lodge, have more than a few drinks and pull some big fish in
I got them custom made by a place on Vancouver Island here in canuckistan. They are called Ride Industries. I just messaged and asked for 98’ replica shroud graphics. I imagine most custom graphics places can do the exact same if you ask them. In my opinion one of the best looking bikes of all time!
Where did you order the seat cover from? Going to recover a ‘97 CR250 seat and have been looking for a quality replica. Hows the quality of the leather aswell
I got it off of Ebay from some seller in Argentina, aragunde123 is the name. It seems like good quality for the price. The cover fit really tight, and I wish there was extra material that you fold under the seat to staple to. You don’t have a lot of material to work with so it took lots of grunting and swearing. But once its on it’s singin’ tight. Price was right too so I would buy again. Best of luck!
I have a CR 250 97.
I love CR250.

Small world! I’m an AME, spent a few years in La Ronge, and some time up in Stony Rapids. Visited a few camps, never been to that one though
Nive build man. I'm doing the exact same bike right now just curious where you got your graphics from?

have an 98 to restore too, with a blocked top end..
Good luck with it! It’s a fun bike- has a lot of character
Where did you find the graphics?
Had to get them custom made, most graphics shops can replicate OEM sets. A bit pricey but it looks sharp!
