I'm amazed by the implication in your post, ie. that others may have performed it in anything other than 3/4 time, 3/4 is the ONLY time for a waltz (bar a Vienna Waltz which is in 6/8. Anne Murray also makes a great job of waltz song "Can I have This Dance", a sng that has many happy memories for me, having waltzed to it many times with a special lady :-)

I first heard this in 1966 sung by an old lady the emotion in her voice matched Brenda Lee I have never forgotten how it touched me Thank you, ordinary people have great gifts 🤗
An old friend of mine while working in Nashville at Capitol records received the "Snow Bird" album. He took it to his boss and was turned down. My friend then went over his head and this time it was accepted. The rest is history. Thanks Kelso you did the right thing .
Love this song! My girlfriend asked me to meet the guy she planned to marry.....I met him him, and we will celebrate 56 years of marriage this year 2021! I will never forget that first meeting....we were together from that moment on!
@@nuttybar9 I haven’t seen her in years! She married a minister! I remember being told she cried at our wedding! My husband had broken up with her a few weeks before I met him! I am so thankful I met him when I did...the best thing that ever happened to me! I got lucky....
I grew up listening anie song it keeps me reminding of my past everytime I listen it takes me back to those sweet memories with my dad now m grown up , m a musician too but this song keeps ringing to take me back people will die but music never die
I have a 45 record of this version of this song. My mom gave me all of her 45 records and 8-tracks when I was 8 and I listened to these songs until my record player called it quits when I was 20. I had no clue that these songs were older than me, I just loved them and listened over and over. It's a legacy that I've passed on to my kids, they love it as well! Miss the times when it was just about the music, no videos, no CGI, no drama. Just emotion and music...
i know many versions of this song that i like a lot, and i must say this one is a beautiful version, very well played and a great performance by Ann Murray.
Absolutely love her singing this song. I have listened to others sing it but it is not the same. Apologies for last entry and lack of editing. Probably the wee hours
2nd verse So I told him, go and take her With her mind ever changing To the heartland of old Tennessee And when she leaves you, like she's going to For some fancy dancer, you'll remember what you done to me
Anne Murray has one of the most beautiful singers ever. Her voice is so clear. 😀
This is why Anne Murray was Elvis's favorite female singer.
Anne understands that a waltz is 3/4 time. The best version of this oft-covered song!
Beautiful ❤️,
That’s why I like her version...❤️
Music majors knew this immediately! I am the mom of a Music Therapist! Only you pointed it out! 😊

With her unique, deep and strong but mellow voice, somehow Anne Murray's version sounds the best most of the time.
Here I am again, if it wasn't for Anne Murray and her beautiful music, I would be lost!!!

For me the previous versions, including by Pattie Page and Connie Francis sound melancholic; Anne Murray's version sounds charismatic.

Data is so funny. He is not supposed to smile while dancing this song, or he is smiling because he will have a new girl friend as the lyrics says.
Patti Page Patsy Cline, Connie Francis.
Dearly missed.
A really great version and the piano is wonderful as well. Does anyone know who it was?
Sorry no idea but enjoying it too.
