- In this video, I'm building a retro defender arcade machine from MAME. I repurpose as laptop destined for land fill into this is a great project for beginners who want to learn about arcade hardware.
I use MDF and vinyl wrap for an authentic look.
Defender came out in a cocktail table version and this tribute has the buttons exactly where they were on the original machine.
If you're interested in building your own arcade machine, then this is the video for you!

Awesome dude
Thanks 😁
genuinely nice work man - thanks for showing us.
My pleasure!
Kick ass work, man. Well done!
Thanks!
That is absolutely amazing!
Thanks! I am glad you like it.
Genius
A flat top countercade
Or low profile cocktail arcade cabinet
Whatever you call it, pretty sure it's the first of its type I've seen, and I've been mame-ing since the 90s
Seen low profile bartops, Wallcades, uprights, etc, but not a slimmed do own cocktail
Well done sir
What is the model number of the laptop used?
Thanks! The laptop was a Dell Latitude E5420. It seems pretty capaable for the job.
@@JWNZwhat CPU? There were i3 and i5 models
Thanks
Great job. Kind of a shame to reuse such a bad screen, though. Especially for Defender. You can get inky blacks and great colors with a cheap portable OLED display for little money.
Yes, apparently the fix is to tint the glass which was an old school trick. I have gifted the unit on now. I have another old laptop looking for a home so I might try it on that one.
