this series makes me wanna see a video series on building your racing sim covering a few different budgets. I've found it hard to know where I should start, where I can save and where I should invest more money so a series like that would not only be fun to watch but quite helpful.
I do race in vr only for about 3 years, daily for 2-3h. Already 3rd hmd headset. Tried to race with monitors many time as racing in vr is not always easy. But..i always went back to to vr. The immersion is priceless.
Ohhhh, I can't belive you've choose my setup :D The promotional poster I get it in my last job on a Walmart ("Líder" in Chile), when we sold the all the G29/920/923, I asked if I can took with me the promotional poster xD I set my pedals as my own daily car, still have to set the shifter as my car. I have a functional tachometer, but for the video the Arduino fell off and I forgot the order of the wiring xD
I've actually been running solely in VR ever since I tried it on my roommate's setup the first time. So I have no monitor for my rig at all. What I will say is that nothing compares to the immersion of actually sitting in the cockpit of the car and being able to look around freely. When I want to be serious about driving, I will always prefer VR. However, I'm not always trying to be serious when I get on to drive. I drift, so sometimes I just want to get on and get some doors with the boys real quick. For times like that, I would much prefer to have a monitor setup. Having a headset strapped to your head for hours, albeit I have the most comfortable aftermarket head strap that I could find, does get exhausting at times. Then there's also the fact that if you are driving then you are always cutoff from your surroundings. Which, when you have children and pets, can be a bit of a problem. I really wish I had the option to just hop on, and easily drive without much effort while still being able to see and hear things around me. I think it's worth it to own both.
Totally agree with your comment! I would also recommend just a generic 60hz monitor for your type of scenario. Nothing fancy or expensive but good enough to race without the headset on every once in a while.
Appreciate the recommendation. Although, I don't do any racing at all, and when drifting you have to do a lot of looking side to side and sometimes even almost behind you. I could try to get some fine tuned NeckFX, but I know I would still be missing out on some information that I would really rather not give up while being sideways. For this reason, I would have to either go with triples, or an ultra wide. I do have an ultra wide picked out that I like, but it's $1,000. Triples would be just as, or even more expensive. So I'm at a bit of a cross roads at the moment. I don't have the funds to buy anything right now though, so I've got time to watch reviews and make my decision. :)

Great review of others rig. I enjoyed that most was on the lower end using Logitech stuff and the Thrustmaster with the XBOX. But most of all was the creativity for their purpose.
Have had VR for quite some years now. Its a blast. But last year i went from a 24'' monitor standing on a desk to a 32 curved wide screen pretty much in my face. And the comfort from that is just great. If i want the best experience i will go to VR. For an actual race a monitor is my preferred choice. Not as hot and easier on the eyes. But you can get a 2nd hand headset really cheap these days. My PC is 5 years old and was not expensive to begin with. Just a 4 core I5 along with a RX480 8gb. It runs vr fine/okay. If you have a chance to try it out, for sim racing it is insane. Drifting was easier however. Looking into the corners enabled me to get more angle.
I hope this will keep running for a while. Working on my own setup, but it's a complete makeover of the office, so currently working on getting the room ready :D
On the VR versus widescreen question - I prefer VR in games that I can run on reasonable settings, as it's much more immersive. However, even with a 3060ti, I can't run ACC in VR without turning everything down so much it looks like a cartoon, so widescreen it is. I'm planning on upgrading when the new generation of gpus are available later this year.
Im building my rig as i type this was just wanting some tips and tricks on how to mount my car drivers seat with the angled bits on the front to flat wood

I wish I could share mine I have a odyssey G9 and a fully custom cockpit that I welded myself . With real carbon fiber . I am a automotive collision technician by trade.
