My hero for sure. Started playing basketball when I was a kid because of him, Being a short guy myself, he inspired me to play basketball and he still does outside of basketball with his behaviour and being himself now that I've grown up. I never felt more proud of a person when they are talking about him being great, and great he is.

AI will always be a legend. We know the NBA did him dirty but in the long run, he proved he was right. They have definitely had to start adopting players' rights in their decisions. he proved all they care about is the image and not the players.
Proved he was right? The league's ratings have dropped off a cliff in the last 20 years and it's pretty much all due to the (bad) influence of Iverson turning it into some sort of ghetto ball, thug life, gangbangin', no fundamentals-havin', all flash no substance piece of crap.

I do agree there are such factors.... but I do think the bigger factor is black people's current condition. Segregation only ended 3 generations ago, and wealth does propaganda over generations statistically. People need generations to over come their current condition. However, to better come it, you also need to change what is currently bad in your own culture. Again, don't get me wrong. These bad culture is not intrisic to black people in anyway. It's fundamental a consequence of history, whether it's from random butterfly effect or explicit historical event. I don't blame black people for it. However, it's also important to acknowledge the bad culture and try to change the current situation, so the future can be better.

Underrated actually. After Jordan, he was the icon and the face of the league...hands down. Whether shoes, cultural impact or his style of play...you could could to few gyms or courts and not see someone emulating variants of his crossover. The man played bigger than his size implied. The NBA gave him his opportunity but milked him and bullied him his whole career. He had everyone dressing like him and empowered alot of ppl. His legacy is of a cultural icon

Where I will applaud you though, the eye test is way more impressive than his box score stats and basketball is 100% a sport where the eye test is a million times more trust worthy than the box score. Iverson was one of my favorites when I first got into basketball. Yes what he did at his size was incredible. For him to keep getting up and keep balling out when he was getting mauled at the rim was something else.

I was in 8th grade when The Answer went to the finals, wore my Iversons everyday, when I was 15, my first tattoo was AIs cross. He was so inspiring. As a man now, knowing what all Allen went thru, how he was treated, he inspires me more now that I can appreciate how much heart this young man (at the time), showed the world that he had. He is very special.
The only question he was "The Answer" to is "Who ruined the NBA?".
Another thing about his tardiness. That organization had him playing literally the whole game, Getting banged up and running the offense the whole time. If ever there was a player in league history who deserved a break it was AI. And they wanted to talk about practice.
Nah I love AI but lets not excuse his unprofessionalism. If he took that seriously, he could have taken more care of his body and played longer. You are right with his heavy minutes and usage rate though, it is a big reason his efficiency suffered and people underestimate his stats. Stars today play a bit over 30 minutes while AI averaged over 40. He played though injuries while we have players taking majority of the season off because their feelings got hurt in Ben Simmons.

AI has never gotten anything but love from his peers and teammates because that’s all he’s ever shown anyone and everyone. He’s the only player I’ve ever seen who shows absolutely every modern player love because he sees the NBA as a brotherhood.
He didn't hurt that woman and it was done because he played football as well. There were people who wanted to take him out of his senior season in football as the #1 receiver. I was in high school in the Hampton Roads area back then. My dad ref'ed his football and basketball games back then.

A more believable conspiracy theory though would be that AI got the MVP that year in exchange for not releasing the album (an MVP is much easier for the commissioner to influence than a Championship).

Iverson had a lot of demons inside him. Got problems with alcohol. Ive red his biography and its quite sad story. Media and NBA tried to blame him for everything, even if it was totally not his fault. So Im not suprised, that he was really frustrated because he needed to prove all the time, he is not the black ship,, and had this alcohol issues. Fascinated player, who got huge impact, how current NBA looks like.

@@showtimenick824 I agree, Billups was a better fit. They only made the trade because of AI's expiring contract thinking that they had a chance at LeBron next off season. So they used AI's expiring contract for the cap space to sign LeBron but ended up signing Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva while LeBron signs to Miami.
Yeah AI is my dude, and the comparison with Melo is right, but when AI started to slow, it didn’t seem like he did much to adjust his game to fit in with other teams. Melo did.
I remember the Memphis thing going a lot differently than this video explained. His ego made him leave Memphis.
