Dude, you really should just do the whole Exile album. If it ain’t the greatest ever made its pretty damn close. Definitely the Stones’ best, every song is exceptional, and it NEVER gets old.

Great reaction! You always recognize the greatness. The album that this song is from "Exile on Main St." was a sprawling, messy, drug-fueled, dazzling work of genius. Most of it was recorded in the basement of a rental house in France, then finished in LA with top session musicians (background vocals mostly). This song has it all, so much mashed together in a perfect, sleazy groove. Keep up the great work!

Great reaction and song choice, man. You mentioned the bass player. On that particular song it was NOT the Stones regular bass player - Bill Wyman - but their lead guitarist, Mick Taylor supplying that awesome bass groove.
For all is antics and dancing, Mick Jagger is a great songwriter, fabulous.

saw j guiles start for the stones in cleveland. they were really good. i wondered how the stones were gonna top that. then they played tumblin; dice and blew me away. it's been a favorite song of mine since then. glad you liked it too.
I was there as well. It was my first concert. I also experienced my first concert trauma. I got separated from my older brother and his friends for about 45 minutes. I was a tiny kid and being lost among almost 70 thousand people. I missed the J.Geils set. My brother made it up to me by taking me to many other concerts after that.

@@nthdegree1269 I agree, not taking any credit away from them. My only point is that the Stones also made great music and I don't understand why they are constantly being compared. To me they sound nothing alike, each having their own distinct sound and their own amazing accomplishments.
@@laurakennedy9250 That is true. They were compared cause they originated out of the 60s. Very different bands. Imagine it this way. Pretend you see a group of people opening a door, and when they do a GIANT ferocious wave comes in, sweeping the people who opened the door. Though they manage to float for a bit and ride the waves they are soon consumed. Everyone else finds the smaller waves to ride and survive. That is basically what happened with the Beatles. They hit it so BIG that it drowned them. There was no fame like it. It went too far. Even Keith Richards thinks it consumed them. Such an explosion of creativity was unleashed that others found their own identity. The Beatles being that major catalyst. The Stones were around and seen this and are therefore compared.

And we could go back even further, the Beatles say their music was influenced by the likes of Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis who were also great innovators when it came to rock and roll. Again, not to diminish their genius, I believe a part of their being "too big" also had to do with the fact that they we just different: long hair, British accent, "pretty boy" lead singer Paul. All of these things made those silly young girls act like fools. Their later music proved to the world how incredibly talented they were but, to be honest, their very early music like "She Loves You", in my opinion, wasn't as good as the early American rockers. After listening to both The Beatles and The Stones for so many years, I still find myself listening to the Stones fairly often but I rarely listen to the Beatles anymore. I'm not saying that one is better than the other, it's just a personal preference...Oh, almost forgot, one of my favorite artists is John Lennon (his solo albums, just deleted the Yoko tracks and I was good to go). And that reminds me, how on earth do people say that Tom Petty's music sounds like Bob Dylan's? Baffling...

I would love to see you react to Far Away Eyes. It's the Stones kinda poking fun at country music except it's better then anything country has put out in years lol. Waiting on a Friend is another fun song to listen to. I would also recommend some early Stones stuff like Mothers Little Helper and Under My Thumb.

Everyone always forgets about Out of Time. It’s really a great song. Tragic it was left off the US release of Aftermath.

That bass Player is Bill Wyman. He is a grandpa now and takes his grandchildren searching for lost buried artifacts in the English country side. This song was the only hit from this album.
Wyman isn't actually on this track, that's Mick Taylor playing bass. Wyman wasn't around on the day they recorded it.

A masterpiece that people don't really recognize because, as Mick Jagger said, "the worst mixed song I've ever heard". They were just too high when doing it. Jagger was so pissed.
If you want to listen to the Stones for yourself at their peak (imho of course) it's Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed and the Exile on Main St albums. This is from Exile. For their earliest stuff, Aftermath

Great choice. Greatest rock and roll band in the World. Yes it’s a toss up between Beatles & Stones, but Stones always had more edge and funk. These guys were mixing it up very early on, they turned the world onto American / African blues. They made sure that blues legends like Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and many others were treated right. They covered those unknown blues artist’s songs so they could make money from the publishing, unlike Led Zeppelin who stole from them.

It's greatly written, has an esquisite feel. Great lyrics, great vocal melody that goes sooo well with grove. As Mick has said for years, one of the worst recorded, mixed great songs ever. They were so high during the mixing that they essentially destroyed a masterpiece. You can here the masterpiece if you know what your listening for, but this song could have been soooo much more. Someday this is getting re-done , when people are ready and is going to be a massive thing. ;) You heard it here first. Haha.
this willnever be as good as your first channel because you had heavy hitters that you heard for the first time, Stones, Sabbath, Z,Led Zep,Doors, Tool, Perfect Circle. these little b-side tracks from other artists won't have that kind of hit.

I thought it was Wyman because I was just watching CNN's The Seventies coincidentally before I came across this question, and there was a clip they showed which was presented as the RS recording in the Chateau in France, w/ Wyman on bass and Taylor on guitar (along w/ Richards). My guess is that clip may not have been from the original recording sessions--hard to know. I looked up the song on Wiki, and there was a quote from Wyman which seemed to indicate it was Taylor on bass. In any case, I found the video on TH-cam from which CNN got the clip--it may be a rehearsal and not the studio recording, as the title suggests. Bill Wyman was a great bass player.TRS never rolled as well since he left in 1993.
