    Frypans out of titanium easily burn the contents, but I still carry one because of the weight savings. If boiling water only, then titanium has it all over stainless steel. Thanks for the video.

      I agree about titanium frying pans. Really have to keep an eye on your food or keep it on lower heat which isn’t always easy.

      I've got several Ti frypans. Most are worthless except for a 2mm thick Ti pan but even that one is too shallow for anything but bacon. By far the best fry pan I have is an cast aluminum with ceramic 'stone' coating made in Canada. I will take it even over my cast iron skillet.

    • @Woodswalker1965
      @Woodswalker1965  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree with the Ti frying pan problem. The issue is that Ti conducts heat so fast that hot spots develop. I imagine a super thick frying pan would work better but cost many many $$$$lol.

      I use a diffuser and a titanium pan. The diffuser itself can have multiple purposes and is worth the extra weight. It’s still lighter than stainless steel.

    Excellent Wade! I made the switch to Ti one piece at a time. But it really is 💯 better.

    You have a tendency to address the questions that keep me awake at night. Nice to see some actual data.
    Also nice to see measurement ticks on some of the gear - I have a family member who is a type one diabetic. It is helpful to be able to measure food out on the trail. Be well. 🐻☕🏴‍☠

    fun info Wade, thanks. I have a titanium kt for a going out for the day or a hike. I works well. Although not in the same category as what you've reviewed here, but my friend found a NIB Triangia 2 person (I think) cook set at the Thrift Shop for $6.00!! He did a little video for me cooking a simple meal for himself while on a day hike. It was fabulous and all on one fill of alcohol. That might be my next cook set. Nice to see you, as always.

    I have a smattering of both and like them equally. If i'm going out for a day then weight isn't a hindrance but if I'm going on a multi-day hike then titanium is better.

      To be honest I was surprised as well. The flame from the Trangia was closer to the pot and there was a better windscreen. I’ll still use the Trangia for sure, it has some advantages too. Take care👍

    Try the trangia burner in the other pot stand it would be faster

    • @Woodswalker1965
      @Woodswalker1965  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Possibly. It was difficult to see the flame on video but the SilverAnt flame was bigger and the pot was farther away from the flame. The Trangia flame was a bit smaller but the pot was much closer. I thought the Trangia would boil faster actually. The faster heat transfer of Titanium contributes to the fast boil time on the SilverAnt I believe.

  • @clausziegler5720
    @clausziegler5720 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry, but in my opinion you need to make the "cross" test und put the trangia alcohol stove into the titanium wind shield with the steel pot off course. Reason: The pot holder is sittting directly on the trangia stove and is taking away heat directly from the stove. This is not the case in your titanium setup. Therefore I think the both setups are not comparable in particular in your cold envirement during the test.

    • @Woodswalker1965
      @Woodswalker1965  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. It was a comparison of two complete setups as designed. Both stoves were in full bloom before I put the pots on and started the timer. As honest of a test as possible IMO. Good input though👍

    Nice....... But why is the cup/cookpot you present, not on their website? Is that product something new that they are considering? The cookpot isn't anywhere on their site. Would be nice if they sold that group as a package.

    • @Woodswalker1965
      @Woodswalker1965  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I should have mentioned the 750 ml pot is a prototype. I chose the other items off their website personally, I’ll check later if they are still there.
      ps The 1200 ml bottle and stove kit are both available on the website. The mug is not available as of yet.

      @silverantoutdoors ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi @WhiskeyRiver - Thanks for the comment. The new 750ml cup/pot from SilverAnt will be released in May. There are 2 variations with and without the bail handle. We sent it to Wade early to test and get feedback. Glad to hear you like the pot! SilverAnt

    but sir how do you wash the silverant titanium bottle? the mouth is extremely small for a normal adult hand to reach in and brush the walls.

    • @Woodswalker1965

      Great suggestion! Thanks for watching. The flame on the Silver Ant stove was much more aggressive and the thermal properties of titanium no doubt helped out a lot!

    Would that coffee cup work as a snuff ring? 🤔

    • @Woodswalker1965
      @Woodswalker1965  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good eye! Yes it will and I tried it when I first got the set. I didn’t recommend people doing this as methyl hydrate is quite toxic and I wouldn’t want it in contact with a cup. Thanks for the question👍

    Personally I don't bother with titanium products. Too many of them are just the same product rebranded a dozen times from one factory in China (all titanium products are manufactured entirely in China). And they are not titanium either, but an alloy with a little bit of titanium in it.
    All titanium camping/hiking products are an alloy with very low titanium content (I would guess ~5% titanium at most). I know this due to the price difference between identical stainless steel/titanium products (generally 2-3 times more for titanium items), compared to the price ratio between stainless steel and pure titanium (titanium costs about 35 times more than steel). Unfortunately I do not know what is in the alloy they use, but I am reasonably certain it is mostly aluminum, aluminum is highly heat conductive (several times higher than steel) while pure titanium is notorious for how unconducive it is. Plus aluminum is 1/4 the weight of steel. Titanium backpacking products on the market are light, and very conductive, and titanium is only one of those.
    The other reasons I don't use titanium products are they can be too conductive. They burn food easily (best suited for boiling water), and if it is not insulated they cool down quickly too. Plus the high cost and I am I doubt very much the titanium products are anywhere as strong as steel (though they would be stronger than typical aluminum).
    At least SilverAnt seems to be making their own products (their designs are different from what I usually see) and are not yet another rebrand.
