Tip: Before painting, rub olive oil into your hair, liberally. This will keep the paint from sticking to your hair (it will shampoo out easily) while at the same time giving your hair a spa-type conditioning. A light sheen of olive oil on your face, neck, ears, arms, & legs will also do wonders for your skin & allow the paint to wash off easily.
.....As a former Professional Painter...I just wrapped my hair up ( it's long) and wore a Satin Shower /Sleep Cap when working .. no paint ,no washing required. 😊😉 This also works when using Power Tools... A saw, A Wet Saw, ...you get idea......lol..
Cute, funny. Not sure how drilling holes in the cabinets and walls are renter friendly but there's also a wall painted black so i guess we don't have the same definition of renter friendly. The floor upgrade was awesome
I was laughing my way through this whole thing, and my husband in the next room was laughing too! You're inspiring the hell out of me to do something like this in my dinky 600sqft apartment
Aw yay! I replied twice to this, but I used inappropriate language and pretty sure it got deleted. Haha. This is so lovely to hear. Definitely do it! And welcome to the cheap coven. We have all sorts of ideas for you. 😉
This TH-camr >> HGTV holy shit. I am a renter, possibly perpetually, but this gave me so much inspiration and hope to make my coziest home!!! I probs won't go as hard as you but that's fine lmao. Y'all are so entertaining and little girly touches along the process like glitter nail polish and FMK is 10/10 love ya!
You two are hilarious! My husband walked by and heard you both and started laughing! Getting ready to buy my first house, and those hacks will be used! What a great and informative video. Thank you and I am subscribing!
I will watch anything you ladies make. Love the glitter! The N’Sync shirt! The impromptu FMK sesh. And the sense of humor with everything. Please move to FL so we can hang out. I will forever be saying “make your mistakes in the shadows” so thank you for everything 😂
You are hilarious and I am loving this video. I’m still laughing at half the stuff you say well most of the things you say actually keep up the good work.
I've never seen such a helpful DIY video be so genuinely funny & entertaining. Like, more good jokes per minute than every million$$ HGTV show combined.
I think I just found my new favorite DIY channel you guys are so funny and refreshing to watch! Also I wish I knew about the floor tile hack with my last apartment because I swear I developed a hunchback scraping all the goo off the floor 😭
What a transformation! I also rent and have cabinets that are dated, may have to try the contact paper to brighten it up. Renter friendly tips are the best! Thanks for the tips!
For the removable tiles, you can put posterboard down and lay the tiles on top of that. If you're worried about them shifting, only use the posterboard on the middle tiles. And then you only have glue on the outer edges of the floor when you remove the tiles. Also, I was cracking up at parts of this video. It was so fun to watch.
I just shared this with my niece as this is a good way to upgrade one's kitchen until she is ready for the big remodel. Is the contact paper easily removeable? I heard you say the floor was but wasn't sure if the contact paper comes off well. I learned something new about contact paper.....I wish I saw this when I was doing the inside of my cabinets and had a fight with the contact paper. Unrolling it as you go is key as you said! At 64, I am still learning new tricks. Thanks for this affordable upgrade video.
A few things about the contact paper… 1) Removable but important to not put it on painted cabinets. Here were wood veneer, so it was fine. It’s best on wood or melamine cabinets. 2) Thicker quality contact paper is better to work with and easier to remove. The thinner it is the more it tears. 3) Heating up with a hair dryer eases removal since it melts the adhesive. 4) If there is gunk leftover, a product like Goo Gone adhesive remover will get it off. Hope that all helps.
@@LaughCryDIY I own my house I just want something temporary until I save for a full reno is it ok? Or does contact paper not work on painted cabinets?
@@daisyfreshification oh! Amazing! It‘ll likely peel paint off when you remove. (But it’ll stay. You might need to replace here or there if you have a lot of use and, ya know, ding it with silverware or something.) Since Rachele had laminate wood cabinets, they wouldn’t be an issue. I used paintable peel-and-stuck wallpaper on another kitchen makeover on the channel for painted cabinets because it’s made to be removed from painted surfaces and the adhesive isn’t as strong. But if you own, I might recommend painting with one of the paints that doesn’t require as much work (like major prep and sanding). I’ve heard good things about things like Beyond Paint. m.th-cam.com/video/ZO4u4YTIwgM/w-d-xo.html
I enjoyed watching this video with the two of you, just as much as I enjoyed the final kitchen makeover!! hahaha I love the personalities, great TH-camrs!! This is such a gorgeous transformation. However, I do have a question: Is it okay to drill holes into the cabinet doors? Wouldn't that mess up your deposit? LOL Because... I am REALLY contemplating accessorizing these cabinet doors with hooks!

Great makeover. I’m stuck with ugly, dookie brown kitchen cabinets and would love to DIY contact paper but I’m scared about removing the paper after a year. Does it come off neatly. I’m too poor to let go of my deposit. Thanks 😊
If they’re just wood (and not painted), they should be fine. But A great super low-damage alternative is this: you use fabric and liquid starch to cover cabinets/furniture. Here are some tutorials others have done: www.hometalk.com/diy/kitchen-dining/kitchen-dining-furniture/renter-s-cabinet-cover-up-27279359 sewbeckyjo.com/starch-fabric-kitchen-cabinets-tutorial/ I also did this hack to do wallpaper in my Tiny Studio Makeover video: th-cam.com/video/9VEzcM_3Z-k/w-d-xo.html
A thicker-quality one is easier to work with (some are incredibly thin). But make sure that your current cabinets are not painted. It will take the paint off.
I've never watched such an amazing makeover overshadowed by the people making it. Loved every bit of this haha and it turned out awesome.

A lot of landlords don’t care if you paint as long as you can paint it back later
Everything that is reversible is renter friendly to me. Holes can be filled up, walls repainted back to original colour.
@@idakwapinska6905 those refilled holes in the wooden cabinets will not look the same therefore not renter friendly
Black walls are no Problem. You just need some more paint coats to cover it up when you move out :)
Not so shure about the holes in the cabinetts
Sometimes landlords are ok with updates. Especially small ones like hardware additions.
