Hi old friend. Another chapter of history where there would have been some interesting stories if they were still with us. Another chapter of history that should never be forgotten is WWI. It has a pride of place in my archives, and I still add a lot of info to it. We have all heard the stories of our hero's, but never the unsung hero's, who should never be left to fade into the mist's of time. There was one old soldier, Harry Patch, he was the last of the Vet's to pass in 2009, he was 112yrs old. Happy stories, and sad and tragic stories, but do the younger generation realise what was sacrificed, and why?
    I am the dreadful menace
the one whoe's will is done,
the haunting chill upon your neck
    I am the conundrum.
I will summon armies of wind
    and rain and snow,
I made the dark skies overhead
and the ice like glass below.
Not you nor any other can
fathom what is high, I will
tell you when to jump and I'll
    dictate how high.
    The ones who came before
you stood tall and strong and brave,
I took their dreams away, their dreams
    could not be saved.
    Now you stand before me
devoid of all dismay, could be
just maybe I'll let you have this day?
    Anon.
Old proverb: It takes years to build a friendship, but it can be lost in a minute.
    Cheers SK.

Hi old friend. Absolutely, our fallen, being it famous or not. They all fought their own war to survive or unfortunately perish. I am enjoying discovering hidden history, in the most odd places.
I always look forward to seeing your wonderful comments. I really appreciate your support Sir.

That’s a cracking one Kev, such an array of different grave styles, those gardens look beautiful I can imagine it in the summer, and I’ve never seen a little grave “safe” like that before 😮.

This was a stunning video, Kev! Thank you so much for all the research and additional information, too. The V.C. grave was remarkable, and so too was Bobby Moore's. However, what really stood out me was the CWGC memorial with the book inside (that's something I've never seen before) and the Jack the Ripper graves. I had no idea where any of the victims were buried. Placing a rose on each of them was a lovely gesture. Thanks again, Kev. Great work! 👍😀

I was wondering whether you’ve ever visited Southampton Old Cemetry? It’s adjacent to the Common and has some very interesting features including military sections for a number of nationalities. There are also several Titanic headstones. Plus the memorial of one Edward Askew Southern _”A Comedian”_ as it says on his headstone from the 19th century who you can find online.
It’s a good walk if you’re ever in Soton

    • @spitfirekev
      @spitfirekev  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

No I haven't visited that one yet I don't think. If it's by the hospital, then yes I have. But if I haven't, I will most definitely will have to visit. Thank you muchly for the information.

@@spitfirekev Hi Kev. You’re very welcome.
It is _in the vicinity_ of the hospital but still a 1 - 2 miles away. So not sure if that’s the one you’ve been to b4?
If you go up Hill Lane for almost 3/4 of a mile (?), heading away from Soton train station, you’ll find it on your right with an entrance way similar to, although not as grand as the one featured in this upload.
I think you’ll be charmed. It has beautiful trees and covered walkways in addition to the fascinating statuary and history.
Sadly the church itself is no longer consecrated and is used as office space by an ad agency.
Also, it’s nearness to the common means that there is _some_ vandalism, but on the whole it remains picturesque.
If you do ever get the chance to visit, I trust that you’ll find it a rewarding experience and I look forward to seeing the place again through your eyes. 👍
