Thought I should say that reef builders is the reason I got a saltwater reef tank love your videos and thank you for showing me the wonderful world of corals!
im about to setup a 320.7 waterbox 86inch 30inch 26 inch high" and thinking ether gen 5 xr30 or neptune sky! whats the better light and how many for 99% sps please! are the fans load on the xr30 buddy
Hey man you mentioned in the video that if you’re leaning towards more SPS dominate and acrapora tank to lean towards the pro but I was already leaning towards the blues because of the Color pop I want to achieve. With that said my tank is a 3‘ x 18“ x 24” deep do you think I’d be able to do a mix coral reef tank with two xr15 gen 5 Blues being a slightly skinnier tank?
IMO if you want to be 100% sure you’re not lacking in light or spread. Get two xr30’s and dim till you hit perfect par numbers with better spread. You’ll have par gaps if you run just two xr15’s but it depends on what you’re doing in your tank. I personally did just that.
awesome video once again! i had to buy the blues!!! preorder/back order is killing me! waiting is never fun, but worth the wait!! thanks for the great videos!
I would like to see them working on their own. Also as you run substrate free tanks have you ever considered painting the bottom underside white or black. Black under blue light white under full spectrum. Honestly that really cuts down on the amount of light you need. It's a pretty big money Saver👍🏻
I have a question I hope you dont mind me asking. Ireally want radions but right now I am in a 36 gallon bowfront, but plan to upgrade in about a year to a 120. Iread you say somewhere maybe maxspect razor, because I am looking at that to because it has a huge spectrum, plus cobaly cray on clearance. I like the spectrum of the maxpect jump the but doubt if it has cree lens looks so cheaply made. I lie to cove the blue and viloet spectrum , uv plaus little red green and white, cyan cool as well. Oh and the ufo has a huge spectrum.. So my question is since I only am going to turn up a 15 radion probably less than halfway does it make more sense to get a 50 watt like the maxspect would have 3 x 50 watts. anyway. Will I just get washed out color turned down so low? I like the red sea alot and it is 50 but no red or green! Also the ai prime but its so cheap looking and small and thin. I cant use those to upgrade but I will either keep this tanklor get a frag. Do you know much about noopsyche. Someone said if you only have cool white and royal and cool blue with no deep blue or warm white that its a wired color. Thats one reason why I want a like 420 blue but is that violet? because the nex blue is 440. Someone had a 295 uv or I think it said marine blue. Think it might have been maxpect etheral. I like that to but no green and red. Please tell me if I should go to 50 watts or so, and if so whats a good one. Is it worth it to pay more for radion when maxspect razor seems as good! Brs said it had the biggest uv band they had seen, I do like a little shimmer too and looks like razor had no shimmer! Thanks. Sorry so long, just answer what you can! I watch all your videos. You the bomb!
I asked the last question. The jump has all the spectrums like radion and maxspect razor and its 65 watts. Would that be better since I only have 36 gallons and will have to turn the 2 radions xr15's way down, so afraid the color will be washed out? Does it matter if I get over powered? I know like stereo speakers you have to match to the watts from the redio or something haha, so I think about that and my 10 gallon current orbit will turn lime if I lower the green and pinkish if I lower the red. Do you know if maxpect uses cree for Jump? Who is selling that? Cant seem to find it yet! I cant find the 8300 ufo either that had a lot of color and dense matrix, now they changed it to z8 and I am sure took away cree because it says it nowhere on the box or add! I am having a very rough time! lol OMG I just went to your article and they dont have red or green! I am going to jump off a cliff...lol THis is crazy. Same thing with the etheral! I love both thos lights. How can they be so dumb, espially to basically make the same light twice but cheaper looking! I guess it maxspect razor even though its ugly on legs and cant upgrade with ir or put it on a frag tank either. Or blow it out with radion and buy 2 x's the power I need. Unless it will wash out the colors. Please tell me if it will! Thanks!
what size pipes did you use for the Lighting hanging Brackets? Thanks from Sydney Aust (hanging for the next Reef stock, been to the last 2 in Syd.) Keep up the great work Jake!
it's 3/4" electrical conduit that has been bent into curves - only cost me about $50 for all the hardware to make this lighting platform for three coral flats, and it works hella great
Y.A.D I am definitely a white light guy as well, but I ended up getting the blues for my tank for one main reason, the blues have been designed a lot for setting and forgetting. The ease of getting them where I want them and not having to touch it again is what sold me on it. Yes you could set and forget it with the pros too but the individual colors and channels on that one are designed to be played with and tuned to get the best color and growth possible. It’ll at least be a year till there’s good evidence on how both lights works best, but the idea of having something that I have to worry about less sold me on them and man are they blue.
This is what I don't get about reef LEDs. in horticulture when buying LEDs you can find the what chips and bins your LEDs come from along with a full spectrum analysis and par etc. Yet in reef light most people go off their eye and how it looks...... surely I'm wrong and I'm missing something right?
Totally agree. Horticulture you get peak Kelvin per diode, cri, binning of dioded. It drives me crazy too but most people with reef tanks don't know as much as we do about LEDs. That being said they do use mostly cree and other well established diode manufacturers. If i had to guess they are probably pretty decently binned chips. Im pretty sure all diodes have codes on them that correspond to the binning process but you would have to call each manufacturer read off the numbers.
Sps i would go with 3 xr 30 running perpendicular to front glass. Mixed you could get away with 3 xr 15 blue but I would probably use 4 x Xr15 blue. I have 2 xr30 blue and one xr15 blue over my 48 x 32 x 20 lagoon. 🍻
All the reefers love blue blue blue and then they stare like hypnotized to the light. Do they not wonder if the blue like--lower frequency, higher energy--might not be so good for their retinae?
Don't know why American are so crazy about blue, here in Europe it isn't the case at all evening and morning yes but not day time, you will not see the colors of fish and a lot of corals
Yup, don't get buyers remorse. Upgraditis is a syndrome that people get and it's the way companies like Apple hook people and have them feeling the need to upgrade at every iteration by making you feel like your old stuff just isn't good anymore. Do your corals grow under the lights? Do they look good? Then don't worry. I'm not going to call out Jake on this, but I do question the 2 G5s is the same as 3 G4s comment he makes, especially not knowing the context of what he means.
echoing what is already said, I am VERY happy with my Gen 4 LEDs, I don't plan to upgrade my 20 fixtures, only a few on this coral flat to see what the Gen5 is truly capable of
Wish I could afored those light but I'm not that rich, husband says thats out of my price range .I have lights that are very cheep. They are chinnees black box not good lps .if there is anyone getting new one ill by your older model.I have a 75 .
Black Boxes grow corals just as well as Radions. You're paying for the brand name, wifi support, and warrenties when purchasing top-end lights. I made the switch to LED's a couple years ago and I may switch back to t5 lighting... too much hype around the LED's and their 'shimmer'. I just want my tank to be covered, with no shading, and my corals to be happy. haha

Would suggest this light for a waterbox peninsula mini 25 ? I currently am using the ai prime 16hd but considering this light.
How many light do need for a 28*28*16 inches tank? Thanks for answering

I wish ecotech had a trade in program to upgrade from gen4 to gen5. Its only been a little over a year on my gen 4
any update on the lights? i feel like the gen 5 loses alot of par mounted high up compared to gen 4.
Hey. I ordered a RB beginners coral poster and I think T shirt, along with some clown fish poster and never got it. Not sure where to reach out
Caution, loud fans on these...Supposed to be quieter, but are louder than my Gen3's.
