  • What a Japanese Castle Town is Like Nowadays. I traveled to Tamba Sasayama, a town about an hour's train ride away from Kyoto and Osaka, to visit a place that some call 'Small-Kyoto'. I check out what it's like around the local castle, Sasayama Castle, as well as the surrounding areas for samurai, peasants, merchants and artisans.

The city of Tamba Sasayama has been certified as an official Japanese heritage site by the Agency for Cultural Affairs and as a UNESCO Creative City in the field of Crafts and Folk Arts. 3.earthquake
      4.giant monster attack
Never would've guessed the end of day bell. That said, I think I've hear that end of day melody elsewhere, maybe it came up in an anime once in the background? Come to think of it, was the melody of the chime towards the end of the schools reused video last year? IDK, its a little thing but I'd love to learn more about it.

The 1560's-ish start to the settlement period was a pretty long time ago, and there was still merit in building a fortified settlement when canons from other Europeans were the worst thing you could encounter. It's really nice to see a video about Sasayama. I went during my first trips years ago as part of an exchange organized by my university, otherwise I would have never known about this place. I had the chance to stay with a family who live in one of the historic house. You gave a hint about a video about pottery, so really looking forward to see if you went to visit the kiln in Tamba, I personally relly liked it.

Watching your videos always makes me melancholic. I made a choice 20 years ago to "grow up" and stop travelling. I moved to Asia, and settled down. I shouldn't have done that. If I'd only kept travelling I would have realized that what I was searching for was in Japan - the climate, culture, food, and nature are exactly what my heart desires. I've visited and it always feels like coming home, but I can't stay because I don't have the right degree for my work as a photographer. Now it's a little too late.
