Funny how 42 years ago have gone by, but this episode still makes me just as happy as it did back when I was 8. I wonder if Lee Majors knows how much of a hero he was to so many of us. I had a rather difficult childhood with step-dad that liked to booze it up, and then take some aggression out on me. This series truly gave me something to look forward to on Sunday nights and let me escape for a little bit. Wow, 42 years - where did the time go...

They are so nostalgic for me. I have actually met both Wagner and Carter and got their autographs. Majors I saw from a distance at a comicon. His line was way too long to meet him too. I was 7, when Lindsay first appeared on the Bionic Man. I loved her instantly. She was beautiful, intelligent, funny, & seemed grounded in reality. Even if I didn't have the vocabulary to express that distinction at the time. It was why I preferred her. To Wonder Woman. Who seemed like. Your typical, idealized, Superhero. Especially in that first season. Only When Lee, & Lindsay, worked together. Did Steve as a character seem to have more depth. I suppose that's also the reason. That although she was my favorite. I ended up being ISIS for Halloween in 75, & WW in 76. Aside from the fact that I had brown hair. How would anyone have identified me as The Bionic Woman. Jaime was played as a person first. It did however spark an interesting conversation at school. I am a wheelchair user from birth. For most of my classmates. I was the first person they knew / their age. To use one. I was asked if I had an accident. If I wished I could be bionic, so I could walk. It gave me an opening. It gave them a chance to ask questions & learn. I went on to say. That I was born this way. Using wheels to get around was as natural for me, as walking was, for them. Though I would love to be able to run super fast & jump up to, & down from, high places. ( What kid wouldn't ) I was not sad, or broken. I did however say. I wanted more ramps & elevators. LOL. I had no Idea just how on the nose I was.

I still think to this day it had one of the best opening sequences. The perfect fusion of action, dialogue, sound & music with the bionic parts schematics on display overlayed with his vitals as they rebuilt Steve and then that awesome freeze shot at the end with the shows name and the light effect centred on his bionic eye. A work of television art. What do we have today, we barely have opening credits for TV shows, and for those that do they’re not the scale or quality of this classic 70’s series.

So realistic! Would've been easier to cue the TV audience to put a pair of sunglasses on for those scenes and just film normally.

One major difference between the TV shows then and now is there were not many spoilers. When Jamie died in part 2 it was Shocking! The outcry was real. No one saw that coming and there was no social media to ruin the ending beforehand. It’s why most programming then was more impactful. The Six Million Dollar Man was science fiction and an escape for many, but still provided an emotional impact nonetheless.
