Great vid - I'd add run engine til hot and check for sump plug and filter leaks. Then recheck level after 30 minutes on flat area and top up if necessary.
Very helpful video. The screw your missing is an 8mm not a 10 as mentioned and i do the same with the oil filter housing i just tighten it till nice and snug cause they crack easily. As for the drain plug i usually tighten it to 15lbs never more. Sometimes its leaks slightly if the brass seal is put on upside down. If you look closely one side is smoother than the other. Not sure if thats correct but thats what ive noticed from experience.
@@ProjectMini dang who are you thank this video & help from you ! Super helpful I wonder how many people actually read this stuff other than me! Thanks both of you guys ! Are use Castro? I say to use it’s so I do bc I don’t trust many people! Lol
Never mind; I undid the oil filter canister and noted that the O ring was NOT seated in the proper groove ( not the very bottom ) BTW didn't lose any oil on removal; will be rechecking for leaks and topping off
Got to be careful with the coolant! Ugg I to it off & had coolant I flip out of course 1 this is a new ! ToooO Me ! I think it’s best to make sure you have a extra everything when working on car ! Clamps, Also that little screw things I don’t know what they’re called but like when you’re doing your brakes ,shocks ,struts whatever a little black pen things hold ur plastic back on the car 🤞🤦♀️lol
Same procedure (N14 and N18). Same oil volume (incl filter housing) of 4.2 Liters. Both require 5W30 full synthetic. 5W40 full syn may also be used in warmer climates. Castrol is a recommended brand...or any good equivalent. I try not to mix oil BRANDS between changes, unless in a pinch. Try to change (oil and oil filter) every 5000 miles (8000 KM) if you want the timing chain/guides and turbo to last longer. Try to keep the dipstick level between mid point and full at all times, if you want the timing chain/guides to last. Monitor dipstick level at least every other full refill of the gas tank (or every ~700 miles). Old dirty oil will gunk up the engine over time...especially the oil feed line to the turbo. Hence, routine changes at 5000 miles will extend turbo life significantly.
Minis of that era are notorious for suggesting something silly like every 15k miles in user manual. Thus people who still have functioning old minis tend to go a bit overboard on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Is 5w-30 the same oil for my european 2008 JCW R56 with the N14?
Ur content is so helpful thanks ! Should i use castrol edge or castrol magnatec for my mini cooper 2007 non s 1.6 ? ( 5W40)
Thank you 🙏 I’m sure either oil will be fine in the weight specified in your manual 💪
@@ProjectMini thank you
Hey what did you use to get the car in the air? Are those wheel chucks?
Ramps from Walmart
Dont you need to prime the filter first ?
can the oil filter canister be removed WITHOUT draining the crankcase? I need to remove mine to check for a leak
Never mind; I undid the oil filter canister and noted that the O ring was NOT seated in the proper groove ( not the very bottom ) BTW didn't lose any oil on removal; will be rechecking for leaks and topping off
but after you start the car and the new oil filter fills up doesnt the oil level drop quite a bit?
Not in my experience
You can pour some new oil into the filter before you fit it on to help it a bit
Hey I have a 2009 Mini Cooper s and I am getting an oil pressure light what could be wrong, I got the pump changed and it didn’t fox the problem
Are you getting a code? Is your oil topped off?
Project Mini yes I am getting the code and yes
What is the code?
Project Mini oil pressure
The actual code, the number
Do you have to remove the coolant to get to the filter?
you have to move the coolant reservoir, yes, absolutely, to change the filter
After how many mile you need to change the oil?
I shoot for 4000
I would put my trust in the owner's manual.
@@larsonfraud4156 don't wait that long! Max 6k miles between oil changes if it's done over 60k miles.
@@larsonfraud4156don’t trust the owners manual on these they will not live very long based on manual intervals
Do you put Oil additive? Thanks for all the videos I don’t like that you bought it are 53 LOL

Does anyone know how similar this would be with an N18?

Is it really necessary to change oil every 2k miles?? Id be changing mine every few weeks 🤣
