Hopefully this video and my others of the Convair bring back happy memories. I looked up both of the airports you mention, I didn't realise Montana was so high, both of the airport's altitudes are over 1100m. Thanks for watching and commenting, Anthony.
I never had the pleasure myself of flying in a Convair 580 but certainly enjoyed watching them at our local airport. Thanks for watching and commenting, Anthony
WOWZERS!!!! From this angle, the 580 looks as big as a Boeing 737-200 series! They're almost the same size anyway, with the wing and fuselage dimensions being opposites. What I mean is that the Convair has a wide wingspan, measuring at 105 feet or so, with the fuselage measuring around 81 feet, whereas the 737-200 is 102 feet long with a 93-foot wing span.
They're cool aircraft. Air Chathams have retired theirs now, we went to AKL to video the last departure of ZK-CIB. Thanks for watching and commenting, Anthony
By the way, I wonder what it would be like for this airport to be served by some of the shorter 737's - such as the -200, -500, or even -700 series? They are ground-accessible, too, you know, and don't necessarily require a jetway for boarding - although the latter option would be nice for the sake of weather conditions.
737 flights would move our small airport to the next level and also get it extended, it is only 1190m long. I have seen a Hercules at KKE, a big aircraft compared with others that have land there. Thanks for watching and commenting, Anthony.
También me gusta el sonido que hacen las hélices, particularmente cuando el avión se está preparando para despegar. Gracias por ver y comentar, Antonio.
Built at a time when things were much simpler. Some interesting vids on your channel, I'll watch some later today. Thanks for watching and commenting, Anthony.
Every time that a Convair has been to KKE they were charter runs. From memory the passengers related to the luggage flew in an ATR. Thanks for watching and commenting, Anthony.
It might have been 'Sabena, when it was a 340. But, Frontier started the idea of the Convair 580, in 1963! They (The Frontier president, Lewis Dymond, & the Frontier board) flew to San Diego to talk to officials at General Dynamics (Parent company for Convair.) about stretching the Convair 340, & replacing the engines with powerful "turbo-Jet" Allison engines. The 1st 580 rolled out of the San Diego plant June 1st, 1964! ( SOURCES --> 'Airliners Magazine - ( May - June 1998; January- February 2002) & Wikipedia. )) I hate being a smart ass. But, I keep seeing these 580's dated in the 1950's, & it's WRONG! I also lived in western Colorado, where the Frontier 580 was like a 2nd car to the region. And, I had a buddy that worked for them for 22 years, in Durango, Colorado. But I gotta say... I LOVE this video!
I will update the description about the early life of this aircraft. I bet your friend has a few tales to tell. Thanks for watching and commenting, Anthony.
Commuted almost every weekend for two years on Frontier 580’s from KGTF to KBIL and back, may have flown on ZK-CIB. A very nice aircraft.
Hopefully this video and my others of the Convair bring back happy memories.
