  • Here is artist Sylvia Parisotto's full length interview for our series , "Stories of Art for Recovery."
After experiencing a seizure while running in 2003, Sylvia discovered a brain tumor in her right parietal lobe. She has had four brain surgeries, three different chemotherapy treatments and radiation. A lifetime artist, the location of her tumors caused cognitive and visual-spatial issues that made making art a challenging and frustrating experience, so she stopped.
After joining Art for Recovery at UCSF, she began to create again feeling inspired and encouraged by her participation in the program and community. Sylvia has a unique and creative approach to reclaiming her story and life as an artist.
