    Can I use this on brick? Flashing was put up wrong from the start by roofers . Have a room addition and the flashing is on the brick and new room.

    Thank you for the great presentation and shared knowledge. I also need to fix a what I believe to be called a " Gutter Box " that drains the water off the flat roof. The box of course sits level with the roof so that it drains the water through the interior side of the wall and out the exterior. A vertical gutter sleeve is attached to it on the exterior side of the wall. I am thinking if the Gutter Box isnt damaged i can also use the Poly Turbo and Mesh surrounding the box. What do u advised?

    Hi Dr. I love your videos. I have a question; why do writers on the internet say silicone is better than PU? I personally am using Bostik PU Seal N' Flex as i cannot get bergstromm Products here, where I am. After viewing some of your videos I am leaning towards PU.

      I use both Super Silicone Seal and Turbo Poly Seal for different applications. Urethane Silicone base sealant is very very effective on EPSM Rubber roofs but Turbo Poly Sewal will not band to EPDM. Super Silicone is more liquidy, therefore it will tend to flow off flashing details before curing. Turbo Poly Seal is very thick and sticky and doesn't run or flow easy. Both the sealants adhere well to metal, plastic, glass, and cement. The secret is the polyester fabric that is used in conjunction with these products, that is what gives the strength.
      Flex liquid does not come with any polyester fleece, so then you can use Henry's fleece that is sold in Home Depots. Henry's polyester fabric is stiffer and thinner and does not conform easily to curves and odd shapes.
      Turbo Poly Seal and Super Silicone Seal have a specially formulated polyester fabric that is softer and stronger than Henry's that makes for better repairs.
      I hope I gave some reason for the why's and why nots.
      Thanks for the question and I hope to hear more from you.
      Naas

      @@FlatRoofDoctor Thanks for informative reply. By the way I use Butyl tape on top of the PU sealant to extend the life by warding off UV light.

    • @FlatRoofDoctor

      I am not familiar with Bostik PU. I guess the PU stands for Poly Urethane. But if you are referring to caulking products, then I will use a Poly Urethane caulking above any other. There is a place for every type of caulking, but not every caulking is meant for every situation

    Very helpful video. What do you have to do to get the tape and sealant to adhere to painted rough stucco? I don't want to grind down the stucco. I also need to patch large fissures in an epdm roof. Should I use the sealant and tape or put a patch over the opening and then the sealant and tape?

    Cut a 45 degree raggle kerf 1/2 inch deep about 2 inches above old reglet flashing full length of wall. Use your poly urethane and insert counter flashing over the old reglet flashing. Boom. Water runs down wall onto counterflashing and cant go up a 45degree slot. Permanent!

    Hello Flat roof doctor.
    I have a roof that has an attached patio.
    With a gap about 1/4 inch. Just purchased the trailer. Looks like the gutter or whatever they had there is gone. There is no flashing just some steel between the patio roof n the trailers flat roof.
    My man put some flex tape on it.some creases. I saw your video that says it gets hot n adhesive wont stick. Now that we spent allot to repair so much up there. He says hes done. He wont let me get up there. To see what's wrong n to fix it myself. I'm thinking turbo poly seal polyester fleece n then a coat of the turbo poly seal again. But unsure because I haven't seen it.
    Now if it needs flashing I'm not sure how to attach onto the flat roof which is what he tells me about 1/4 inch away n also patio roof is lower than trailer flat roof I believe but not positive rubber roofing. He used a silver seal on part of the roof neighbor said u have to do every 2 years or so. I'd love to see a video on how to fix this. Rochester NY

    The only thing I do to my mobile home roof every 5 years is roll on that"Henry's Tropicool"I have Never had a leak since(12 years)& Henry's Tropicool is supposed to last a lifetime so really I shouldn't have to even apply Henry's every 5 years but I do it anyway.

    • @FlatRoofDoctor
      @FlatRoofDoctor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, I wonder what the top of that roof is starting to look like. You will not get away doing that on a residential roof where more flashing is involved. A mobile home is slightly slanted and does not have much pooling water. A mobile home is 10 - 12 ft wide, Not much should go wrong. Why started coating in the first place?

      Not correct. I am a South African doing it the "Boer maak a plan" way. I made a living repairing roofs in connecticut for over 30 years. If had to many clall backs, I would be out of business. So whatever repair I did lasted.

    Poor repair. I'd have pulled the reglet metal, re-glued the EPDM to the wall, laying a bead of water block on the edge, installed termination bar mechanically fastened with rawl pins over that, mechanically fastened a metal compression flashing over it all, then caulk...

    • @FlatRoofDoctor
      @FlatRoofDoctor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Typical at the end you still want to use caulking. This was done the way you describe it, and it failed. Of course I am showing how it really should be done. I am showing how to make an inexpensive repair to something that was already done. You are talking about making a repair that the owner wouldn't want to pay for.
      Why is everyone always want to criticize work that I do to show people an alternative way to make inexpensive repairs and try to compare it to something that would cost 10 x as much. That doesn't make sense. If you can get the pay on the job you are describing, then I am all for it. If I can help someone to stop a leak at a fraction of the cost than what you are proposing, then I feel I have done a good deed.
      By the way, I went back to the same roof a few weeks ago to do the same treatment on another wall, and the owner said i n that video, "This is the least amount of leaks he had for the last 30 years" Hmm, I guess it worked.

    Looks like roofing in the Usa will fall in couple.of years. Poor standards of work. Only Europeans brought some skill here. Compare roffing in Europe and Usa. In Europe no damn caulking. No cut on metal flashing. Everything is bended and folded.

  • @paulessam6840

    Should have took the old flashing off. Resealed roof membrane and then put the flashing back, and then used his second sealer. I don't like the way he kicked the flashing, shows unprofessional attitude.
