The amount of tip-in goals this team is getting in these playoffs is one of the biggest reasons why they feel different from other Leafs teams this year. It doesn't matter who the goalie is when that many are getting tipped in close
absolute jaw dropping pinpoint precision with these guys this year!
I'm trying to remember the last time we got so many point shot goals and point shot tip in goals and am drawing a blank. It's those little things that winning teams seem to do.

If you watched the post game show on Sportsnet, former TB assistant coach Derek Lalonde spoke to this. He said when he was with TB that their stats showed that even though Vasi was all world he was statistically one of the worst goalies in the league for stopping point shots and that the coaching staff actually adjusted their D strategies and player deployment on the PK to help deal with it.
Derek LaLonde said it best. "We did a study...he was one of the lower-percentage goalies in finding pucks from the point...we changed our entire Dzone (coverage)." Exactly why you see so many shots from the points now.
Matthew Knies was on the ice for the overtime winner in game 3 and 4, he's staying in the lineup.

Exactly my thoughts. I am building up cautious excitement. The goal is not just getting past Round 1, but winning round 1 would be a huge burden lifted. That Boston series in the 2012-13 lockout season haunts me to this day. The players really need to concentrate 200% each shift. You can't come out slow and expect to comeback every game. What I see in this season's edition of the Leafs is fight, character, grit. They might not be the biggest team, but they are built of men, battered and battle-tested from several years of playoff Round 1 disappointment. Here's to strongly believing for the long time in forever that this year will finally be our year!! Go LFG!! 💙💙🇨🇦🇨🇦

I was *this* close to turning this game off after the 4-1 goal. I wasn't so much disgusted with the leafs play, but Tampa was just having one of those games were they just turn into a brick wall and frustrate the hell out of you. I'm sooo damn glad I kept watching, that was the most amazing 15 mins of leafs hockey in 20 years.

Bolts fan here and I have to say it, you guys don't give up. I mentioned here after last year's game 7 to not "blow it up" and that you would be back.
After the score became 4-3, I said to my buddy "Leafs will win this game. You watch." And sure enough, it happened. There's just this resilience from TOR I haven't seen in a while and that's critical in making a deep playoff run.
If you guys do take the series, I will tip my hat and wish you luck. And hey, if you knock out Boston, you would be doing both of us a favor! So win-win!

Same. In '94 the Devils went up 3 games to 2 against the Rangers and I almost felt physically ill. I can relate to how Leafs fans have been feeling. Well, we know how the '94 season ended. The Leafs fans have suffered enough I think.

I’m an Avs fan living in/near tampa, after game 1 I told a buddy of mine (a bolts fan) that the lightning wouldn’t win another game in this series. I just feel like it’s finally your year. Edit: I think Samsonovs previous playoff performances have given him an undeserved bad rep. Keep in mind some of these previous performances were coming off the bench. Samsonov is young. Talented. Y’all have former cup winners in oreilly and schenn. I got Toronto going to the finals
Edit 2: matthews is frustrating to the level of Nathan mackinnon. These dudes can COMPLETELY dominate a game at will and for some reason, seemingly, only turn it on when they fell like it. There’s no reason matthews and Mack can’t put up 150 like mcdavid did this season. These dudes are all special. Edmonton being weak theoughout the lineup shouldn’t result in 150 pints for mcd. That shits ludicrous.

Edit 4: being from connecticut originally, I’ve been into college hockey heavy over the past few years with the sudden ascension of UConn and the consistent dominance of quinnipiac. Knies is SO nice. Kid has a certain nature to him where he just shows up in the big games. He was made for the nhl just like cale was. Right from the beginning anyone who knows anything knew these dudes had it. I don’t watch much Canadian junior hockey or even follow it but a lot of these ncaa kids lately have been stepping up. Watch out for the kids from the big 10 schools. Michigan was loaded with them. Samoskevich Hughes fantili. Minnesota had knies luke mittlestadt Brock faber. These guys will be so nice bet me on all of em

I would like to thank you for sending Ryan O'REILLY and Noel Accari. They are well loved members of the team. Love there grit and drive to win. I think Ryan O'REILLY quite from when he first arrived in Toronto was perfect, and would be a great way to cap off his NHL career by helping return the cup where it missed the most. It will be a fight against Boston which could go either way.
O'Reilly is the breaker of curses, who knows what's in store for the leafs.

From LFR, to LFG, massive win but it's not over til it's over
I remember watching your videos in 2007 up to the end of the Kessel era, which is when o stopped watching every game. What a different time that was. Started watching again last year and after game 4 I had to come back to see what you’re up to. Looks like you haven’t changed much, which I’m happy to see. Keep it up Dangle.
That one hurt. It would really be something if the Leafs managed to fumble this given that Vasy hasn't been able to make a big save.
Which is totally weird to see. Vasy was always playoffs lockdown and playing out of his mind. Offense for the Bolts doesn't seem to really be the issue at all. They are scoring quite a lot, but at the same time so are the leafs.
Most if not all of the goals Toronto has scored on vasy have been on vasy blocker side which is from what I can tell his weak side. The Leafs must know this as the are focusing their shots to that side. Gio's shot on the gwg was a beautiful shot and kerfoot tapped it home. This is a very different squad this year. ROR, Accari, Schenn, and McCabe have all stepped up and added a different dimension to the leafs.

A lot of the goals are screened or tipped... not really vasy fault per say...
The degree of simultaneous joy and dread is what makes this existential crisis extra special.

I don't fear the Leafs, at all. Tampa is running out of gas and Toronto's weakness is defense & goaltending. I'm happy for Steve and hope the Leafs win....but I doubt the Leafs can hold up defensively against that kind of firepower from Boston while simultaneously trying to crack Boston's vaunted defense

I’ve been a fan of this team since 2013 when my uncle dragged me into it without me knowing the situation or history. To this day, this team has brought me nothing but heartaches and panic attacks, and that’s just my experience. My uncle has loved this team since he was a kid so Ik for a fact he’s had a lot of these same cases….
If they do this here and now (and by that I mean in Toronto in 2 days), it will be the thing that I’m sure puts us over everyone else

I was at Game Four with my girlfriend in the Chase Club section. It was her first game ever. Got her a Leafs sweater, and we had to hear it all night. I chirp back, 4-1 lead, we have them right where we want them. 3 goal lead is never safe in playoff hockey. So that moment when we tied and eventually won, priceless. Go Leaf Go chants was loud and proud. Even felt better in the morning wearing my Leafs cap walking downtown today getting coffee. Seem like everyone in Tampa was hungover. Defeated. This team is different. Snooks leadership, this series isn’t coming back to Florida! LFG!

And I thought game 3 was gutsy. This took that and threw it out the damn ship and burned it several times over. Down 4-1, to the back to back to back defending eastern conference champions and former back to back champions in there building and this team has the best goalie in the world. And the leafs win. Like that's absolutely insane. It's unbelievable. Tampa was going for revenge and they came up not only empty but flat out dumbfounded distraught shocked whatever else you can think of

Gosh, I'd love nothing more than the Leafs to close this out on home ice Thursday.
About two months ago, a close college friend of mine unexpectedly passed away. We were friends for close to a decade. It almost felt like we were brothers. We would talk on the hour about anything, even after we graduated five years ago.
He was a huge Leafs fan. He started rooting for them because of how compared to their arch nemesis, the Montreal Canadiens, championship success had come at a scarcity.
He dedicated himself to rooting for them through the brutal years of Randy Carlyle and Peter Horacek, followed by Mike Babcock's hire and the arrivals of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, Morgan Rielly, and others. He was devoted to knowing the players on the team. He was with them through all those playoff heartbreaks of this era, hoping they would one day hoist the Cup.
We often twinned in our Leafs jerseys at college. He would sport Matthews, and I donned Nylander. We often did it for playoff games, but we also just did it for fun. It was such a memorable time I will always look back on fondly.
Now, he can't be here to celebrate it. I'm hoping the Leafs can break through and win it all this year in honor of him. I would like nothing more than to see the Cup come back to Toronto, not even if my Dallas Stars win the Cup. I know it's what my friend would want above all.
