The camouflage of the gaboon viper especially when it is in it's habitat is on another level. I went to a snake park with a group and we were told to try spot the snake. I look for a long time and trust me, I spotted the awkward head thinking that it was a leaf at first but later decided to use it's back as reference. LOL, if it was in the wild I would have been bitten as I said that there is 1 snake but in fact there were 3
I was overjoyed to see my favorite sneks. Their coloration is magnificent. Their geometric patterns are so elegant. The Gabon Viper fools you. They behave so sluggishly, then WHAM! you're in a world of pain. Absolute pain delivered with 2 inch fangs. And that venom will dissolve flesh even if you get to the hospital in time. I don't have a snek hobby, don't collect them. (I like rodents.) If I was so inclined, as well as wealthy, the sneks you covered today in your video would be in my collection. Plus the adders. One of my most interesting trips was to that Watamu snake farm... learned so much and enjoyed handling the rock python with my then 7 year old son ... he adopted a turtle too 😊

Thank you very much! The Inland taipan is the most venomous snake, not the most dangerous (means it bites many people, lives close to them, has potent venom). The Puff adder is a very dangerous snake, the other two species from this video live far away from people.
This video is just amazing, knowledge is power, some people have fear of these peaceful animal, because they think that these snakes always want to bite, snakes they are just defensing them self, for example if someone wants to beat you , you will definitely defend your self the same as snakes.

There’s a video of a guy in South Africa that got bit by a puff adder. It just nicked his thumb and he documented the whole experience. It was insane. His arm swelled up all the way to his shoulder nearly. I also read that it feels like your arm being dipped in boiling oil because of the necrosis. Pretty scary stuff
Yes, you don't want to get bitten by any of these snakes! The pain is terrible and the chance of loosing a finger or an arm even with the usage of antivenom is high.
How common are cross breeds between Gaboon vipers and Rhinoceros vipers? Are their venoms similar enough for anti venom from one kind to work for the other?
It is the first time I see a morph with red in Bitis arietans. A true marvelous variation with this species that it could be so variable. (My prefered morph is the south african one).

In the wild, they are very rare. We are not aware of any study focused on the venom of gabinos (hybrids of these two).

Yes, there is for example the European adder or the Siberian pit viper. There are no rattlesnakes.
