Most sonic games are okay. I just like the 1991-2004 era better. Don't get me wrong colors, generations and unleashed is pretty good games of that era.

The franchise has literally explored dozens of different types and genres of music over its lifespan due to the ups and downs its been through and that's made for a hell of a lot of diverse music(especially with Unleashed since that one spanned multiple cultures across the world).

There's quite a lot of people who contributed to Sonic music, even if the level and variety of talent they collected peaked at Sonic 3 (or potentially the Adventure duo), elements of that still exist today through guest singers from notable bands. How the less famous people keep up the general high quality, without becoming famous like Nobuo Uematsu or Motoi Sakuraba is a bit of a puzzler.
Mario 64 and sunshine do have some cool or calm OST But my god why they had to make the Sonic adventure 1 and 2 OSTs so beyond perfection, each character and stage soundtrack is just so damn well played and don't get me started with E.G.G.M.A.N
