@@spookiezi6845 its honestly all down to what your feeling. Many players play on the highest or better yet Full area. you need to keep practicing and finding what you enjoy rather than just trying to stay on something that your stagnant on. :))
good video !! I will say that the terms "high area" and "low area" confused me because I think people usually just say "big" or "small". but I appreciate the structure and in-depth analysis about aim :D keep it up
8:48 often this is due to reading tho, when on higher ar's you are not comfortable with, you'll try to hit everything you see, with no concern for how clean you're aiming
I’ve found relaxing and trying your best to do it naturally works better, imo, it’s similar to pushing bpm (mostly for streaming, although it’s helped singletapping too). Trying to tense up and force yourself to go faster can work for a burst, but you need to loosen up and let yourself hit the notes rather than mashing your fingers into the keys. Good form makes good play (and less risk of injury!)
im ngl, im a 40k player and i aim snap and always thought it looked so weird and was something that's bad, never realized people like cookiezi do this aswell great video, really liked it!
once i discovered how pacing affected me at 6 digit i was able to do much better, you guys this tip is really important as it also helps you tap the circles in more sync
i'm playing already 6.5 years (started in may of 2015) and whole time suffering from problems with anything, for 6 years of hard play and practice i still just can't hold my pen anyhow (AND MOUSE TOO) but only as usual pen while you writing on paper (AND I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH WRITING TOO, EVEN AFTER 3 YEARS OF DAYCARE, 9 YEARS OF SCHOOL AND 3 YEARS OF COLLEGE), my hands always moving so awful, shaking and weakly, i always need to fix my grip every 5-10 seconds, i never feels comfortable to play, i just hate myself and my physiology and can't find any ways to fix this and escape from this hell, i tried so many areas for this 6 years, and any of them is uncomfortable, i almost can't move my hand, only fingers, so i'm playing on small area, BUT EVEN WITH SMALL AREA I STILL CAN'T MOVE TO THE EDGES OF MY SCREEN (my area is small enough, probably half of what xaver showed in this video on 4:02) and at this moment this is most comfortable area for me, BUT NOT GOOD, and also my pen always slides off from my hand, no matter what, i tried to wrap it with tape and other stuffs, but it doesn't help at all, and sometimes make only worse, and it's so painful to keep playing in this game, hard practicing, spending so many damn hours, hundreds and thousands hours on this game, and not improving completely, i just hate myself and my life, why i deserved this terrible hands?
Hey Man, that really sucks to hear, that sounds honestly terrible, and I really sympathise with you. Osu is a really beautiful game where you can get really good with any playstyle you want, maybe aiming won't be your strong suit but you can be a speed player. I hope your aim improves, can you send over your profile? I'll have a look and see if I can help.
This was surprisingly the most detailed and well thought video ive seen in a while on aim. The explanations are very straight forward and easy to understand. Although i must admit, it felt a tad bit biased towards tablet players, not that its bad thing, but just to note out. 10/10 helped a lot
I've gradually progressed from 1200dpi x0.75 sens to 3200dpi x1.1 and feel quite comfortable so i think part of finding the perfecter perfect sens is just looking at your replays and overall feeling of yourself when playing Feel like you need slightly more speed now that youve gotten better? Then increase your sens See that youre overaiming some stuff? Then consider lowering the sens a little until you're not overaiming stuff
Ye same i started at 1200dpi x1 and realized that i just can't move my mouse far enough the harder the maps got for me so i slowly started to increase my dpi and now i play with 3350dpi x1 which is super comfortable for me
I'm on 3500 CPI 1.0x. Progressed from 3500 0.6x. Though, it goes further back then that since I mainly started working on my aim back during Overwatch days, which I believe I started at 800 DPI but don't remember the sens. Not overaiming anything. Rarely ever misaiming anything. Underaiming is my primary issue, actually... learning how to snap between squares should help though, so I'm going to work on that over the next couple weeks probably. Before this video I thought my aim was just dandy, that it was just my reading, my inability to look at two notes across the screen repeatedly and rapidly without getting dizzy. Now I know it's that I just need to work on my snappiness and I should improve my aim by another level.
1:45 that was the moment i realized i played this game wrong for like 3 years. I started to play like u described on the time stamp and immediately saw improvement
My aim sucked ass for a real long time because I forced myself to learn how to aim with only 727 tablet coordinates on my gaomon tablet but since I've gotten so used to it there's really no point in changing
The epiphany you just gave me. Almost all of my shit misses are from trying to draw a straight line rather than just arching like I naturally moving to the circle.
OMG thanks for the tips on movement snapping. After I started movement snapping, my accuracy increased from ~95% to >99% and I no longer miss from random easy pattern, plus playing osu is waay funner.
I'm still on the point finding my own sensitivity, I still don't know if my aim really sucks. in fact, I can do jumps, but I just over aim them, I think the problem here is the sensitivity and my hand movement. Thank you very much!
for the movement snapping part when I was practicing jumps (this was the time before I started watching more osu videos) I noticed that my aim (in my eyes) was just going up and then down when doing jumps (like my cursor is like jumping jumping)
One of the best aim guides out there if not the best! Keep at it and I hope you will have the time to churn out more educational content such as this :)
im not convinced about the arching thing only because to me it feels like a involuntary lack of angle control when it happens. ironically the curve snap thing i squares i disagree with too. on i find when im able to actually start stop start stop on a square in the straight motion i hit them and when im curve snapping is when i miss them and when it feels unintentional again i dont like that.
btw, you forgot to add that movement snapping and especially arching doesn't apply to mouse because the arching motion already creates a straight line on a mouse.
4:03 if I'm using a tablet area smaller than this and I have since I started playing, should I change it or keep it the same since it's what I'm used to and what I'm comfortable with?
How about diagonal jumps? You said horizontal movement is done with your wrist and vertical with fingers, but do you combine both movement together on diagonal jumps or do you stick with one ? I play on a small area (roughly 5cm wide) and tend to go full wrists movement on any jump when a section goes hard to aim because it is much more precise for me but I still struggle with diagonal this way going for exemple from the lower right to the upper left part of my screen, I just end up moving my fingers as well, often resulting in a shit miss
I tried full area but its not possible unless my hand is not planted on the tablet and i have to move my hand all around the tablet. My tablet area is quite small but I can't seem to use big area cause I can't reach the edges and corners
i always just snapped aim, but it sometimes sucks, as when i try high ar, my movement is so extra, and it goes in 2 circles before goign to the circle, and although i still 300 it, it sucks
i’m on 45mm width area but it’s really comfortable to aim with for me, but would it be a good idea to go bigger to develop better control and hand movement ? if so how long does one stay with the bigger area before reverting back
I found my area by making my area very small and increasing the area until I intuitively understood it and a lot of the way I aim patterns involves using my forearm for basically anything traveling more than a third of the screen, is this bad? I don't really notice many aim issues that aren't just very common at my rank range, just struggling to hit jump angles going upleft/downright naturally and my aim and tapping desyncing when I'm struggling to read (which I don't think is related lol)
Thats totally normal, that motion is super super akward since it combines thumb movement with a combination of wrist and fingers at the same time. I would honestly practice being at the centre of the screen snapping top left then snapping back to middle then bottom right. Use a little bit of elbow movement to move right and down when you go to bottom right and same for top left with left and top.
I’ve actually noticed movement snapping before when I was looking at replays from Shige, Toy, and Vaxei, and I ending up calling it either “old aim” or “Cookie Aim.” For as great of an aim player as he is, I’m kind of annoyed WhiteCat ushered in this era of using it a lot less.
I think area doesnt matter. Everyone uses his comfortable area. I had a small area, I had a pretty good aim but after 6 months the small area got pretty uncomfortable for me, so I'm playing with a bigger one. My aim is still the same, it just needs some time to be used to that area. If you think your area is uncomfortable, change it. edit: I forgot to add one thing. Thank you for the video, it was useful! Edit2: Another thing I forgot to add. It is important to play different kind of maps. Yes, count the farm maps too. I think farm maps keep you to be not rusted. The other maps, like aim control, cross-screen, slider jump maps, just play them. Play them once or twice, and go to another one. Don't waste your time to farm. You won't be able to farm jump maps if you can't aim.
I think most aiming problems come down to grip issues. I can hit some pretty hard jumps but my grip starts to get really uncomfortable and have to re-adjust which in most cases will make me miss. I have a friend that has the same issue with the tablet. He can't fc long maps because he loses his grip mid way through. This is why I prefer stream maps because my grip doesn't get fk'ed as easily. I'm not sure if it's just the old mousepad, the shape of the mouse or my hand is crooked
I actually have a theory that your aim snaps because of how you tap. Think about it, when you tap jumps you tap way harder and uses more wrist movement and your aiming hand also snaps more and vice versa with streams.
