CRAIG!!! Just, wow! That tool is a game changer. Love it. I've been doing HVAC for over 20 years. Could have used this so many times. the one thing I don't like is raw edges. I fold a hem on the bottom of the plenum also, not just a 90. But this was a great video. Thanks.
I've always folded 1" backwards and 3/8 back over with my folding bar. Good video, always hoping to learn a trick to save some time or make stuff easier!
I was about to ask why he did it this way...I was watching and thinking why not make the large 1 inch bend at 90° up and then flip the tool over and make the shorter 3/8 bend 180° down? seems easier but I havent tried either. Good to know Im not the only one
Another awesome video! I've been at it awhile but I'm learning more all the time thanks to you! Your format is perfect and you explain things very well. Thanks!
Watching your videos is like having a trainer right in front of you. You make it look so easy and perfect. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. You’re an Amazing teacher. God bless!!
You can brake your metal using a straight edge and awl or side of flat screw driver . Press down hard and pull scoring the metal. Same principle as the pocket brake . I’ve used this technique for years
Great video. I like how you demonstrated the various backing (grass, carpet, cardboard) for the pocket brake. I did not know of the Pocket Brake. Nice tool. I am particularly interested in your duct making videos. Thank you for sharing.

awesome. that pocket brake looks awesome and fast. would love to see more field work sheet metal. too many use Pittsburgh machines. the way you did the end cap is much cleaner than using S locks. Do you have a Hensley bender for demoing some sheet metal work? Also real world talk about gauges used for new construction and rework - seems 30 gauge is not code but often sold and used, vs 24, 26, 28 gauges.
@Jose Cortez Thanks for your thoughts on the Pocket Brake! Be sure to grab one, so you have it handy. These will be available at your local HVAC wholesaler - Product Number HPB1701
What gauge metal? do you buy a sheet at the local hvac supply? how do you determine the size and volume of the plenum? where is the "pocket brake" available? I googled and the image of that tool does not come up. thanks for the videos
I need to know how to modify return air at the furnace to accept an air filter so the vacuum created sucks the filter tight to the unit. Right now, the filter is in the channel in the unit which allows unfiltered air to bypass and circulate through the house. Not much clearance to replace the filter in the unit due to the unit being placed where the access is facing the so called chimney that vents the CO1. Seems as if no hvac installer wants to waste their time to help out and do some metal work. Not like I’m not willing to pay for the work performed, not like I’ve ever said that’s way too much money for such a small job, I’m a skilled tradesman and know costs, but after watching your video, I feel as though I could do it myself with the correct guidance. AWESOME WORK by the way.
Man I’ve been doing this for 25 years and that pocket break looks to be fantastic! Cant wait to get one! I was going to ask how the hell you handbrake that nice and straight where you want it but then saw you used a straight edge but only use the straight edge on a couple of the breaks. I know the cross breaks aren’t important to keep straight necessarily but the 90° fold for your dimension is.

Joe it was really nice to meet you there! Not sure if I would do a video solely based on that but yeah I remember discussing that whether cutting reliefs or just cutting out sections based on the seams while rolling the metal elbow.
Foil tape can also be used on the supply side to seal a plenum. As far as the Return side, it doesn't matter. These can be constructed with typical construction materials like wood and sheet rock and don't need to be sealed, necessarily. Spent quite a bit of time building supply plenums in New Construction housing. Don't have to do that on the service (diagnostic side) that much at all. I don't like climbing into rafters and working in close-quarters. I have the brain for the service side, so I'm ultimately glad that I'm done with that 'new construction' part of my life.

When you broke the sheet metal on the grass, was that just to simulate field brakes?
Sure. We've all hacked out ductwork out in the field.
Question: If one is planning to install several take-off collars is there still benefit from cross breaking?
