Ooooo. I like the bucking logs. Gonna have to try that!

Thanks! Haha. I see benefits and drawbacks to the system. You can also stake the logs in place and use tie down straps to keep your log from rolling.
      Pros:
-Save the toe of your axe, and gives you a little peace of mind
-Gives the chips somewhere to fall so they aren’t getting in the way of your cut
      Cons:
-Takes energy to get it set up
-raises the log you are bucking, making it difficult to use longer handles
I think it’s worth doing until you start to feel more confident with your accuracy. I don’t get to chop more than a handful of times a year so I don’t like to take chances with damaging nicer axes.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!
I haven’t had much experience with editing, but I try to keep the frame of view moving around and the scenes short to keep it enjoyable to watch. I know it’s hard to watch through the same stuff over and over, especially uncut footage.
      Have a Merry Christmas!

Thanks Kurt! It certainly is a lovely area. One of my favorite camping spots.
The spears are super fun to throw at wooden targets. Tends to be the main leisure activity when I have a friend over.
It’s funny and kind of sad, but any time I tell people I’m into axes they expect that they’re for throwing at targets. I guess that’s the craze today lol.

Awesome spear throwing, would be cool to see a full video of that.

Thanks, yeah I’ll certainly be able to make a good video about those.
Thinking about doing some mini-challenges for entertainment.

What supplier u buy this axe from?

That’s always been my concern with the basque axe. I’d hate for the handle to come loose without any way to tighten it up without a wedge. Cool video sir

I agree it definitely has its flaws, but despite the looseness I see a potential advantage - being able to swap handles.
I’m hoping to get their 29” handle so that I can swap them back and forth. This head weights just under 3 pounds. I think it would be cool to have a longer handle for felling and splitting and this shorter one for bucking.

Nice Work. I guess it technically was a One Tree - One Axe challenge. I think I will try that myself hopefully soon. Really liked your bucking station idea. Raise the log up off the ground enough to protect the axe from hitting the ground and potentially chipping the toe.

Thanks, and yeah I like to use the log stand for that very reason. Took the toe out of one of my axes with a rock that was hidden under the leaves. I’ve been extra careful since. Even with good accuracy that stuff will occasionally happen. In the woods I like to clear all the leaves away from where I’m cutting just to make sure nothing is hiding under there.
I find making a little log yard also helps you collect and make use of the chips.

I can't believe you used the axe to buck up the tree. You lost ALOT of good wood like that. I would have used a saw to make the logs. Less waste.

Sorry to hear you feel that way. I was participating in this year’s cordwood challenge, a group of axe users who process wood only with an axe to improve their skills.
The point is not to acquire the most firewood, but to use an axe to its full capacity.
If I wanted firewood I would have used a saw, yes, but in no way would that have improved my performance with an axe.
Waste is a relative term. It might be waste in terms of firewood, but the chips left behind provide carbon for microbes to digest as food. Ecologically, leaving chips behind is a healthy practice. If I want, I can go back with a bucket to gather the wood chips and use them as kindling.
