I am korean. I never ate a dog except hotdog, and my mom never ate dogs even when going through tough times during the Korean War. There was a specific demographic of men who ate dogs for medicinal and as nutritional supplements as dogs were bred for such purpose. I heard mostly sick people with lung diseases ate them to recover. Of course there are always people even other than Korea that had acquired a specific taste for eating dogs or out of necessity. Anyway, I would not use the word "prevalent in the past" as though dog meat were sold everywhere like beef or chicken because I can attest that was not the case when I was growing up. I never saw any dog meat in the local grocery stores or even open markets through Seoul. You would have had to go to a specific area specializing in such "meat."

The restaurants are easier to find in rural towns, but I've also heard that it was specifically sought after for health benefits of the meat, and that due to the stigma, most people who used to eat it now eat goat meat as a substitute. I've had the goat meat soup, but it's also not very popular or common

@@chrisschumann404 I agree with the OP. As a 2nd gen immigrant in the US I've been teased growing up about the stigma of eating cats and dogs. I asked both my parents, having grown up in the rural area of Sunchang both my parents said they never have nor seen or known anyone that has personally eaten dogs/cats. I asked if my grandmothers or grandfathers had, to which they replied that they don't know. Now to whether you believe me or them is another story. They both know about the stigma of the topic, and have said in the past that they know there is a 'black' market for that kind of thing. If anything I'd assume this would have been more prevalent during the 1800's considering my parents were born in 1930's.

As a korean , except for really old person I haven't met any one under 70 that ate dogs. Somehow lot of westerners think you can go out and get a dog meat like you can get a burger in USA. Most Koreans have aversion to that old tradition and this year they passed a law outlawing it. They gave dog meat trader 3 years to transition from that trade to something else.

That's similar to what I have seen and heard. It's only the oldest generation that even has any experience eating it in the past, and even they barely recall what it tastes like because it wasn't too common of a food in the first place.

Good video, good content, respectfully done.
My one criticism is that when listing k-pop groups you did not put in MY favorite group! (Red Velvet)
Will you do a dating advice vlog as well?

      @@McKavian Valid criticism haha
As for dating advice, I'm definitely not the best to give advice, but maybe I could do a street interview video with some foreigners and/or Koreans.
