- $490 proguitarshop.c... Welcome back to ProGuitarshop.com, where you can find this gem from Gretsch's Electromatic collection, the Pro Jet. The Gretsch G5438 Pro Jet starts with a lightweight chambered basswood body and a maple gold top finish, which contrasts nicely with a walnut stained back and maple neck. Along with recognizable Gretsch styling and flare, the Pro Jet produces a hot rodded sound with their own Black Top Filter'Tron pickups. These mini humbuckers deliver an impressive mix of clarity and body whether you dial it in clean or dirty. Finally, Gretsch gives the G5438 Pro Jet a classic 24.6" scale length and a 12" radius board loaded with 22 medium jumbo frets for your playing enjoyment.
In this 5 and a half minutes I heard way more better music than in one month of entire mainstream radio
and Pedalboards of Doom lol
Andy could make a cigar box sound rad!
Every demo of Andy's I watch is amazing. He was born to play guitar! Well done sir!!!
I have this same guitar with a Bigsby and its one of my favorite guitars. It plays well, comfortable, not too heavy, stays in tune and sounds great. Got mine for $300 used and it was a steal. Quality instrument for the price point!
When I saw this video, I think it's the best guitar ever.
That amp sounds killer.
This might be it! Light hollow basswood. twangy tele cleans and punchy dirt of a les paul! Love at first sight :)
Thank you Andy for teaching me "Last Child."
I LOVE that song, and I love Gretsch, too. :)
2 Rules to success: #1 Start a company that builds guitars or amps or effects. #2 Hire Andy at ANY cost to demo your product. You will probably be rich beyond your wildest dreams. Love it Andy! Keep it coming!
I bought one of these yesterday (I have the black version with a bigsby). After looking around in several shops for six hours, my friend spotted this guitar and I tried it out and knew that this is what I need
True, the wood does not add / influence the magnetic field. That doesn't mean is has no influence to the sound. String-through or not, bolt-on or set-neck, semi-/hollow or solid each don't influence the field. But they influence how the guitar resonates and these movements of the body add to the relative movement of the strings and therefore to the inducted field. And of course different woods have different physical characteristics.
So much for science class today...
I tried explaining the sound differences between a Jaguar, Jazzmaster and Mustang to my Dad. He didn't hear a difference. Keep in mind some people think because they don't hear a difference, there isn't one. When we say tonewood makes some difference, some effects are just subtle. Back to Dad, he heard a difference between a Cobain Jaguar and a Mosrite Ventures. That's much more obvious though.
0:43 We used a Fender Super Sonic 22 and a Lovepedal Kalamazoo Gold for overdrive.
The way Andy plays, he could convince me that a pineapple is the best sounding guitar in the world.
Holy shit ! That sound is super deep. Great pickups
I have the little brother of this guitar (Jet Club) and it's a real joy to play on. It's basically the same as this, but cheaper and only has 1 volume and tone knob.
+Ty Ty Same here. Love it!
IMO theJet Club sounds better than the Pro Jet.I have the G5420 and IMO the blacktops shine most there in a full hollow body, but in a chambered basswood body I think the Gretsch Buckers are better.
I dont agree with you the black tops sound better on solid body. I have the 5420 on loan from L&M to try out and I ab'd them and the 5438 sounds way better than the 5420. For rock no comparison
spada60 sorry cant agree with you,the blacktops in basswood body sound muddy, its no surprise the G5420'is more expensive then the G5438 (made in China)vs G5420( made in Korea).
I believe so. In fact, they should be able to fit TV Jones pickups as well as standard humbuckers depending on the mounting rings you use. I'm pretty sure, but not completely sure, so right before you order I would get PGS on the phone to double check. It shouldn't be a problem though. Peace, and make some noise :)
I got The Pro jet and it is amazing much better than my fender stratocaster.
+Macaw Film I got rid of my Strats... I was a die hard until I got a PRS dc3 and a pro jet lol... Maybe Ill do a tele in the future :)
kandyce gore Teles are pretty good guitars but my favorite is the prop jet
Do you have any problems with tuning & strings breaking?
I'm asking because I'm really interested in buying the Gretsch G5435T Pro Jet Black but I keep seeing a lot of people saying that they have to install a roller bridge to fix this problem. To make things worse, if you install a roller bridge, you'll lose a lot of your tone :/ I really want that guitar!
+ssyynntax I have the guitar you're talking about. Get the guitar and order a part from BricksBiggsfix. Solves all tuning issues. Love mine to death. Also order his squishy spring! God bless
Thank you Sir and God bless you too!
I'm happy with mine got a good chance to try others and it delivers the goods comparable to vastly more expensive builds, good finish and set up holds tune well nice balance and weight. makes me smile
When you find yourself arguing with someone as to whether the type of wood effects electric guitar tone, all you need to do is take it to it's logical conclusion and ask if a Les Paul sounds distinctly different than an ES 335 (example). Because by their reasoning, a 335 is still "holding parts together" as well but exposes the misunderstanding regarding body mass = natural string harmonics and sustain.
Chris Cook to be fair though, 335s and LPs sound fairly similar. You don’t really get into drastically different territory until you pick up an SG
nice alternative to a les paul
or a fender
I have this guitar and it sort of sounds like both but not exactly like either. Still a great guitar though.
Actually, it is Last Child, from Aerosmith's 1976 album Rocks.
I have one of these with a bigsby and they really do sound this great. I was expecting some lackluster pickups but the filtertrons really are great. Such a great guitar. My only complaint is that I paid $750 right when they were released and now the price has dropped to around $500! DAMMIT! I should've waited!
Aerosmith...very nice!
one of the best reviews ,this guy sold me on it as well as another player on youtube
I'm about to take the plunge on a Gretsch Pro Jet. A few more paychecks in and it's going to happen. Good job, Andy.
I actually just came back to re-watch and saw it this time around; d'oh! Thanks though, nice of you to still take the time to reply.
I love this guy's playing!
Very nice demo. Thank you for playing it instead of talking about it like so many other "demo's".
Last Child, baby !
I sold my start and got a hollow body Tele then traded that for a folk and then for this Gretch Pro Jet. I am finally happy.
I still use my PRS's for hard play.
+Kevin Feeney stratocaster
Kevin Feeney I have a Strat, tele, all kinds of PRS from HBII to custom24 but I REALLY want one of these! It seems so damn versatile! I don't need another guitar as I have 15 or more but.... this gretsch has me going wild! Closest thing I have is a PRS vela limited. It's a gretsch type vibe.
I have just bought this Guitar and I am very impressed with it
I own a Gibson Les Paul Standard (2007 model), the pick ups are P90's they sound awesome, The Gretsch Filtertrons are more mellow sounding to my ears
I have one of these. If any of you buy one. change the nut and tuners immediately.
I need a cigarette.
knifeforkandaspoon you need Jesus in your life
If anyone needed a cigarette, it was Jesus.
no kidding,agree
And a towel
@@trueminimalist3962 Don't mock God. The bible says he will not be mocked. Get right with God before it's too late. Don't fall for the lie "I can do it another time, there is no rush"
Would you say this guitar has enough versatillity to cover genres from jazz to hard rock?
41 people are tonedeaf. Andy is the reason I watch this channel!
This has a really nice and bright neck pup.
The new Pro Jets look sweet
Also is the knob on the cutaway a master vol? Thx
Yup! That’s the master volume pot
What song is he playing at the clean section around 2:55?
Okay I'm not gonna lie this video sold me 100%
Thick sound ! Joe Perry would happy to hear that 🎉
Nice looking guitar. Pickups sound pretty good. Not a bad investment for the price. Great playing as usual Andy.
Are these his own riffs? The one starting at 2:27 is amazing, I wish I heard more of that!
perfect profile pic ;)
All I know is that he started off playing last child by Aerosmith in the intro. I'm not sure if the rest are his own, but if that helps at all....
joe perry and brad witford did an awesome job
Depends. If, it's just you and you like the feel and sound, it's fine.
BUT, if you play in a band, the cheap guitars don't cut through. Recording doesn't always matter because you may like the sound. But, a quality American guitar has a better quality control dept. So, when buying a Chinese made guitar, you have to make sure you like the feel. Most people swap out everything, pickups, electronics and tuning keys. Makes a big difference.
OK bud I think you live in La La Land. What do u think ur playing in a 20,000 seat stadium. Most play in small bars mon. Get a hold of urself mon
Thats just the wiring and gretschs in general from my experience, tennesae roses are the same turn down any control and instant muffled loss of high end, I am sure you can change values or put treble bleed mods in though
It's all in the hands. A good player can make a 200.00 Mexican strat sound like a million:) Just like Andy
does anybody know the song at 2:27? it sounds like the beatles or something
As far as I'm aware, they use a Royer R-121, which is pretty faithful and not super colored (*cough*SM57*cough*). Also any halfway decent amp will show up the quality of a guitar. While browsing at shops, I've had to put more than a few guitars back on the shelf after plugging into a halfway decent tube amp.
Hey, you play guitar like anyone ! I've got just one question about the track during 2'50'' to 3'15. Is it an improvisation or a real song ? thanks.
Rock'on
wow, best sounding gretsch ive heard yet!
You make me never wanna play again. If this guy isn’t famous ill never be...
do TV jones pickups fit into this guitar, if I'm swapping the stock pickups?
I think you're right. If not, it's something that sounds really, really similar.
Anyone know the song at 2:27? Its been mentioned, but cant find find it anywhere.
Sounding great Andy rock on!!
They are black top filtertrons. Pretty nice!
Last Child..just a punk in the street...great playing man!
this guy has very good guitar tests
Thanks for playing some classic Areosmith!
The bridge pick up has lots of body, no shrillness. I would be proud to play this Guitar, and the price is so affordable....(impulse buying thought bubble)
Aerosmith 'last child'! Nice! Awesome guitar too!
Your links never work!
To anyone out there who owns both a Gretsch hollowbody with filtertons, and one like this - is there much difference in tone / sound?
3 gibsons lp,sg,lpjr 5 fenders 3 teles,2 strats 2 g&l's A prs .this guitar can almost live with any of them ,it's comfortable plays well and sounds awesome with those pickups, tuners meh,but soundwise versatile and awesome
Great proof that you don't need load of money to have a great sound.
wow, i'm a noob. i was like "this guitar's probably $3000+"... and then I saw the 'electromatic'. pleasantly surprised! sounds great too!
Uh..oh
My Les Paul is jealous!
Outstanding guitar on every level!
This one is from China. You can see pics of the back of the headstock if you do an image search or just cruise ebay.
Could anyone give me a decently detalied answer to the question: How different is the G5435 (with bigsby) compared with i Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet with bigsby?
(there are a couple of evident differences that i noticed, G5435 has 2 more knobs..) but from the productional point of view, are there some differences due to the different time periods in witch the two guitars were constructed? How much does the sound change? Thanks in advance!
Master volume, most Gretsches have them
I'm not seeing any mention of amps/effects (if any) used in these demos. D'you remember what was used and, if possible, could you please include that info in your future videos?
Filtertrons are basically humbuckers in parallel, right?
Cool! I love Classic Aerosmith!
I bought one today with a bigsby for 280 bucks with a case.... Buzzzin
Right on the money, caps lock is HEY MATE STOP YELLING AT ME!
I know you guys usually play through the DRRI anymore when it comes to pedals but what was used for this video? I'd guess a Vox of some sort?
Andy, you just sold me this guitar!
impressive taste and skillz my homie !!
Great demo
thank you for that! i will definatley look into that.
Amazing playing...damn.
Hello , I want chose betwen a fender and a gretsch under 500 and i dont know what to chose . I prefer a stratocaster or a les paul .(i will use it for rock /blues) can u help me?
Well either would do fine, I think this guitar would get you closer to the Les Paul tone because of the humbuckers, but you won't get as much sustain from this as a Les Paul, I don't think so at least, but there's also the Epiphone Les Pauls to look out, you can't go wrong with either, a guy I know has this guitar and I've played it and it plays absolutely amazing. Just go out and try them out! I've never seen this one in stores but if you can take my word for it, it really does play great and sounds pretty good
What a great deal for 5 bones. sheeesh, i'll take one in gold and one in black.
what's the silver thing that is below the strings in the guitar body??
These kick so much ass! I can feel those chambers! I will take the rich tones of the pro jet over (classic) but boring les Paul. That gold is very tasty!
What's the name of the last song?
that was awesome!
Help me, please! I just got my 5435 T and I love it, but the static from the pickguard is terrible, really bad. What can I do?
I have the same problem....... I have the 5435T and I thought I had a ground problem. Havent quite figured out how to get rid of it. My amp is a champion 40
Keep a dryer sheet in your case and give your guitar a wipe down with it before you play. Works well for my sg with the same problem
Take the pick guard off mate. I think they're the worst looking part on any guitar, and on my pretty silver sparkle 5126 with f-holes the pick guard ruins the look so I removed mine 👍
Andy are the Asian filtertrons on par with a custom shop Gretsch? They sound great but so do all your demos :-)
Man! this guy can play
what's the song at 2:30?
Which is this overdrive/distortion?
These are great guitars. I own two, one with bigsby one without. I do like the stop tail piece a little better because the bigsby was hitting my arm when playing but i eventually got used to it. They are great sounding and as of now, affordable. I wouldn't be surprised if they went up in price because they are well worth the money.
Really can't find it in goldtop anymore. Sad day.
Does anyone know what song is he playing at 3:58?
Immigration Song i think
It's not immigrant song lmao
Different pickups, wood, - the rest is cosmetic. Now, the real impact of that on each guitar... you'll have to compare an example of each one of those side by side to know. For a start, mini-humbuckers tend to sound weaker/thinner than "regular" humbuckers.
What's the difference between the G5438 and the G5438T? $549
I bought a G5436t but need help finding a hard case for it. If PGS has one I'd like to purchase it
24.6 inch scale length, so sort of. Compared to strats and teles at least. But it's basically Les Paul scale length.
cool guitar playing
