  • $490 proguitarshop.c... Welcome back to ProGuitarshop.com, where you can find this gem from Gretsch's Electromatic collection, the Pro Jet. The Gretsch G5438 Pro Jet starts with a lightweight chambered basswood body and a maple gold top finish, which contrasts nicely with a walnut stained back and maple neck. Along with recognizable Gretsch styling and flare, the Pro Jet produces a hot rodded sound with their own Black Top Filter'Tron pickups. These mini humbuckers deliver an impressive mix of clarity and body whether you dial it in clean or dirty. Finally, Gretsch gives the G5438 Pro Jet a classic 24.6" scale length and a 12" radius board loaded with 22 medium jumbo frets for your playing enjoyment.

    I have this same guitar with a Bigsby and its one of my favorite guitars. It plays well, comfortable, not too heavy, stays in tune and sounds great. Got mine for $300 used and it was a steal. Quality instrument for the price point!

    True, the wood does not add / influence the magnetic field. That doesn't mean is has no influence to the sound. String-through or not, bolt-on or set-neck, semi-/hollow or solid each don't influence the field. But they influence how the guitar resonates and these movements of the body add to the relative movement of the strings and therefore to the inducted field. And of course different woods have different physical characteristics.
    So much for science class today...

      I tried explaining the sound differences between a Jaguar, Jazzmaster and Mustang to my Dad. He didn't hear a difference. Keep in mind some people think because they don't hear a difference, there isn't one. When we say tonewood makes some difference, some effects are just subtle. Back to Dad, he heard a difference between a Cobain Jaguar and a Mosrite Ventures. That's much more obvious though.

      IMO theJet Club sounds better than the Pro Jet.I have the G5420 and IMO the blacktops shine most there in a full hollow body,but in a chambered basswood body I think the Gretsch Buckers are better.

    • @spada60
      @spada60 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont agree with you the black tops sound better on solid body. I have the 5420 on loan from L&M to try out and I ab'd them and the 5438 sounds way better than the 5420. For rock no comparison

    • @savanaviolenta
      @savanaviolenta 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      spada60 sorry cant agree with you,the blacktops in basswood body sound muddy,its no surprise the G5420'is more expensive then the G5438 (made in China)vs G5420( made in Korea).

    I believe so. In fact, they should be able to fit TV Jones pickups as well as standard humbuckers depending on the mounting rings you use. I'm pretty sure, but not completely sure, so right before you order I would get PGS on the phone to double check. It shouldn't be a problem though. Peace, and make some noise :)

      Do you have any problems with tuning & strings breaking?
      I'm asking because I'm really interested in buying the Gretsch G5435T Pro Jet Black but I keep seeing a lot of people saying that they have to install a roller bridge to fix this problem. To make things worse, if you install a roller bridge, you'll lose a lot of your tone :/ I really want that guitar!

    When you find yourself arguing with someone as to whether the type of wood effects electric guitar tone, all you need to do is take it to it's logical conclusion and ask if a Les Paul sounds distinctly different than an ES 335 (example). Because by their reasoning, a 335 is still "holding parts together" as well but exposes the misunderstanding regarding body mass = natural string harmonics and sustain.

    • @dougthealligator
      @dougthealligator 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Cook to be fair though, 335s and LPs sound fairly similar. You don’t really get into drastically different territory until you pick up an SG

    Depends. If, it's just you and you like the feel and sound, it's fine.
    BUT, if you play in a band, the cheap guitars don't cut through. Recording doesn't always matter because you may like the sound. But, a quality American guitar has a better quality control dept. So, when buying a Chinese made guitar, you have to make sure you like the feel. Most people swap out everything, pickups, electronics and tuning keys. Makes a big difference.

    As far as I'm aware, they use a Royer R-121, which is pretty faithful and not super colored (*cough*SM57*cough*). Also any halfway decent amp will show up the quality of a guitar. While browsing at shops, I've had to put more than a few guitars back on the shelf after plugging into a halfway decent tube amp.

      Well either would do fine, I think this guitar would get you closer to the Les Paul tone because of the humbuckers, but you won't get as much sustain from this as a Les Paul, I don't think so at least, but there's also the Epiphone Les Pauls to look out, you can't go wrong with either, a guy I know has this guitar and I've played it and it plays absolutely amazing. Just go out and try them out! I've never seen this one in stores but if you can take my word for it, it really does play great and sounds pretty good

    Different pickups, wood, - the rest is cosmetic. Now, the real impact of that on each guitar... you'll have to compare an example of each one of those side by side to know. For a start, mini-humbuckers tend to sound weaker/thinner than "regular" humbuckers.

    24.6 inch scale length, so sort of. Compared to strats and teles at least. But it's basically Les Paul scale length.
