    You always feel too young to be the age you are and my wife and I have been married longer than you've been around so we know a lot about what you're going through. Please know that the stuff you're going through now is about the same age for most folks we know around your age. We went through all kinds of stuff around our 30's as well. With a few exceptions that I hope you never have to deal with. The best advice I can give it just stop stressing over everything so much. Viewers, like us, aren't going anywhere so please take the time to take care of yourself. We'll be here waiting to enjoy your next upload when you upload it.
    One suggestion, if you already haven't done it. Have three visible clocks. One for local time, one for family location time, and a third that specifies what time your gaming schedule starts. I'm older, but I still game so that third clock comes in REALLY handy since communicating schedules across time zones gets to be a pain. You may remember doing something similar in the Air Force, and it works great for gamers. Anyway, I hope you and Jun have a wonderful one and I'll shut up now.

    Hi Rachel, I was around 23 when I had an eye problem like you. I did the same exam and I remember they took some cool pictures of my eyeballs and I framed them😊. My doctor said he cannot do anything for me but I want to let you know there is hope. My condition improved when I relaxed. I was under a lot of stress from work. I quit that job and within a short amount of time my condition improved significantly. My eyes have been fine for years. Try to take it easy and try to relax it’ll get better.💖

      Hi Rachel, l understand that you like gaming a lot, but you should ask your doctor about it, because when you play,you put a lot stress to your eyes. You are not alone, l was under a lot of stress and got bell palsy, one side of my face was paralyzed, it was horrible, but thanks to acupuncture and my God almighty, l get better and l am here. Relax, enjoy everything you do, 🤗

      Rachel and Jun yes stress was the biggest factor for me. Try not to look at the sky for me that was the worst. With time it’ll disappear and it won’t bother you anymore. Working too much and having too much stress puts a lot of strain on our bodies. It is pretty scary at first but you will be fine. If I can help in any way let me know. Wish you a nice day, Rachel💖

    Rachel, my health started giving me trouble too and I started feeling like I was aging and it wasn't something I could really change. But eating really clean, sleeping well, staying hydrated, exercising, and reducing stress I feel younger now than I did 5 years ago. Stay positive and don't resign yourself to health problems! Also, I'm happy to see you picking back up a hobby you enjoy so much.:)

    Rachel I empathize a lot with your health issues. I’m 18 and I have two diagnosed chronic illnesses, and a bunch of other symptoms and extreme fatigue that no doctor seems to know how to explain. I’ve always taken care of myself but I have constant anxiety and no way to deal with it so I’m sure that has to do with it. Thankfully I can handle a low energy part time job but living on my own isn’t realistic. I’m hoping for the both of us that we’ll figure out our crappy bodies and be happy and healthy once again soon.

    Dude, Ryzen Threadripper 1950x is some serious hardware! As a bit of a computer geek, I do have a couple of suggestions. If at all possible I would get that computer away from the floor. It's going to suck in a lot of dust (and in your case cat hair) down there. If that's not possible, do make sure to clean the dust filters frequently. Also, it sounds like you're getting a lot of fan noise. With a little tweaking of the fan profiles, you should be able to cut down on the noise.

    • @bcmasur
      @bcmasur 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I love the speedfan program currently v4.52 it's compact, shows temperatures and fan speeds, and SMART hard drive info and testing

    • @RachelandJunAdventures
      @RachelandJunAdventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      I detail vacuum every day so we're doing what we can to keep the cat hair away! I specifically went for a case that had the fewest open slots in the front, and which has a top piece we can put on when we're not using it. And when it's off we put a cover over it.
      The fan noise is because of the way I installed the fans. Recommended quietest installation was to have them under the liquid cooler, but because of the size of my motherboard it didn't fit that way lol. We also set the fans to 100% in the bios when setting it up in order to resolve some possible issue that I don't remember anymore... Anyway, the case has a soundproof top piece we can place on it temporarily if we need it to be quiet while running, but for the most part it only gets noisy when we're rendering a video right now!
      Thanks for your advice!! We're planning on this computer lasting a LONG time so any advice on ways we can lengthen its lifespan is much appreciated!

    • @V4zz33
      @V4zz33 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Some Noctua fans won't hurt in the long run, as you have a traditional case under the desk their colour scheme won't hurt anyone's eyes;)) They can be up to $20 per fan but they are quiet and efficient. I'm using them for 5 years now.

    • @papaquonis
      @papaquonis 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If it only really gets noisy while rendering, the fan profile is probably fine. It should definitely be ramping up the fans during heavy work loads like that.
      Now if you're using the standard fans provided with the case, there could be something to gain from getting more efficient and less noisy fans (like the Noctua fans mentioned here, I am certainly very happy with mine). But yeah, your CPU will still be maxing out for some time during those rendering sessions, so there will be noise no matter what. At least with a workstation processor like that, it'll finish the job much faster.
      So yeah, as long as you're keeping it clean, it should definitely serve you well for years to come.

    I feel you Rachel. When I turned 31 I still felt 20, was very fit and no health problems. Then all of a sudden I got an avalanche of issues over the course of the year after 32. I turn 33 next month and things are finally starting to get better with my body issues. I also had those annoying floaties a few years back and they either went away or I've gotten so used to them that I can't "see" them anymore. Take care of yourself, your body can bounce back. :)

    Hey Rachel, I can relate to having KP as well. I've had it my whole life, all over my legs, arms, and a little on my torso. I remember being self conscious about my skin especially in high school when kids would ask me what the hell was wrong with my skin. It sucked. There is a gold bond cream for red and bumpy skin and while it is *NOT* a cure it does help the skin. Its an exfoliating lotion so you do shed off dry skin but it does help make the red bumps less noticeable, but its always going to be there. I think KP is also hereditary since my mom and Grandma, and Great Grandpa had it.
    I'm sorry for all of the health problems that have been plaguing you, but I hope you have a little better health during the rest of the year. I wish you the best and I look forward to more videos!

    This video was long (which I loved!) but I had several comments, so I wrote them out as numbered points:
    1. I love building furniture too! And organizing things! Is it weird to say that your apartment looks like a dream to clean? lol
    2. Your new computer build sounds awesome! My boyfriend and I built our two computers together and it was so fun. I've been watching a lot more Twitch streamers, so I look forward to seeing you play. I play a lot of games but don't stream (yet?)
    3. My cat became very concerned about Poki's crying #freepoki2018
    4. I have a lot of neck problems too- if you haven't tried kinesiology tape (sometimes called KT Tape or Rock Tape) I highly recommend it for neck and shoulder pain (also works great for gamer's thumb, knee pain, tendinitis, pretty much anything).
    I love seeing you guys back and look forward to more videos in the coming year!

    About the gaming PC, you're so lucky you could get all these parts in the US! Here in Europe it's more expensive so I've been parts hunting following a plan for a budget build (not more than 500€), because I can't afford anything better. C':
    Btw Rachel, if you want to discuss about Oathbringer, Malazan and all, you could check r/Fantasy on Reddit. There's an excellent atmosphere over there, and you can even talk to authors! :D
    (And if I ever get published one day, do you think I could entrust you with the mission of doing a review?)

      +Unruly Crow Computer parts are super expensive here in Japan, too. We actually went to a computer parts store when we got back and I found a lot of the same parts but they were almost twice as expensive!!
      Haha I read /r/Malazan sometimes, but I try to be careful with the threads I pick so I don't spoil anything. Love this series!!
      And I'd be happy to get a copy of your book! I can't promise I'll finish it quickly, but I did read a book one of our viewers wrote last year so I do get around to them at some point, usually.

      Rachel & Jun's Adventures! Aaaah thank you! Well I do hope you'll like it (... If it ever get published, because (among other things) I'm writing it in English, which is not the language in my country, so I'll probably have to reach out to the UK for that lol)!
      And maybe our paths will cross on Reddit! :D
      I forgot to add, but I empathize on the health issues. At 25, it also feels like my body is falling apart (I ended up at the hospital last october (on the day of the results for my Master, at that) and haven't been doing as well as it seems since then (nearly said hello to the hospital again this week). While I mainly joke about truly being an old lady, it's still a bit depressing at times (especially since my father and all his side of the family are counting on me to expend the family, and I'm like "ok I have no social skills (Asperger says hello) and I probably can't have kids anyway because my body is crap"... So yeah, I fully empathize, and as weird as it seems, feel free to pm me about it all.

      4IN14094 Good point, but it depends on the shipping costs. :/ That's why I rely on my country's equivalent of craiglist, to get stuff locally at a low price, even if it's second-hand (as long as it works I'm fine with it. That's also the point of parts hunting for a budget build, eh). Plus I live in the capital, which actually is pretty helpful (for once)!

    I only recently started watching your videos. Normally I do not comment on the videos I watch, but I feel compelled to communicate with you in this case, Rachel. I'm WELL into my 30s, and I definitely remember the sudden feeling of "falling apart" when I was in my late 20s/early 30s. It gets better! There is a lot of anxiety sorrounding getting "older", especially for American women, -- just my opinion there -- but as you get into your 30s, SOMEHOW, things just seems to fall into place! Your confidence will go through the roof, your outlook will be bright, you will feel empowered by your age rather than hendered. Trust me! It's truly a magical thing. You just wake up one day, and suddenly, you're AWAKE. Like, truly aware, truly at peace, truly YOURSELF. Also, I hear your quick, one sentence comment about not being able to have children. This is what truly compelled me to speak to you. I felt like you just quickly threw that in there, so it seemed just a passing thought. But, it stuck out to me like "a sore thumb". LOL. I, feel your pain on that subject, as well. I had uterine cancer at the age of 28, resulting in a hysterectomy. I'm fighting back tears as I write this, but it is such a struggle! It shakes you to your core. It is our very human nature, our primal instinct even, to desire to reproduce with our ... (Cont...)

    What a timely video Rachel! I just had a pilar cyst removed from the top of my scalp last week and the stitches removed this week! I also get the little bumps on the back of my arms. As for your ears, google Menere's Disease and see if your symptoms relate. I have that. The ringing in my ears comes and goes, and I sometimes have severe hearing loss in one or both of my ears, and sometimes, rarely, I get severe vertigo that drops me to the ground for hours. Thankfully that part doesn't happen much. But it all started with weird ringing/fullness/buzzing in my ears. It feels like I'm underwater or in a muffled box. So weird.
    Good luck with all your new ventures! Glad to see you guys updating again! My son and I are hoping for another Jun's Kitchen video soon!

    After becoming legally blind, I miss those (unrelated) "floaters". You will eventually learn to ignore them, and your eyes and brain will start to compensate.
    I'm 24: Legally blind, infertile due to celiac disease and endometriosis, lost 85% of my sense of smell, need a double knee replacement already, and have severe asthma. The longer you have health problems, the better you start compensating for them. You tend to forget them after a while. You are a far stronger and more resourceful person than I ever was, you will be fine within 2 years, as insane as that may sound now.

    Woot! I'm so glad to hear you'll be producing gaming content again. I loved your playthrough of that Emperor Doel game and was always hoping you'd finish it. I was sad when you unlinked your gaming channel from your other TH-cam channels and figured you had made a conscious decision to take your brand in a different direction. I rationalized it on the grounds that there are lots of people who make gaming content I like, but nobody does videos quite like you and Jun, so I told myself that it was a good thing you were finding a niche of your own. Honestly, though, I'm psyched for the return of gaming!
    9:06 I know all too well that look of desperation and insanity when you realize you have a zillion things to move around and no space to actually make the moving possible. =P
    Also, I am 35 and I can relate so much to the "I'm old halp gaaaah!!!" shenanigans that our bodies start to pull on us as we leave our 20s behind. Sadly it just does not get any better; it only gets worse. I guess this is what the mean about "aging with grace." We just have to find a way to humble ourselves and live with it. It certainly helps explain why so much of our storytelling focuses on youth and coming of age.
    I don't comment much but I love your vids! Life has its ups and downs but I hope you're happy on the whole, and I will see you next time.

    A friend of mine over there had the same sudden floaters and it turned out to be a detached retina. It's a quick surgical fix - with frickin' lasers - but yeah, they're in there for good. I've never heard of an exam like that. Maybe your eye doc is just really into A Clockwork Orange? I'm also at risk thanks to my lousy eyesight. This drug can cause permanent eye damage so I have to get these crazy eye exams done every.single.year! So the tests that I will be getting done are the formal dry eyes evaluation, tbut, schirmer's, flourescein, lissamine, and rose bengal. Meanwhile, my eyes are so sensitive that I can't put any type of eye make up on or watch my husband put his contacts in!! I also have those damn floaters so I am sure they will say something about this too lol Sending many hugs to you! People have always called it 'chickenskin' where I'm from - but if you use a lotion from Gold Bond Rough and Bumpy (a really unfortunate name), every day, it works AMAZINGLY. I'm 35. It's all down hill, I can tell you. I also have all sorts of eye and ear problems. They started about 5-10 years ago, so I'm starting to get used to my body falling apart... It sucks, but what can you do (except the usual, eat healthily and exercise). Anyway, I wish more people talked about how it feels to "start ageing". I mean, I feel like if I complain about it, some grandma will come out of the bushes and tell me I'm not old yet at all. And yes, sure, that's true in a way. But I feel like it's an unsettling experience nonetheless when you first start feeling like you're actually getting old. It's new and it's scary. Also, I still don't have kids and I'm starting to feel like I might never have them. I'm not super passionate about having one, but it's still a strange feeling. I've taken it for granted for so long that "I'll have kids and a family at some point when that happens, if I feel like it", but my sell/use-by date is looming closer and there's not a whole lot of time left. :/
    Added: PS. I had an ophthalmoscopy done some while back and it turns out I have a lot of veins in my eyeground. They said not to worry about it since everything else was normal. Not sure if that's why, but I have light-sensitivity and migraines and often get all sorts of weird eye symptoms, dots of light, different kinds of phosphenes, scotoma... Anyway, FUN. (not) :p

      hey, I have no right to tell you this since I'm still in my teen years and am not experiencing what you are currently, but it seems like your ageing is affecting your mental health negatively (I hope I'm not being too presumptuous here, this is what I concluded from your comment). While there's not much you can do with your physical body ageing (aside from what you mentioned, eating right, exercising), I believe you can do your mental health some good and maintain a positive outlook on life. Try to find something you enjoy, find a hobby, try new things you've never done before. There could be something you find that you never knew you could enjoy so much. You say you don't have much time left, well then all the more to try to live your life to the fullest! If you give up hope now, you may truly age into a "grandma" and regret not doing things you wanted to in your earlier years. You say you're pass your "use by date", but I believe no such thing exists, maybe I'm being naive, but we meet new people everyday and you never know what each day might bring you. If you finally find someone to settle down and have a child with, congrats. But while having a family DOES bring joy to many, I don't think you MUST have one to be happy. Like you said, you aren't too passionate to have a child and I don't think you should feel pressured to have a family. My auntie is 37, unmarried, and living life the way she wants to like the badass she is. It's your life, you can just find happiness in the little things or as I've said, going out and finding new things to do, it could be hiking, gardening, socialising, anything really. :)

But as I said, I do appreciate you taking the time to write such a lengthy reply. My sell-by date comment refers to reproductive health and I am currently experiencing the thing that most refer to as your biological clock ticking. It is a scientific fact that a woman's reproductive health starts declining somewhere around 35, although there are of course exceptions and a lot of women are still fertile even well into their 40s. But there is an actual moment where I will no longer be able to get pregnant at all and it's not all that far ahead. I may not be as enthused about having a load of kids, but I also haven't ruled it out and lately I've felt like maybe I want at least one. So it scares me that I might end up running out of time. I would have to give you half of my life story to explain all the things that are getting in the way of me just getting a kid, but trust me, I have reasons and I'm trying to deal with them. I am at that point in my life where I wish I had more time to figure out if I'm OK just not having a child, or if I really really want one. But I don't have the luxury of wasting more time getting to that decision. It's a huge decision to get a kid and I hate feeling like I have to rush. I also don't want to regret not doing more when I had the chance. It's a tricky thing. As for getting old in other ways than kid-related, I feel like it's about having to face your mortality. I suppose it's a common thing to think about for most people and some people have to deal with it more than others (some young people have to deal with serious illnesses and I feel like that's similar), but it does suck the more you realise that your body is just slowly dying off now. The more symptoms you get, the more you are reminded of it. Anyway, I hope this explanation clears it up a little bit.

      Oh, and also, I feel like maybe I'm missing out on something important if I don't have a child. It's not so much about whether having a child and/or a family will make me happy or not, because I feel like that's not what those people are for (they're not there to make me happy) and I think happiness is overrated in the first place. I just wonder if having a child is something I'd want to experience. I mean, there are a lot of people who don't want kids and aren't interested in the experience (it's not important for them) and that's completely fine. I am just wondering if I want it. It sucks to be unsure. I wish I had more time to figure it out... :/

    Given I'm a 21 year old now and have had eye problems since I was about 2-4 AND I had surgery on my ear in 2017 I suggest if you haven't already see a specialist! My primary Doctor kept giving me antibiotics for my ear which did not solve the problem, they actually missed the fact my ear was busting and reheeling to the point it made me have hearing loss exactly how you described (except my ear would bleed in the past) but seeing that it's a common problem I highly suggest to get as many opinions as possible !!! I can relate to my health being similar, most of my sense other than touch and taste are drastically dulled

I am in Japanese Classes But your channels help a ton with learning (Since you guys switch in and out of English and speak really good English) I told my teacher about it and now Every Wednesday we watch your videos! Could you make like a Japanese Learning Channel! Where you guys teach basic Japanese. It would be super helpful.

    Happy belated birthday Rachel. My birthday is on the 13th. I’ll be 29 as well. I’m excited to see your gaming on twitch and TH-cam. I hope your ears and eyes feel better soon. I’ve had okay eyes all my life so I know what you mean about the floaters in the eyes. Let us know about the finished apartment. I love re ranging and moving stuff around once in a while. Those cat beds are so cute. Take care.

    I don't mean to pry, but where on your neck does it hurt? If it's at the base of your head, it might be your sub-occipital muscles. You might need to work on your back muscles, or make sure you aren't jutting your head forward. People tend to do that when they're on the computer or playing videogames a lot. By jutting your head forward, you're putting strain on muscles that aren't supposed to be the main support muscles. Just a thought :)

      +Emily Stokes Yeah, I know it's my back/neck muscles. Last year I spent six months with daily headaches until yoga and glasses fixed things. Stopped the yoga in the fall because we had too much to do and now my body is stiff and my posture is bad again. I'm back to doing it regularly again but it takes a little while to fully limber up and build back up muscle!

      Rachel & Jun's Adventures! I might have to try yoga. I was in a car accident and messed up my neck. I went to PT and learned a few things that helped a lot. Hope I didn't offend, sound rude, or sound as though I knew more than you! If I did I'm sorry about that. Hopefully you feel better soon ^-^

      +Emily Stokes Not at all! We learn a lot from our viewers (because there's always someone who knows more about something we were talking about than we did).
      And I recommend it! It's been really good for helping me relax my muscles and fix my posture. Muscle building depends on if you do some of the more exercisey yoga but they have things to help with that too. Mostly it's just a great way to relax your mind and body!

      Rachel & Jun's Adventures! What do you use for yoga? Do you watch things like TH-cam videos? Or do you go for classes?

    • @RachelandJunAdventures
      @RachelandJunAdventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      vmg15 Yoga with Adriene!! She's WONDERFUL. She's very relaxing, great at explaining somewhat unexplainable concepts (like "send out energy through your fingertips" when you're stretching with arms outstretched, as a way of helping you get a feel for active stretching), and she makes you feel happy and content in your own body no matter what your poses are like or whether you can do all the stretches or not.
      She has a couple 30 day challenges, which is a good place to start if you have no idea what to do, but once you get into it you can also just go with how your body is feeling that day because she has routines for everything. Like routines to give you energy in the morning, routines if you feel sick, if you have a headache, if you just want to stretch, if you want to relax for bedtime, etc...

    Glad to see you back, and glad to see you had a long good time with your family in America. If you want high humidity... Florida is always an option, but we do get somewhat cold, and you still get static... So no escaping it. I built my own PC too, and I think you will find that they seem to work better than store assembled ones. They can also be easier to fix. Those cats are so super cute. Giver her a sword and shield... she is in the middle ages now :D
    Come to the end of the video and that took a dark turn, but I know your pain. I am 38, and I have had a medical thing all my life. It never really showed much of the normal symptoms, and I fall down stairs and all these things keep going wrong.... So I completely get the seeing everything on you body fail at one time... WE WILL SURVIVE!! I just booked a hotel in Tokyo, and currently planning a trip to see Kyoto as well.. I owe some of that you two for inspiring me to want to visit. I am super excited.

    I hope you are feeling better, for things like that its good to know about your family history if you have any concerns about what might happen in the future. And sometimes floaters do go away, or at least become less noticeable. From my experience anyway, and I hear you with that eye test. The good news is, if its done how mine was, if you have no changes and it stabilizes, you won't have to go back as often to the eye doctor.

Stay strong, be kind to yourself and maybe try meditation if you haven't already.
