  • NYC recently used a public school as an emergency shelter for asylum seekers. Parents were upset, but the city says it had no choice… was this the right decision?

Why don’t AMERICAN HOMELESS have the right to shelter law?
Every person agreeing with this madness should be forced to take a family into their home…including the politicians that caused this catastrophe.

"Right to shelter" should not include people here illegally. That's insane. That basically opens up any city to the cost of housing the world. And why is it this "right" to be housed in luxury hotels/free everything ONLY apply to illegals? Americans in NYC aren't being put up in hotels with maid service, free food, free everything.

Some of these kids turn up at schools like this at age 8 or 9 and by then the damage done to them is not fully repairable even in an ideal world. If language centers in the brain aren't fostered early then they may never rise to functional fluency. This is seen in small numbers in NC.

yeah but these are all legal immigrants from my understanding
and no, if you can read, the right to shelter laws were put for immigrants. Matter of fact, USCIS specifically invited immigrants over, saying "if you need shelter, please come"
You cant blame the immigrants for taking their word. Blame your gov, and black crime, which is whats really responsible for emptying the coffins from NYC. Black crime is what forced hundreds of businesses move out from NYC in 2022-2024, which stretched the taxes thin. Even without these immigrants, NYC was going to go into a serious recession, the immigrants just exacerbated the issue of lack of income in 2022-onwards

“Right to shelter law” is pseudo moralism for a government endorsed immigrant invasion. Ask yourself, why does the government want so immigrants in its country? Is it profitable for the government somehow? How would massive amounts of poor immigrants benefit our economy society? When the government answers these questions, listen very closely.

They don't understand that without a home it is just about impossible to get a job or to stay healthy & rested enough to keep a job. And then there is whatever trauma led to your homelessness, that has to be dealt with somehow. They also do not understand depression, grief, illness, injury or addiction. They seem to think that you can "just get over it". We both know that one day they'll get knocked down hard and then they will learn if they survive long enough.
We really ought to look at how homelessness is dealt with in Amsterdam. Their system actually works, and if they can afford to do it we can afford to do it. After I bet if you actually analyze the net effect on society and the economy the cost of treating homelessness the way Amsterdam does is actually negative. That is to say that the cost of the system is less than the benefit of returns to the economy. The benefits to their society is just the icing on the cake.
But what we have here is a system that costs a huge amount of money and doesn't seem to return much if any benefit to the economy or to society, and any benefits that do occur are pretty much ignored.

A lot of them are. I'm very connected to this whole situation and most are claiming asylum. But, most will be removed from the USA because they have weak asylum claims. According to the INA laws all they have to do is get to the border and cross over and as soon as they do all they have to say is that they are in fear for their lives and will be deleted if they return back to their country. That alone grants them permission under the "Unauthorized Aliens" under a claim of asylum. Their removal from the country is then banned so they can't be removed. They then have 1 year to setup their first court date and can be in the USA with permission to work & attend school and to bring their families along with them for I've seen some all the way until 2030 some cases are being extended to.
They are technically here illegal aka "Unauthorized" meaning they haven't been granted formal access into the USA but the Secretary of Homeland Security grants them a ban of removal so they under that clause they are here technically by following the law which is why a lot are allowed to work and attend school while they wait the result of their asylum claim.

We all learned that we are not priority, we just pay the bills and then are pushed aside. NYC made a grave mistake with these immigrants. They were first housed in four star hotels. There was not a thing I could do to help him, as I was on my bus, going the opposite direction. Location is more than an hour from my home. This is the first time I have seen him on that corner. He may have recently begun to struggle and become homeless. Temperature outside was maybe 20 degrees. This man should be getting help from our state. And… Americans who have been on Medicaid are now getting cut off, for no reason no explanation. How?! I was recently sent a renewal form for Medicaid for myself and my child, I work but do not make enough to afford benefits, they approved me the last few years just fine then all of a sudden I am told I have to PAY for Medicaid from the marketplace, mind you my situation is the same, I have a health condition I need monthly medication for that cost about $600 without insurance and my visits are $180 out of pocket. I have petitioned over and over and I am ignored and told I have to pay $70 per month for basic medical insurance and it barely covers my medications now I can barely afford my bills because my rent money is now going to my health. We as Americans shouldn’t have to choose between our health or shelter especially when these benefits are being handed out to illegal immigrants! I am still petitioning and fighting this but in the meantime until they pay attention to my requests to explain why this is happening and to have my case heard, I have to pay tons of money out of pocket just so I literally don’t die. I don’t understand how this is happening. I’m not kidding when I tell you they IGNORE me and just send me the same generic letters of denial and there is no one to talk to on the phone. They don’t even look at my paperwork, I know this because they denied my minor child with the reason stating “Person is not a caregiver for a child under 18” ummm he is under 18! He is a minor child! I don’t understand this, it’s not ok. But if I was illegal I would be handed healthcare with no questions asked? Come on!

When Covid was happening overrides were placed as to not close people out, but things are returning back to what it used be. Also, you did get an explaination as to why your benefits changed. By law the state is obligated to send you notice. If everything is the same you can always appeal the decision. So please stop over exaggerating & complaining not everyone had it easy as to be eligible for benefits. Be grateful.

I am Latino but third generation so really I’m just American. I have a friend that is from Mexico seeking asylum here. His English isn’t the best but he’s my friend so I try to help him when I can. I found a government assisted hospital to help people with low income to get seen medically. I went there with him as we both wanted that. The guy working the front desk had a heavy Mexican accent and asked for my I.d then told me that if I wanted to be a client there I needed to bring in 2 forms of I.D, a birth certificate, a piece of mail proving where I lived, and the latest 2 check stubs from my current job and that I had to fill out some paperwork. Obviously I didn’t have all that on me but I obliged and sat back down to fill out paperwork. Then my friend went up to the counter and they were both talking in Spanish when he came back he said he was going to get seen today for a check up. He told them he was from Mexico and is here for asylum and the guy asked if he was working but my friend said not yet. (Which was a lie because he was but whatever) and the guy said okay and told him to fill out the application and that he can be seen that day. Just like that. I was fuming mad. I was really pissed off because I have to bring in ALL that stuff just to maybe be approved to be a client there and he was just approved. just like that. I was so mad that I went to go sit in my car until he was done. When you say foreigners get better treatment in this country. In our own country. you’re not wrong.

They already disrespected American laws by illegally crossing into the US, instead of waiting across the border for their asylum claims to be reviewed (just like every single immigrant that wants to enter the US, must do).
Then they seriously protested against moving into another shelter, because they wanted to continue living at a luxury hotel, for free. They’re seriously acting like it’s their right for New York government to pay for their accommodations at a luxury hotel.
