+weaselsdawg Agreed. My favorite was fight pit 4 (crazy that was almost two years ago) when everyone else got kicked out of the venue and it was just them playing grand finals and wife and husband commentating. They just seemed to be having a good time.
jerrrrr I love to see people have fun because it reminds you why people love this game so much. Even the best players who are competing for a prize pool can still love and enjoy the game.
the layout and transitions on this stream were super clean, with the replay feature and stuff. It's really impressive and makes for a good viewing experience. I wish it was this smooth and seamless in 5 Gods as they seemed to have a few little technical stuff-ups
People are talking as if Mew2King totally sucks at Melee now; yeah, he's slipped a little, but he still managed top 8 at a pretty stacked event while barely even practicing. That's still a great performance, better than he even did at Genesis.
You can clearly tell smash 4 has effected m2k.

+Eric K. It is just all those years of melee (mainly fox) has worn his hands down to the point that he doesn't want to play/practice melee as much anymore. So he has been spending more time on smash 4. He seems overall more happy so I think it was the right choice.

It was not Smash 4. You dont forget basic skills by switching games. It is because of his hand damage.
Btw, don't expect M2K to do well in Melee in 2016. He said that he was gonna only practice Smash 4 but he will still play Melee tournaments

he seemed to do pretty well at Evo for how stacked the only upset was plup placing higher but tbh I'd say plup will fill in m2ks place when m2k retires in the future

I feel like everytime Mango plays Armada its exciting because he has to play on point to beat him and always forces Mango to bring out the best in him otherwise he wont stand a chance. But its also exciting to watch Mango play M2K because they always seemed relaxed playing each other and really let loose and they really let out some cool stuff and do the honor stocks, etc.

Of course playing too much smash 4 is going to affect m2k, they are two completely separate games. I watched hbox playing smash 4 and he had to put his tag to not melee, and he was still trying to do melee stuff.
Also the fact that mew2king hand hurts when playing melee and he only plays melee at tournaments. Despite all of that though he's still getting top 8 top 16 so

The thing is, playing smash 4 shouldn't be making someone forget basic principles. There is no way he forgot that up tilt at 20% is a bad idea. There's no way he thinks he should be pummeling at 0%. Oh well, I guess there's always next time...

+Lethal Pichu he never up-tilted at 20%; the lowest was at 27%. also, he always pummels at 0% and gets away with it. doing those things, in and of themselves, are not bad ideas. it was the context in which he did it that showed they were bad choices.

Just as a reminder for everyone that watched Paragon and claimed that M2K choked in the last game. I remember everyone saying that M2K should have just down tilted to keep Mango off of the stage after his side B. However, you can see that a down tilt does NOT always work against a side as you can see at 3:20. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Ken introduced me to Marth, and M2K made me explore Marth. M2K's always been one of my favorite players and one of the reason I main Marth. But it sucks to see him not do as good anymore and will probably never win a national again. now its only Armada (who is one of my favorites as well) and hungrybox who are the only 1 einning tournament, Maybe Leffen and Mango with a possibility of winning too. but outside of that. PPMD and M2K probably wont win anymore because they dont practice as much as the others now.

Would take them way fewer man hours.
It would be so sick to use Melee tech skill with Cloud and Bayonetta.
+nahor88 Sakurai doesn't want smash to be as competitive as melee was, that's why they changed airdodges on brawl (and they also reduced traction when characters touch the ground, there's quite some changes but i dunno them all)
It sucks seeing M2K lose like this in Melee. Especially against Mango, who he mostly has really close matches with.

Well this match was pretty closeish.
I feel that m2k had plenty of opportunities to get percentage on Mango with chain grabs, but he kept failing to convert after the grabs in two different ways. 1. He kept jabbing in grab at early percents, Mango was able to mash out of it and m2k failed to adapt to this issue. 2. Up-tilting in the 20s disrupted the chain grabs and prevented m2k from getting more percentage and even stocks.

M2K was definitely playing differently here. Granted, it's only relatively recently that I've started watching him, but the early pummels, the up-tilts at low percents, and the counter and the Dancing Blade he threw out in neutral in game 1 definitely weren't things I've seen him do often before. He still played pretty well despite all that, just he could have done so much better.
+Antifrost I think that he's always done the early pummels from what i've seen. He also has used counter quite a bit in the past. Dancing Blade is really the only move of what you listed that he rarely uses.

It looked exaclty like how marth would be played in Sm4sh. He used dancing blade as if mango would get chained in it like in 4. Also his up throws i think he was uptilting because in 4 you can air dodge alot quicker so i feel like he was used to that and was making sure he would get a hit completely forgetting mango has more time to fall and he could regrab. Its obvious m2k is investing his techs in sm4sh and im ok with that. We need more big names.

That is a pretty logical explanation, but has M2K played Marth in Sm4sh? I know that he said he wouldn't play Shiek because it could mess up his Melee Shiek, and since he also mains Marth, I figured the same would apply.

I'm a smash 4 player and never owned melee, but could someone tell me how you could sometimes tech spikes and sometimes not?
You can tech a spike if you DI towards the wall and tech it there . There's also meteor canceling , not sure if that's what you're referring to though .
Jeramehl Yeah, that's what I meant, That always happens with Falcon's down air, but with falco and marth they always die. Why can't you meteor cancel those?
+Nicky Lam In Smash 4, all meteor smashes can't be meteor cancelled-if they send you down, you can't stop (unless you tech of the wall but that's a different thing altogether). In melee, it's not so clear cut. Some moves which send you down are spikes such as Marth's dair and Falco's dair. Spikes will send you down no matter what. But other moves, like Falcon's dair, are meteor smashes, and can be meteor cancelled to stop your descent, but you need to be pretty quick.

Man, Melee is so frantic in tournaments, it is fun to see but not much a of pleasure to play.

Hummm, nope. There is little joy in playing like that. It would be equivalent to be a guitar player doing crazy solos all the time, it can look and feel rad but there it will miss many other possiiblites that are more relaxed.

In my opinion think the only reason m2k also plays smash 4 is because he just needs the money. It's the Only way he can get money.

it's so hard to to switch between smash 4 and melee because they are just soo different.
Whenever i play smash 4 for too long melee starts to feel clunky, and then when i play melee for too long smash 4 starts to feel gross and disgusting.. it's a weird trade.

I don't think its just a game. From the right perspective smash, or competitive fighting games in general can be viewed as a life style. I've put alot time into smash and I've met so many great people at tourneys and smashfests that i kinda owe my life to smash. so yeah xD

I think it's cuz melee is tighter with character control. Like you really have to know what you're doing in order to perform well.
Smash 4 just feels slippery and strange when making the switch.

Blur's commentary was very annoying to me this set. UPTILT UPTILT UPTILT. That's all he had to say. Calm down dude, M2K def wasn't at his best here, we realize that. You don't need to keep repeating it, I guess you have nothing else to say.

the only thing that's a BLUR is his vision!! i was annoyed at how much the commentator blur kept exaggerating just how early m2k's up-tilts were.
m2k never up-tilted in the 'early 20s';
at 7:42, it was 28%;
at 8:29, it was 27%;
at 9:19, it was 32%;
and at 11:07, 30%-the 32% one, blur even said was done "at 20 percent"!!
the last two were bad because utilt was not the correct choice given mango's DI, which was non-existent. the first two could've continued it if mango didn't DI into marth after the utilt; all marth mains who chaingrab know that at as low as 24%, utilt on fox/falco (when behind) can lead into a regrab if they don't DI into marth after the utilt. if they do, there's not enough time to do anything but watch them hit the ground. you can see m2k realise this on the second one where he's just waiting to begin dash-dancing/tech-chasing. that said, it's not the best choice.
the commentary was also off about the so-called "early" pummels. m2k always does that. you can pummel a level 9 at 2% once before throwing, provided you don't delay (and we all know about their superhuman mashing). the error here is not early pummeling, but it was m2k's failure to adapt to mango mashing out. it's painfully obvious to all-mango, especially-that all m2k wants is the grab. he gets so much off of one grab that he may as well be playing ICs, so of course mango will be ready to mash as soon as grabbed. apparently, m2k wasn't thinking. both his tech and mindgame were not on point this set.
rewatching this, I think some of those utilts could've led to regrabs if m2k stayed facing the same way from utilt to regrab.
also that for the last one, a turnaround utilt seems it would've work

The guy keeps saying he's up tilting at 20 and needs to be doing it in the thirties. But in game 4 his uptilts were always when Mango was at 30% or more and it still didn't chain. So why does he keep saying that? Keep in mind i know virtually nothing about melee besides what I learned when I was playing when it first came out for a year or so

This e-sports commentary is putting me to fucking sleep. It's M2K vs Mango (GODS OF THE DAMN GAME) and all these talking cot-mobiles are doing is annotating each move they use. "Oh and he gets the grab" "Ugh he drops it" "Good phantasm height". Yeah no shit, this isn't cricket and you aren't broadcasting on a radio. We can SEEEEE it.
And don't get me started on these corny ass instant replays.
