    Preaching to the choir here. That's why I angle my amp (I use a smaller guitar stand to prop it at a precise angle to my ears) and I'm a mid range guy. Still working to tweak mid range frequencies on the board to occupy a single space rather than being buried by vocalists and keys, but you're right. This is a great starting point.

    Thing you for your advice, I am at my witts end with the way I sound. When I’m in the studio I sound great but as soon as I play live I get lost in the mix. So, I’m going to try to implement your solutions. I’ll hit you back after my next gig, this weekend.

    It's all good advice. I went from a 4x12 to a 2x12 combo because I had stopped gigging. Later when I started back with a band I bought an amp stand and angled it. Perfect! On mids? I recently discovered how much punchier my guitar sound is with more mids. I basically did it by accident and was really impressed how good my overall tone sounded. Amazing what new things your ears hear even when you have been playing for well over 30 years.

    This man have a point, and you should accept it as a fact. But I will add something to that, forget that you are individual who standing alone on stage, because if you are in the band than you are just a part of bigger picture, so your ego (which is must to have, otherwise you wouldn't be able to do music) have to back out, because I'll say it again you are the part of the team who expressing feelings, emotions, speaking language of frequency, THE MUSIC... We all been there as musicians, had a same problem, but not all of us had opportunity to have someone to give as a piece of advice that is so true about playing music like this one, but like I said put a side your ego for your own good and try it, and most important thing is to give it a time to get use to new sound, try to adapt to it, your play stile, your way of hearing sound and you gonna love it... Love you all good people and keep on progressing and learning music, it's a long, good, never ending ride...

    Great video!! It is a battle getting some guitar player to not scoop mids, or at least to not boost their low end. I think it is normal for players to want that CHUNK! They should be bass players. We have video taped from FOH with mids scooped and with them where they should be and guitar players are usually surprised how much better they sound with a good LIVE sound. My band has upgraded to in ear monitors which really helps. At one particular club we are able to turn stage amps completely around shooting to back corners of stage. Sound guy has much more control and with in ears players don't have any problem hearing themselves.

      right on Todd - yeah, try cranking the kids a bit and perhaps turn down the gain a little and see how that helps. @@rockongoodpeople Last two gigs were awesome! My rig sounded great and I cut through perfectly. I really just adjusted the Bass, Mids and Treble and kept the gain in check. More Mids did it. The other Guitar Player said I was too loud. With a reaction like that, you know I'm on the right track.

    Yup, the advice on GAIN is spot on. Past a certain point you lose body and definition of sound. Fluffy, mushy sound does not cut! Might sound great when you are standing next to it, but it becomes a lame sound out front. Some over the top pre-amp gain structures on modern amps are designed to sound like what you want to hear at home, but they hold your amp and speakers back in alive setting. The Truth! A "Bigger" sound is a "Better" sound live. Don't starve your speakers.

    I’m always surprised how each gig / venue requires me to tweak the amp differently. Last gig I had to really pull back the gain, boost the mids but also lower the channel volume and increase the master. Getting the most out of the preamp and power stage was a balancing act.

    • @rockongoodpeople
      @rockongoodpeople  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello and thank u for watching this video and for ur kind words - really appreciated. As far as pedals just keep an eye on the mids adjustments if they have any on the pedals as u want to keep those kids in there like on the amp. Put overdrives or distortion pedals before the amp as that will drive the amp harder and make it punchier in my opinion. Give that a try. Great video, never surprised by how much I dislike my home tone, only to love it live! I gig with a 2x12 which I now have on an amp stand - amp sits beneath it on the floor- looks weird- sounds AWESOME!!!!!

    Greetings sir!
    May I humbly check this with you?
    I read this articles somewhere suggesting that dealing with high gain tone its good to turn up the treble and roll back the bass?
    My mid is at 4 o’clock already:)
    I hope to hear from you soon:)
    Regards
    Alex G.

      Hi Alex and thank you for checking out this video. Its hard to come up with general settings that work across every amp - a lot depends on the amp itself but generally if you want to cut through more in the mix I suggest turning up the mids as one thing you can try and turning down the gain a little. Also - yes, it many modern amps if the bass is set too high the sound is more goofy and less punchy - not as tight - so lower on the bass - but again, a lot depends on your amp so you have to experiment. You can up the treble but be careful your tone does not get too shrill and trebly - hope this helps - take care and stay tuned as I have lots more killer content and lessons coming soon. And please SUBSCRIBE to the channel. Take care and have a rocking day!

      Thank you Martin! I've tried all kinds of amps on stage, and struggle to be heard. Our singer plays a Tele on a lower volume, and I can hear his tone really clear. I've googled through the Net for Guitars that cut through the mix, but the hits are all about amps and EQ settings. I'm sure it's the dark tone of my guitar that's impeding me.

      This is a serious problm for distorted guitar, not a clean tone issue.Clean tone are easiest to cut through

      Fenders period, but a Telecasters cut through the loudest of the muddy mix.

    When I play live and it’s time for my solo I can’t seem to hear it, even with a eq, how can boost my solos for metal guitar?

    • @rockongoodpeople
      @rockongoodpeople  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi - there are a few different ways to boost your volume for solos. You can use a boost pedal. Many companies make these and you can adjust the amount of decibels or boost, some even have added gain that you can add. The EP booster is a popular one as well as the Fulltone boost pedal. Many companies make them and they work great - some are just clean boost where they do nothing but boost the level of your signal - some can add gain. You can also put an overdrive or distortion pedal in front of your amp and with the level control adjustments use it to boost your signal. Many players use a tube screamer or pedal in front of the amp to do this as it pushes the amp a little and will give you that boost but may add some noise depending on the pedal. Try some of these ideas and see what sounds best to your ears and what works best for your playing situation. Stay tuned for more great content and please subscribe to the channel - have a great day! -David T, Next Level Guitar Inc.

    You forgot to say one thing... : don't stay in the front close of the cab !!! I've experienced that with the mids pushed I couldn't hear anything but my guitar.

    Excellent video! When you say crank up those mids... you mean 10? 9? 8?

    • @rockongoodpeople
      @rockongoodpeople  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Jose and thanks for watching our lessons. When I say crank up the kids I mean crank them up more than what you have them set at before - and more if you are getting lost in the mix - so if you normally have your kids set live on 3 - try them on 7 or 8 and see how the difference sounds. Keep up all that hard work and keep rocking on that guitar. And please subscribe to the channel. Take care and rock oN! -David T, Next Level Guitar Inc

    you just described why Marshall's are the goto live amp, because the mids aren't scooped, unlike most other popular amps.

      David Willis, I'm not saying no one plays Marshalls. Obviously, Marshall has many famous endorsees. But I go see a lot of small-medium rock and metal bands, and almost none of them play Marshalls. Therefore, in my experience, I don't think it's accurate to label Marshall as the go-to live amp.

      @hellodumplings8564 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Willis it’s no the amps which scoop mids, people do. With the right EQ any amp should be able to get at least a hearable and decent tone

      rockongoodpeople I'm looking into buying my first pair of decent reference monitors. Is krk one of the better brands? I was looking at the krk vxt8, but I'm not sure all the differences between the different series. I just picked a good mic and will pick up mixing board soon. I wasn't sure what speakers to get. Maybe I could go with the 5" monitor and still sound ok.

    • @rockongoodpeople
      @rockongoodpeople  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest I have had these KRKs a long time and they have served me very well and I have never had a problem with them. But I have been out of the monitor buying mode so I am not familiar with all the new brands/models out in the market today. I would suggest reading some online reviews or maybe checking out some audio based forums for more info. Sorry I can't be more help on this one. Take care and keep on rocking! -David T, NLG

      @@FLOODOFSINS KRK monitors aren't ideal as studio monitors because they sound so good. they make everything sound good instead of getting that flat sound that you need for mixing audio
