    Idk if you have but you should do a full length video on how you produce. Audio interface you use, DAW, tips for recording etc.

    It REALLY cuts through the mix! Translation: It feels like NEEDLES through my eardrums!

      @Louzahsol 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Pretty much. You should be able to be heard without it sounding like an icepick

      in a good way?

    • @davidjorgensen877

      The final example he settled on illustrates the opposite. My rule is, ignore whatever sounds awesome on its own, because it will likely just sound like mud in the mix. The solution is not to treble-it up till your ears bleed, it's to isolate the frequencies left open by the rest of the ensemble and then claim that space. So for rhythmically driven genres (i.e., most popular music), mix the rhythm section first to ensure it delivers the desired level of gut-punch, then EQ your leads (guitar/vocal/flugel horn, etc.) into whatever spaces remain available. It's all about finding those frequency openings and creating balance across the spectrum.

    • @PierceThirlen2
      @PierceThirlen2 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@davidjorgensen877 Or perhaps there is too much going on in the arrangement and you need to simplify it so that you don't need to adulterate the instruments essential to the song. Over-production is one of the most common sins in studio recordings. F Phil Spector and his "wall of sound"!

    • @davidjorgensen877
      @davidjorgensen877 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PierceThirlen2 "Or perhaps there is too much going on in the arrangement" - Of course that's a possibility. However, suggesting that Spector sucks or that cutting through the mix means "ear needles" is a superficial analysis, as there are countless brilliant exceptions. It's up to each artist to create and convey their own sonic vision, and the tools and techniques to do it exist. My advice is to learn as many as possible and then keep what best works for you. It seems you've made your choices ... cool. But that's in no way the hardcore recipe for every artist out there.
      "Over-production is one of the most common sins in studio recordings" - Which doesn't negate the advice I provided. I don't care if you have three instruments or a hundred, you still need to find the sonic space for each part of the arrangement. EQ the elements that drive the song, then find the space for your leads to shine in and around that - it works.

    Could you please make a video on different pick ups and how they affect the tone. I'm new to gear and am trying to find a sound of my own. Which types of pick ups are suitable for which genres and how to know what is best suitable for you. I'm looking for another guitar on a budget and where I live guitar stores are very few and far away and have very little variety so I can't really go and try stuff out to see what works for me.

      If you don’t mind the lack of hum cancelling, P-90s are versatile. I have a Reverend Jetstream 390, which if you dial it in right can sound like a strat, a tele and a (noisy) Les Paul, since Reverend has 2 tone controls, the usual hi-cut, and a bass contour.
      He has a video on here showing that there really is no “one guitar” for rock, one for country, one for blues, jazz, metal, etc.”

    Overdrive and just recently tried it out at a gig, and I could not get it to cut through the band mix. Thankfully I kept my MXR Super Badass Distortion on the board and it got me through the gig. I see that you are using a parametric eq here. Would a Boss GE7 get the same results? I have one those.
