If the Cubs want to compete next year we need a 3rd baseman that can rake. Also a DH that puts fear into the opposing team. Also have to have a Catcher that hits because the rest of regulars other than 3 guys , can't be relied on

I'm not trading Justin Steele period! This guy is an ace, a leader, and everything that you would want at the top of your rotation. We should trade position players from our big league roster. It's the lack of offense they provide that is holding the team back. I want to see the kids come up and play. I doubt the offense would be any worse than it is now. Plus, the experience they get this year should help them in 2025.

Other than Busch , we don't have any position players ( rookies ) that can be counted on to hit. Also we allegedly have a top 3 Farm but I wouldn't bet any of the them will be an offensive threat.

Trading Steele would be the worst move in Cubs history but knowing Jed Hoyer anything is possible with this idiot. Pitching has been great, Hoyer should have tried to pick up a bat or two instead of throwing in the towel, and the players know that. The guy needs to be fired now.

  • @gregthegroove
    @gregthegroove 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I gotta tell you. I’d say at least 20 something teams in the MLB would kill for the starting pitching (and lately BP) Cubs have. To waste this would be criminal. Forget what prospects you get back. The offense needs fixing. Leave the starting pitching alone. Go deal prospects to get 2 stars. Completes stars. You can’t assume and leave the rotation to Imanaga and 4 rookies essentially? What are we kidding here? These guys aren’t proven!!!!!!!!!!!! Ben Brown, Jordan Wicks, Imanaga and who else? If they give up Taillon & Steele? 😂😂😂😂😂

The offense is terrible. It's not the starting pitching and the bullpen. The offense isn't producing the runs. Starting pitching does it job keeping games close and the bullpen does it job not giving up more runs. Offense isn't doing it's job giving the pitching run support. Nuff said.

I doubt Steele is available. Maybe if 2-3 already in MLB guys were offered but doubtful anyone would do that in 2024. The path to 2025 really isnt very clear to me with existing players already under contract and the prospects coming up which the cubs probably wont block or trade.
Doubt the cubs trade Seiya with their japan opening series now and his no trade. Cody's 30m for next year will make him tough to trade unless cub pay up.
Look at Yanks they have 2 studs in Soto, Judge, and Cole is back and they are a mess. The Mariners have a stud pitching staff and a lousy lineup making them fringe in a short series at best.
Maybe if Ricketts allowed Jed to blow past the tax they could buy their way into it but we know thats doubtful. Are they going to punt on Assad Wicks Brown + Horton in the rotation to sign FAs?
They could load up on the bullpen but we know that RPs are volatile, so that could backfire too.
If you look at the org depth chart on a spreadsheet view its really hard to thread to needle to being good based on who's available and who we're stuck with.
Then when the prospects arrive its a wait and see how long it will take them to be good, so 2025 looks like a developmental year hoping guys become better?
PCA, Swanson, Catcher, Nico are non impact hitters
Busch Happ Seiya Belly are good not great
Morel is a talent but not good yet
It would also stink to trade some of these young bats and miss out on a great player for many years in their prime because good but not great players are in their way.
Jed made our bed, and we the have fans suffer...wait still 2026, hopefully

The Cubs didn't acquire any big bats in the off season. They didn't spend. They wasted 40 million on this manager. They might have the BEST starting pitching in MLB. Just one clutch bat and they'd be in this. Whoever made Swanson their franchise player should've been fired. PCA is not a good player, I couldn't say all that if I was born a Cub fan. Who would have thought Morel would be a better defensive than offensive player. The GM is terrible and now he's trusted for trades. NO way.

Watched Jim Bowden discuss Cubs on Foul Territory. Everyone should hear his take. Do you know how hard it is to assemble a good starting staff? You don’t trade a starter!!! They’re all back next year. He criticized Jed for not making the small moves necessary to improve. Where were Cubs when Royals got Hunter Harvey? Why hasn’t he picked up Diaz from CO? Marlins are waiting for offers on everyone! He stressed small moves that improve the team rather than dreaming on big moves. But Jed has whiffed on those too! He also said publicly announcing you’re selling is not very smart. Current players and fans deserve to see some direction for improvement, not just standing pat then publicly announcing a fire sale. I’m not a Bowden fan but he was dead on. He also said Cin & Pitt are way ahead of cubs in building a winner and Milwaukee made Counsell, Counsell didn’t make them.

The bigger question is Dansby and Belli contracts. Those are both looking bad. I would trade Taillon and many others. Re-tool now and bring up the kids. Sign a legit star player or two like Freddie Freeman quality. Build like the Phillies. Key dudes that can carry a team. Build around that. Not Dansby Swanson.

Disagree… we should trade prospects for PROVEN MLB players especially stars like Vlad w power! Look at PCA he is proving to be nothing but speedster and great defender… noodle bat. Most likely 75% of our top prospects won’t amount to the hype. Sorry, been talking about them for years. I’m tired of losing and not making the playoffs. The Cubs can spend if they want and invest in the right players . The FO has failed miserably. This team is one of the most unlikeable in my adult life.
