      Her dad's language skills are impressive. 👍🤩I have met so many people who are married to a local and living in Asia and they can't speak the local language. 🤓 This family is a great role model for multicultural families as they successfully managed to pass down their cultural heritage to their children.

    Hey!! I’m French and the part about the steak is a cliché because in Paris the waiters would usually ask you how you want your steak to be cooked

    Just want to add an precision about the 'Chambre de bonne' your dad says: They used to be small room dedicated to the maids. they are just under the roof, at 6th or 7th level, only around 9 square meters, and usually NO own toilet, kitchen and so on, and you have to use an 'Escalier de service' at the side of building to go there, never from the main entrance.
    Often seen on old building of 19th century, when a 'bourgeois' family hire several maids for years long, they put them there: 'Separation des classes'
    On the modern day HK, the equivalent will be "Room for Philippine Maid"

    • @loveisreal6367
      @loveisreal6367 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's funny because I never thought we were more quiet but that some other people like americans or spanish people are too (really really TOO) loud xD ! But yeah, I suppose for them we seems to quiet, question de point de vue (how can we say that in english ? "That depend on which side of the way you are" or simply "that depend how you see things" ? I don't know, sorry, hope I'm understable). By the way, it's not that french people don't like it when people don't speak french, it's only that we are really bad language learners ! (Yes... I would prefer the fact that we are only snob people but... it's the real explanation) (Most of french people will be agree to say that English courses are always soooo boring in France urh... but maybe it also because French language is kind of hard to learn even for us and when you finally speak french correctly, you can't stand another language learning, like a kind of trauma xD, it's possible). So, the majority of people in France can't speak english at all. It's not that they are snob and want people to speak only their language, it's just it's annoying them because they can't speak with you. And what french people do when they are annoyed ? Yeah, they can be rude, that's not a cliché xD. But most of the new generation seems to be better in english because of american series haha so maybe this cliché will despear in twenty or thirty years because people will be able to speak english in France xD.)

    • @loveisreal6367
      @loveisreal6367 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That really depend of the job and its social class because most of the "poor people" begin work around 5 am and 8h30 am in France...so most of the french people 🤔. Then, most of people who begin work around 8h30 and 9h30 am are middle class people's job and if you begin later it's rare and surely because you have a "good job", which mean you are in the rich middle class or rich class and can have some liberty with your schedule. The exception is when you are a part time worker, you can begin anytime. There are some exceptions but it's really like that.

    French can be relaxed but... an agency in Paris would never open at 10:30 ! Some people I know working in the same field are already in the office at 7 am...
    And the restaurant thing...
    customer is king but expected to be polite. That being said in my 30 years of existence I have never seen a chef bring back the food claiming it’s correct, especially regarding the cooking of the meat WTF

    • @loveisreal6367

    so to come back to the steak. In restaurant in France when order meat they will always ask you if how much cooked you want you steak, some people like almost raw we call that : bleu, some people like it still a little bit more cooked but still pink inside it's call : saignant and people like it very well cooked it's call : à point. Not everybody is ordering a steak with a chef suggestions. You will have the choice so this is not a fact

    • @xouxoful
      @xouxoful 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In some high end restaurants, the waiter will not give you the choice about the meat cooking, because the chef decided it’s supposed to be eaten this way. This would never happen in a small bistrot or local brasserie, though!

    French choosing cigarette over food IS TRUE. Born and raised in France, usually schoolmates used to buy cigarettes and smoke them instead of grabbing lunch during lunch break. A lot of them actually use the money their parents give them for food, to buy cigarettes. And when I say that, it’s not only one person :(

    • @gabii8403
      @gabii8403 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      (Also born & raised in France) Actually it really depends... Don’t make it something usual when it is not. Some will definetely take a cigarette break even by the worst weather outside. But the case you are describing is an extreme case scenario. Brefff dans tous les cas c’est triste :/

    It's interesting that your dad liked it.
    I suppose maybe having been out of France for so long, anything to do with it on tv he's probably going to like. I disagree with him on the first point. Yes he is right when he says people might not like it in a work setting might not like if you just start speaking english, and that should be the case. However, I could not imagine a french person getting up and leaving because of it.
    French people nowadays seem to have no problem speaking english.
    Its actually become a complaint by people coming to france to practice french that its so difficult because French people will respond in english.
