1:01 This chime sounds like you’re about to leave the country by plane, it’s used well since it’s for airport bound, been to singapore to celebrate birthday and mostly used the mrt, no taxi, no bus
Here are my opinions on it: - Adapting the music from local folk songs was an excellent way to make it feel unique to Singapore. - I really like the adoption of 2 melodies for each line, with each used to indicate a direction/destination that the train is going to. - However, it seems strange that for the North-South Line, the mellow version was used for the Southbound instead of the Northbound side, since the northern part of the line is mostly residential areas while the southern part is the Central Business District. The mellow chime seems a better fit for the Northbound side. - Also, the Circle Line's melodies usage of chimes (and this time of the year when they started the trial) made me think it was a Christmas-themed melody. But overall, as someone who loves train melodies, this is a really exciting initiative, and I hope it stays!
First time hearing these on recent trip. The CG Tanah Merah gave a weiry traveller so much comfort. Some of the others are a bit infantilising. But I love the new approach well done Singapore!

i was able to record directly from the speaker so you can take a look from the video on my channel ! but it is a little cut off at the front cuz i recorded at nicoll highway
These melodies are part of a pilot by SMRT to test their effectiveness in guiding commuters with visual impairments. Hence, it's only being tested out at a few stations, rather than at all stations. I do hope it will be rolled out to all stations though!
Now that 三轮车 is played as one of the new MRT chimes, you can hear the actual song in this link: th-cam.com/video/Cx0xB8H3cz8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4Y2Tlvt6hGtZT1tH This classic children's soundtrack will be familiar to S'poreans who grew up in the 80s-90s. Anyone can remember, especially those who had cassettes or CDs?

Ya lor. DTL could make do with 80s non-NDP local song 😂
@@yasukoh2277 SBS Transit owns the remainder but TEL and the future CRL. The LTA will have to ask them if it's fine with them to add such.

Maybe cause the Downtown and CBD gives off the Monday blues of work.... while going home is happy hence the happier music :)
The Chan Mali Chan is actually quite decent and could be easily recognisable

Singapore is going in all the right directions.
Wish Sydney Metro could implement something like this...
correction:
Version a of CMC plays for DB and MB bound trains while version B plays for stadium and harbourfront bound trains
Actually, the version B is only played when it announces the destination of the train so it's only heard for Stadium bound trains

Who, in the right frame of mind, would want to have the chimes played at stops? So next, are they going to extend it to bus transport?
This is one of the WORST additions to public transport since making Lush Green the default colour on all Public Buses
