right, Gary was still the star here. In a few years with the ballads Kevin turns into the star. Of course we all know what happened to our frets for breakfast Gary turned into. I think the vast commercial success was just too much for him. REO was pretty much an underground band before Kevin got with them. He is great front man and a showman as well as an incredible vocalist with a very strong work ethic towards health first and music second. Strong contrast between he and Gary. I still feel that he stole Gary's band from him. It's a double edged sword. I still love this music though. I grew up on it. 157 Riverside Avenue long before Kevin came along.
Gary is having SO much fun playing to the crowd on "Flying Turkey Trot". I mean, the guitar work is A++ on its own, but the showmanship is another + or two, for sure.
Been around for a while. If you listen to this whole thing from beginning to end, I guarantee you you will never find a better guitar player than Gary anywhere as far as I'm concerned I've heard them all. How can anybody say he's not the best.
One of the best and most underrated lead guitarists of all time. I've heard the so-called greats duplicated, but I've never heard anyone duplicate "fingers of steel" Gary Richrath! RIP Gary! You are missed down here more than you could possibly know! The fingers of steel was said by a guitar teacher when a student said that he wanted to play like Gary! He said good luck, because that guy must have fingers of steel!
Early version of "Say You Love Me Or Say Goodnight" with different lyrics. Pretty cool! Always wondered why there isn't any footage of REO on the tour that was recorded for live album?
Prefer his guitar playing over Eddie Van Halen's any day. This for me was the real REO --- To this day, I think their 1977 live album is hard to beat, and given the Rock'n'Roll music landscape at the time, that is saying something.
REO Speedwagon used to be a smokin' hot r&r band in early 70's, then Kevin Cronin decided they should play to make top 40 hits, and then he wanted to look like Andy Warhol ! They never got a dime of my money after 1979
Watching Gary live was as good as listening to him play. No one sounds like Gary!!!
For me, this is the golden age of REO.
Same...
Agreed, but Philbin should have been playing bass.

@@monmixer that's a pretty good assessment. I'm actually friends with Terry Luttrell so I'm into the really early REO stuff
Long live Gary Richrath!
Gary, you're the best , R.i.p.!
Love it!!! RIP Gary Richrath!
Had no idea they were opening act on this tour..wow. Richrath was a monster player.

Gary connected with us in the audience and we fed off each other! It was magic.
Great Video right around the time they were gelling after Gary brought Kevin let me steal your band back Boy REO Rocked then
You’ve got that right!! Then Kevin couldn’t say enough good about him after he died. Dirty rotten Bastard!
Remember, nobody plays the guitar like Gary, nobody
Now this is the REO I really love to listen to. Great find.
I love these songs & love Gary.
They were such an excellent live band, thanks for posting 🤍
Wow. That was amazing. Thanks for posting. Cant say enough about gary. Lost interest in reo after gary left.
Gary rocks, I wonder were his guitars ended up. Should be some place special.
Richrath is a Rock God
REO at its best !!
Richrath is off the charts, here!!!! OH MY GOODNESS!! Total WALL OF SOUND!! Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saw them live in Milwaukee county stadium 60,000 in 1977 was amazing 🤩 Gary stoled the show was a guitar 🎸 clinic..

Underated for sure!!
Long Live Gary Richrath
Why Gary is never mentioned as being one of the all time best guitarists is beyond me! In my book he was and always will be number one!!
Gary's band and kev kept him in the corner, in the dark most of the time.
Band stealing spotlight hog. They never should have hired him the 2nd time.
Cronin...
I love how they All jam out with each other like BROTHERS.#! Nice🎼🎸🎶😉

I was 13 then and so in love with Gary, until this day 😍He was everything when he played!!!
Nice post, nice pic of Gary.
Noticed Skynyrd's Billy Powell standing in the background and watching REO play at one point.
Allen collins is also over there to ! 🤘
Have to tell youg ones .REO.did rock and roll.😢
Gary is on fire!!! This is great!! Thank you!
Saw REO 1980,Davenport Iowa 🎼🎶🎵🎸👍👍👍
Wow this is rare!! Thank you so much for posting and sharing.
Thanks for watching !
More REO stuff coming
Love the early version of "Say you love me or say goodnight". Never heard that before.

Wow! This is incredible footage!!
I think T.W.O was some of the bands best work 👍🏼
Absolutely!
Yes!! 👍 By far!!
Great concert by REO and little video from this time period.
Like You Do,
Say You Love Me,
Gary's Guitar Solo,
Riding the Storm Out
Great audio mix!
This was a month after the Super Bowl of rock concert at Solider Field in Chicago.
Neil Dougherty and Gary Richrath people !
Neil Doughty but yes I agree
Wow!!
Nice!
You got that right!
Even then, Gary was in the dark. Taking Cronin back was his biggest mistake. Dude stole his band
Before Kevin destroyed the sound of the band!
So where might Selland be? I don’t suppose it would be Fresno. Anyone ? My neighbors nephew is Richraths replacement. Just so you all know
I feel bad for your neighbor's nephew. Nobody really replaces Gary.
Dave Amato from nugent band?
FKC This was Gary's band. FKC.
FU KC! Can’t stand him.
You got that right. FU, KC!
Is there a full version of this available? Id love to see the full set

Is there any more to this show?
I’m afraid this video is all i can find.
Cronin was already a spotlight hog.
And a thief! He stole Gary’s band. I can’t forgive him for that.😡
8 days after Elvis died.
What's the setlist for this concert.
Kevin Cronin's voice always held that band together. They are still touring in 2023. Always keep push in and roll with the changes
