The first time I ever saw him was when he played "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock. 😮 I have to edit because I want you to know that that was me.. jaw on the floor. Alvin is definitely one of my all time favorites.
The great slide guitar work of George Harrison. Alvin Lee even tones down his playing to fit the mood of That Beautiful Slide. One of my all time favorites. Thank you.
One of the greatest guitarist our generation ever heard. His years with Ten Years After were legend. I put him in that special catagory of axemen w/ Rory Gallager, Prince, Billy Gibons, Jimi, Carlos Santana, Gary Moore, Jeff Beck and even today's Joe Bonamassa.
Alvin Lee is definitely one of Blues Greats but has often been overlooked and underrated. I am a blues guitarist and it surprises me how many other blues guitarists that I know have not heard of him. By the way, it's OK to let a tear flow. I am a 6ft 250lb man and I cannot get through listening to or playing this song without tears flowing. The guitar work just pierces through and rips at your heart.
I'm 67 years old and I was Totally blessed to be In the Era of the Greatest Music ever made . I GREW Up listening to this stuff. I can that.feel the Groove that I did when I first heard this music ..Elvis was master guitar player .and song composer . Thank you for sharing. This.once again. Great to hear. It.again.
I really enjoyed seeing you react to Alvin Lee's most overlooked song. And kudos to George Harrison on slide guitar. This song hit me right between the eyes!
Thank you for reviewing Alvin Lee - The Bluest Blues. I was there in 1969 at the old Red Sox stadium, where 25 of the greatest bands of that era played over the weekend. Alvin Lee and Ten Years After were the opening band. Such an amazing performance!
So glad you did this, Alvin Lee ( and his band "Ten Years After" ) seem to be much overlooked. Alvin never seems to get a mention in Greatest Guitarists lists but for me he has to be at least included in the conversation. I have as much a prejudiced musical ear as everyone else and my goto guitar players all emerged from the glorious decade of the early sixties / early seventies from the UK, they are not necessarily the greatest but they were all pretty unique in their playing styles - Hank Marvin, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Peter Green, Paul Kossoff, Jimi Hendrix ( honorary Brit), David Gilmour, Alvin Lee, Albert Lee, Robert Fripp, Richard Thompon and I'm sure there are others that my aged brain has forgootton. Love your reactions you beautiful lady.
Alvin Lee was a super fav guitarist/singer of mine after he released "I'd love to change the world" and " I'm goin home" from Woodstock. RIP Alvin. Thx Rogue :)
"Words can't describe the feelings..." words can't describe how deeply I agree. If aliens ever decide to contact us lowly humans, it'll be because of a song like The Bluest Blues, not through some stupid speech by a politician. The aliens will land their mothership on the White House lawn and say, "Bring us your best blues singers & musicians...the men & women who have designed & perfected the guitar...maybe the surviving Beatles..." You know what I mean. If they ever decide to help out humanity, it'll be to save the music we create, not for our cruel instincts & our inbred stupidity.
Love this song!! Great choice. Alvin Lee is such a good guitarist. And, we get to listen along with one of the prettiest smiles on the internet too?!! Woooo! Now we're cookin' with bacon!! 😃
YEAH !! ALVIN LEE AND GEORGE HARRISON TOGETHER ON THIS GREAT HEART STRING PULLING BLUES SONG!! ALVIN HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN MY TOP 5 TASTY ROCK AND BLUES GUITAR PLAYERSHE SCORCHED AT WOODSTOCK AND THIS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF A DEEP EMOTIONALLY LADEN BLUES SONG THAT EXEMPLIFIES THE FORM IN A TRUELY PURE HEART FORM. THIS IS MY FIRST VISIT TO YOUR SITE, AND I LOVED WATCHING YOUR FACIAL EXPRESSIONS AND HAND MOVEMENTS IN RESPONSE TO THE VARIOUS PASSAGES, YOU ARE SO IMMERSED EMOTIONALLY IN THE SONG THAT YOUR MOVEMENTS BECOME AN EXTENSION AND PHYSICAL REPRESENTATION OR INTERPETATION OF THE EMOTIONAL CONTENT OF THE SONG, I AM 71 NOW AND A GUITAR PLAYER AND I STILL CANNOT GET THAT GREAT TONE THAT ALVIN SEEMS TO BRING FROM THE CORE OF HIS BEING...SOMETIMES I WILL GET A FEW NOTES THAT APPROACH THIS SOUGHT AFTER TONAL PLATAU IF ONLY FOR A FEW SECONDS, BUT DURING THOSE SECONDS I FEEL TRANSPORTED TO A HIGHER REALM OF CONSCIONESS ( sic) AND GET TO FEEL IF ONLY FOR A FEW MOMENTS THE CELESTIAL HARMONY THAT MUSIC CAN DELIVER. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!
I consider this song as the perfect blues song. Use to see Ten Years After every time they come through Atlanta. One of the best of the best. May you R.I.P. Alvin Lee
The BEST Melodic Blues: Slide guitar, pinch harmonics, powerful lead lines, great percussion and keyboard pads-Awesome! By the way, George Harrison played the slide guitar. "While their guitars gently weep"
The All Time Great Alvin Lee,andTen Years After exploded into my Rock and Blues World in 1969 At Woodstock, Baby Please Don't Go, and here now here some 50 years later, I just heard The Man, The Blues Guitar Virtuoso, Playing The Best Blues I Ever heard from Him, What a Tribute to Alvin Lee and The Bluest Blue's of Blues Rock,Man what A Blues feeling From A Great Rock Blues Guitar Virtuoso Playing his Heart out and into Legend💙 Warthog
I've played congas wih the man, back in 1983, not far from the Thames river. Reading Festival. Blowing off some steam. Blowing other stuff too. Nice guy, really. And a more than decent guitar player. Fuck yeah.
Love that piece....I was so fortunate to have seen him live in a small rural cinema in Switzerland and when one of his strings broke, he fixed it live on stage and then kept playing. He deserved a so much bigger audience, but his performance was unbelievable for the 300 or so people in the room...Still getting goose bumps when I listen to the 'bluest blues'. RIP Alvin and thank you for the music!
There is JOY in the blues and it was written all over your face. As a young man in the 70's I heard BB King's "Thrill Is Gone" and my life forever change. Yes, I love most every genre of music. But in most modern music of 20th century was born of the blues. Never in my wildest imagination did I ever think this song would become a reaction but you not only did it justice you gave it GRACE. Thank You! The light from your smile/soul would illuminate anyone's darkest day. It does mine every time I chance by!!!
Alan Young was the drummer that clearly impressed you so much. His work did really add a lot to the song. And George Harrison's slide guitar playing is in a way similar to what Duane Allman's slide guitar playing did for "Layla." In both cases the slide guitar work 'fit' perfectly and added so very much feeling and emotion. Being 67 years old something I really love is seeing people from later generations who are not familiar with the work of so many of the greatest of the greats of the past but then discover them and be so highly impressed by them. I always felt that Alvin Lee was very underrated. He had the misfortune to come along when there were so many extremely talented guitarists that while as good or better than many he got somewhat lost in the mix and overshadowed. Alvin had a wide variety of those who influenced him. When he was 12 years old he met the great Big Bill Broonzy. Like many Chuck Berry was a big influence. Jazz was also a big influence on Alvin, especially Django Reinhardt who as a child had his left had severely burned in a fire and could only play with three fingers, but relearned how to play the guitar and explored and created new harmonies and was fantastic. A lot went into 'the making of Alvin Lee' and it really shows in much of his work, especially in "The Bluest Blues."
I can`t believe, that I did not know this song, so much emotion, both guitars play so intense, with their bare souls, but you are right, behind every emotional song is a sad story... I must admit, I really like your reactions on such great songs, did not know, that people are actually reacting on songs online, but surprisingly I like it...Keep up your emotional work, it is appreciated.
The first concert I went to was in 1972 ten years after and zz top opened...i was a fan ever since...alvin Lee is The Man....please listen to Ten Years After Live....one of best live albums ever....luv your reaction to this number....thanks....
Never heard this song until today. WOW. Huge fan of Harrison. Touched on Ten Years After in the early 70's but then they slipped under my radar. Harrison's solo is exquisite. The song and Alvin's playing are amazing. How could you improve on either of those solos. impossible. RIP AL and GH
Again!! Why have I not heard about Alvin Lee.....such a lovely blues song, heard so many but this is one of my favourite now....thanks for introducing yet another artist I have never heard before 👍👍👍
WOW, the last time I listened to 10 Years After was on the Woodstock LP. They were playing "I'm Going Home" and Alvin Lee was remarkable!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Loved that song.
One of the finest bands and certainly one of the best guitarists ever to play. The world is definitely lesser with him gone. Thank you for sharing, Ms. Royse! It's always a pleasure to listen to your choices. Be well and satisfied.
If you get the chance, check out “I’d Love To Change the World” that same group. We sang it as an anthem when it was first released and some of the “young ones” today are quite familiar with various covers of it without realizing how long ago it was written. It has timeless lyrics that we still need to hear today. Thoroughly enjoying your reactions. Thank you.
This has been one of my favorite songs ever since I heard it back in 1972. Ten Years After's album "A Space in Time" is one of my fave albums from the early 1970's. Like many teens, I learned to play it on the guitar (except for the lead solo of course). My other favorite TYA song is the Live version of "Choo Choo Mama": th-cam.com/video/vxFHlGHOP9g/w-d-xo.html And "Baby Won't You Let Me Rock n Roll You". 😃 😃 😃
Thank you so much for bringing back so many great memories of Bristol colston hall in the 70a 80s,saw ten years after prob half dozen times back then, last time was night of the guitars in the 80s,much underrated and still loved by all my generation, sadly missed Alvin, one of the true British greats,RIO
My gosh, one of greatest songs of our day. The vocals and guitar are on spot. This song really resonates his true heart felt emotions. Still brings tears to my eyes. Thanks for playing this classic again, loved it.
It's About Time someone does this song! Thank you. George Harrison on slide guitar in this song. Excellent! They were actually neighbors and good friends. Also this song was voted to be the greatest blues song ever written.
Wow..loved Alvin Lee and Ten Years After ...50 thousand miles beneath my brain, and the whole Crickle wood album....fantastic choice you played...thanks .
Thank you for this reaction. I listen to a lot of different genres and artists, so when I hear something new, I get really excited. This is wonderful!!!
Beautiful reaction to a beautiful song. Anyone who listens to this and feels nothing must be devoid of feelings entirely. RIP Alvin, thank you for all your wonderful music you left us with.
Thank you so much for this reaction. I haven't seen any reactions to Alvin or 10 Years After other than I'd Like To Change the World and that's is a shame. The other reactors are missing out on some great music. Alvin is one of favorite guitarist and much like David Gilmour can make you feel every note. Thanks again!!
Thank you for introducing me to this song-longtime fan of electric blues, but I did not know this one and have now played it about 50 times in the last 2 days!
wow stumbled across your video saw Alvin Lee TEN YEARS so many times at the Paradise Rock Club Boston and other VENUES and one evening show The BRITISH REVIVAL at CLUB CASINO HAMPTON BEACH NH saw the show and after the show me and one guy and his daughter hung out in the back parking lot with ERIC BURDEN and ALVIN LEE for like a half hour and chatted about stuff in general both so nice down to Earth ALVIN had faded pink BASKETBALL sneakers on COOL Eric had lots of wrist jewelry great memories YOU are so smart recognizing ALVIN LEE HE was SPECIAL.. PEACE to you and the WORLD THE Way ALVIN Wanted
I so much love that song and kudos to George Harrison for that tasty slide guitar solo (he is so good at that). And for your genuine touch and softness you got a new subscriber. Very much like how you react, it's not frantic and over the top. Simple and fresh. Keep up reacting to cool songs (and don't hesitate trying songs that have not been reacted to a million times before already).
You make this so amazing -- you're feeling the blues as we listen, too, what a marvelous experience! Back in the day, we'd sit around listening to whole records, just immersed, and talk about them, too, as you do. This is so lovely, thank you for putting this up and grooving with us!
Una de las mejores canciones de blues rock de todos los tiempos ,,y los dos solos de guitarra son historicos,,,plenitud de sentimiento, ejecución y técnica a raudales,,
So happy to see you like Alvin Lee's guitar. I remember buying this CD years ago, like 15 years ago in downtown Portland. I used to jam on this song on my guitar! His live performance at Woodstock is legendary!! I'm glad you like rock music, I owned 600 albums at one time. In the 90's.
The Drummer was Alan Young and the slide guitar was none other than George Harrison.
Thanks for that but of info as I didn't know who the drummer was. Cheers.
I saw Ten Years After in the early 70's. Alvin was one of the greatest guitarist of all time.
'72 and yes he was one of the greatest
My Idol ! Woodstock ? I was there and Alvin (Ten Years After) was the best of all, with Jimi !
The first time I ever saw him was when he played "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock. 😮 I have to edit because I want you to know that that was me.. jaw on the floor. Alvin is definitely one of my all time favorites.
Alvin Lee is in the top 3 🎸 players 👍‼️
Nah.. but he was a hell of a player
This song is a MASTERPIECE.
The Best Classic.
The great slide guitar work of George Harrison. Alvin Lee even tones down his playing to fit the mood of That Beautiful Slide. One of my all time favorites. Thank you.
Thanks for pointing this out. I love Harrison's slide guitar but had never heard him play a downbeat blues on slide. Not like this.
@@glass2467 Its him!
An absolutely PERFECT slide solo. One of Harrison's best.
@@JustGuitarLive I wouldn't say that, how about Cheer Down! But its your opinion and I respect that! God Bless.
@@chuckyoneil2853 Yeah I know it's my opinion, I said it. Perfect. And absolutely one of his best. Cheers.
Jim, don’t forget the truest blues guitar player/singer: Stevie Ray Vaughan!!!!💕
i agree...still cant figure out why he was constantly overlooked...for me jimi_1a, lee1b...
Cant believe you did not add Stevie Ray!!
And don’t forget the master , Glen Campbell 👍
Don't forget Peter Green and Mick Taylor!
The combination of Alvin and George is absolutely mind blowing here. ❤❤🎉🎉
Done properly, music is not heard, but felt. This was done properly.
And I feel this music all day, every day, every way and then some.
Alvin Lee is definitely one of Blues Greats but has often been overlooked and underrated. I am a blues guitarist and it surprises me how many other blues guitarists that I know have not heard of him. me to brother, and I have an inch on you.
One of the best ever
No kidding, it just drags the tears right out of ya!
@ Ken, I'm also a blues 🎸 and you are right, how many 🎸 players never heard of Alvin Lee
We are listening to Alvin 50 years down the road. Underrated? unappreciated? I don’t think so.
This is so insanely good, I can't believe I have not heard this before... wow!!!
This is my favorite song from him.
R.I.P. Alvin
Thats funny you said that...I said the exact same thing ...exact same thing when I first heard it....

Who's Elvis?
It was a sad day when Alvin Lee passed away...and from all things after a minor routine surgery.
I had an older friend who turned me onto Ten Years After (Alvin Lee) back in very early 80's and I never looked back. What a favor he did for me....
This is a masterpiece from Alvin.
Even Vivaldi and Bach were playing their air guitars in Heaven along with this one!
Alvin Lee has always been my favorite guitarist, and Ten Years After in my top 5 favorite bands of all time. R.I.P.
I really enjoyed seeing you react to Alvin Lee's most overlooked song. And kudos to George Harrison on slide guitar. This song hit me right between the eyes!

Never heard this one before. Just gorgeous
The whole album is great.
George Harrison’s slide guitar in the middle is fantastic!
George & Alvin...!!! LEGENDS...!!! 🎸🎤🎼

He's so good!!!
Were Ten Years After from Sheffield..?
Nottingham I think
Roy Buchannan, Rory Gallagher, Leslie West, Pete Townsend, Ritchie Blackmore
West was from the U.S but they were all terribly underrated
Rory Gallagher,
Alvin Lee was a super fav guitarist/singer of mine after he released "I'd love to change the world" and " I'm goin home" from Woodstock. RIP Alvin. Thx Rogue :)

RORY GALLAGHER Bad Penny live at Montreux 1986?... serious blues/rock!
One of the greatest pieces of art ever recorded!!! A profound masterpiece!!!!
You are a great listener. You have a sincere reaction and understand great musicianship
Just love this cut. I've not heard it before but it's right up my alley. Great music by a great artist.
I believe the drummer is Steve Grant. He performed this quite often with Alvin Lee.
Alvin Lees brother Rick Lee was the ten years after drummer
@@bobsam55 They shared the same last name (though for Alvin it was not his real last name), but they are not brothers, not even family.
@@bobsam55 Alvin and Ric was not Brothers
You make this so amazing -- you're feeling the blues as we listen, too, what a marvelous experience! Back in the day, we'd sit around listening to whole records, just immersed, and talk about them, too, as you do. This is so lovely, thank you for putting this up and grooving with us!
Rxyce.... I'd listen to anything so long as you were presenting it... your smile your genuine emotion😘
Saw Alvin Lee way back in the late 70s he was underrated as a guitarist.
Saw Ten Years After in 1970...blew the roof off the venue.

Say what you want, You are a blues hound. Love your reaction to this classic.
