Ten Years After years was an incredibly important British blues rock band who really exploded after their performance at Woodstock, but that was one of those bands that evolved drastically with every single album and yet they still had their own sound. Just incredible stuff. I've been surprised that you haven't really focused on them yet.
To be clear, George does the somewhat distorted slide guitar in the instrumental that he’s famous for. It’s Alvin Lee doing the beautifully gentle guitar work in the verses and chorus. Great tune and a new one even for a lot of us old heads so kudos for the choice. Can’t go much wrong with these two tho.

Actually the intro guitar sounds a lot like Harrison. The finish is of course Alvin Lee. I actually thought Alvin Lee went a little too far at the end. The beauty of this song comes from Alvin's lead vocal and the great slide guitar provided by George Harrison.
Harrison uses the same slide technique on his song Cheer Down. Check out John Lennon's How Do You Sleep. Harrison provides a blistering slide dobro guitar.
Love the vibe and feel from start to finish! Alvin Lee is greatly underrated IMO needs more recognition, great reaction!! I recommend to check out “I’d love to change the world” by Ten years after, this is such a great masterpiece with an iconic riff and vocals by Alvin Lee this song meant a lot to what was going on during that era.🔥🔥🔥

This song Bluest Blues off the (Pure Blues - Alvin Lee and Ten Years After) album along with "Outside my Window" and "Every Blues You've Ever Heard" are some of my favorites by him. The whole album is a master piece. They showcase his real skills.
Such a great song, with wonderful contributions by all musicians. Harrison always added to others. How he was. Alvin just great, vocally & on guitar!
Great song and beautiful collaboration, tremendous solos and feel from both of those masters. He is s great in his solo work But you really need to hear him with Ten Years After, hard to believe after this song but his best work is with that magnificent band. Try I'd Love to Change the World as a gateway song, it was their biggest hit and a timeless classic. They have many great tunes, enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
Alvin and George were neighbors and both had studios. Some of the best guitarist of the day hung out at their homes. Like Eric Clapton, Rory Gallagher, Pete Townsend and many more.

Absolutely! The Woodstock performance is incredibly passionate.
I have never heard this and it was really good. It reminded me of a load of songs by Snowy White. Alvin Lee's guitar style reminds me of the mega emotional playing of Walter Trout and Gary Moore.

Harrison recruited Gary Moore for the song, "She's My Baby", a song by The Traveling Wilburys. I love the Traveling Wilburys.

For me 10 Years After - was a band with a lot of technical skill, but not great song writing ability. So I gave up on them fairily early on. So it is really interesting to hear this track which is very good. George Harrison does not do fast guitar, but he found some great sequences of notes to play and his slide works is so distinctive. You need to try Rory Gallagher (e.g. Million Miles Away, I fall apart), and Gary Moore (particularly him live - many choices, but Still got the blues - is a good starting point). Both are great live blues guitarists.
If you gave up early on then you missed out. They really have great tracks, but they never were a studio band, it is live where they excel.
@@mor4725 I can believe that. There was so much to choose from at the time (early, mid 70's), and they were a few years before I really got into music. The first live band I saw was Rory Gallagher, and so my attention went in that direction.
Not great song writing ability? One of the greatest rock/social commentary songs of all time, "I'd Love To Change the World" says hold my beer.
No Harrison didn't play super fast, but with him every note mattered. Harrison also played about 80% of all lead guitar when it comes to the Beatles. Harrison was a fantastic guitar player that didn't require super speed. And I disagree with this guy, it's Harrison's slide guitar that grips you with this song. I actually thought Alvin Lee went a little too far at the end, all of that hand speed wasn't needed. And I actually thought the opening guitar riffs sounded a lot like George Harrison.

Eric Clapton never played a slide guitar like Harrison could. And Eric Clapton could never play as fast as Alvin could. So I'm not sure how you arrived at this conclusion.

Alvin played all through the intro and first 2 vocals - George Harrison played slide guitar leading up to the second verse segment, then Alvin did the extended outro.

One of the best songs ever I can hear every word the guitar is saying.
To me this is one Alvin Lee’s best pieces & that’s saying something because he put out some pretty amazing stuff. Like George in the Beatles though he never seems to get quite the top level spotlight as a guitarist (never understood that) though TYA did very well.

The Beatles quit touring after 1966 because they couldn't hear themselves play because of all those screaming girls that were wetting their pants in the process. They became studio musicians until that concert on the roof in London in 1969. Harrison didn't even want to do it but he went along with it. When he went solo he did tour. I sure wish I could have seen Mr Harrison live. I've been told his guitar playing was excellent. In 1974 when he toured with Tom Scott he did come down with laryngitis, or it could have been simply a sore throat, which took a toll on his singing. But he was right on in the singing department when he toured in Japan and other countries.
I would think he was playing his go too a Fender ES 335 and boy does he make that sound so sweet the tone is just heart wrenching.

I knew he was the son of a member but wasn’t sure which one. Then I heard it was the guitarist but I didn’t know who the guitarist was. Tonight I finally put it all together. Holy shite, his dad was brilliant!

Unfortunately, Alvin Lee passed away in March of 2013. Just over Ten Years Ago... Now Ten Years Passed... Alvin gets accolades for some of his best work. Thank you, Alvin and George, for this Masterpiece!!!!
While touring heavily Alvin Lee developed a heart murmur. It's been noted the use of drugs while on tour took its toll on him. So he ended up going to the doctor, and then he was operated on to correct this problem. Unfortunately complications with this surgery became fatal. Alvin Lee was 68 years old when he died. Ironically he lived 10 years longer than George Harrison who died at 58. 10 years, 10 years after, wow.
Recorded in 1927, Blind Willie Johnson's "Dark is the night cold is the ground" is one the greatest slide guitar pieces. So good, it was one of 27 pieces of music loaded onto Voyager and sent off to represent the diversity of life on earth.

This song was voted to be the greatest blues song ever written. Simply Awesome! Alvin has said he wanted to do this song harder but when George laid down the slide Alvin had to go another direction and became a lot more melodic and this is what it was. Alvin is the only guitarist to make a guitar really cry. You can hear it in this song.
That's kind of interesting because George Harrison slide guitar cries beautifully. Harrison was known for playing beautifully, not necessarily lightning finger fast like Alvin.
George was known as the "quiet Beatle". His guitar work was just slightly better than John or Paul, and he took to songwriting after just a couple years. By the end of the Beatles, George ended up having the biggest hits off their last album and several from the last few. Something, Here Comes the Sun, While My guitar Gently weeps, (except the live version at a funeral type festival for George, Prince ruined it and pissed off Tom Petty by showboating at a tribute for someone else). George was never quiet, it was just Lennon and McCartney were so loud.
Yes I agree 100%. Harrison actually started writing songs early though, on their very first album he wrote Don't Bother Me. I absolutely love this tune. As the years progressed I believe Harrison learned a lot from Lennon and McCartney, but he always had a way of bringing you quality songs that weren't mean spirited. I love his solo work also.
Alvin was my first Guitar Hero. George contributes. But this is Alvin's baby.

I have this on Pure Blues CD. wonderful clarity & sound. Then I have an awesome stereo. Why Alvin is not in the HOF is mindbogling. Think I love blues so much is the quality of the musicians. So much better than mainstream shit.
Ten Years After was a big band, late 60s early 70s. With them the Live versions of their stuff is always better. The Woodstock movie made them more well known. But the were definately part of the second wave on the London club scene. Alvin Lee was said to have the fastest fingers around. Any Ten Years After is cool: "I Woke Up This Morning. Good Morning Little Schoolgirl. I'm Going Home(live Woodstock). Id Love To Change The World. Workin On The Road"

The George part is only the slide guitar, very easy to tell apart, any other guitar is Alvin of course.
Yes, as you said, you can feel, those old musicians, were able to put their feelings, into their songs! That's the huge difference with the current musicians, even if there are the technical skills, creativity, which were so better than today! But, the emotions they are giving, that's the greatest difference, and why i'm not interested, and listening to any current music!
