The best wrangler is the Rubicon 2 door softop with the 6 speed manual, lockers and really no other options. 2 door with manual allows you to power through obstacles and makes for a more aggressive off roading experience. The unlimited weighs a LOT more.

Tedward - The unlimited weighs anywhere from 400 to 600 pounds more than the 2 door, and that's before you account for the hard top and automatic transmission. The most bare-bones stock trim: 'Sport' the 2 door JK wrangler with a stick shift actually is actually LIGHTER than the lightest available 2017/2018 Dodge Challenger( SXT V6 RWD). Driving a 4 door wrangler is no different than driving my '99 Silverado with a tighter turn radius. Pretty much the same gas mileage too.

thanks for sharing. I am so nervous and now filled better. Preparing for my 1st ever drive in Vancouver this sept, left hand driving. I rented a jeep wrangler and really need to see the car from the inside and definitely the roads with left hand driving style.

Jeep Wranglers are awesome. I have a 97 TJ. Just test drove a 2017 model. Have to say I was disappointed. It was very slow and I almost had to push the pedal to the floor to get it to go. Figured it would be faster with the new Pentastar engine. Also rear headrests blocked my view. Very hard to see out of the back window.

My 2001 wrangler sport is fine at highway speeds so its definitely exaggerated for the newer ones
Vid was surprisingly relaxing... been thinking on getting the 2-door JL coming out, but not so sure about it yet. I'm a pretty tall guy, so maybe a higher up vehicle (+rugged durability) would be what I need.

You said it had been 10 years since you’ve driven a wrangler and I’ve got a 2007 Jeep Wrangler I can confirm very sketchy at highway speeds.
The wind blows these vehicles all over the place on the highway. That's was very unnerving.

One question,did you close the back hatch before driving off? That might explain big guy laughing for no apparent reason as you pulled away and the extra road noise.

Love Wranglers. One thing i disagree with though. My first Wrangler was a 2016 Sport with a manual transmission and that manual transmission was so jerky and awkward. Never got a liking to it and i have driven many manual cars before. So i traded it for a 2016 Unlimited Sahara model with a auto and is it ever butter smooth now. I wouldn't recommend the manual with the wrangler.

hi, just wondering with the clutch causing kind of an issue with your knee hitting the steering? how tall are you, was thinking of renting a warngler for a long drive.
I'm only about 5'9" ... It may very well be possible that my seat was elevated too high, but I did feel comfortable in that spot aside from the knee space. I wouldn't let it be a deal breaker if you were considering taking the car for a long cruise.
thanks Ted, appreciate the feedback. Part of the rental idea is to build on the thought of getting the JL, whichever trim when it comes out. I suppose the cabin specs will change that much if at all.
Why in jeeps you would have to turn the wheel much more when you turn and merge lanes but in a regular car you wouldn’t ?

Winding Road, were you there this past Saturday? I took a picture of this Wrangler when I was there July 22nd and it had orange stripes on it and the grille was orange too.
It used to have orange livery (gulf style) but the owner removed it just before this video was shot.

Question, how is a manual as a daily driver? I understand for offroading a manual is useful or not, but as a dd I think would be annoying?

Really ? Much easier to handle on anything other than dry roads. You slow the car down vs the tires sliding on water or icy roads. You controls the car vs the car controlling you.

Auto is easier, but more importantly you won't lunch your clutch!
Preference really. Manual is a little harder to master in rough terrain.

Eh. I think I'll go with the 4Runner
It's funny you say that, as the owner of an old 4Runner(1991) I'm considering replacing it with one of these(waiting for the JL and deciding if I want that or a JK which they are planning to sell alongside the JL for a few months, presumably with a price drop). It comes down to me being quite happy with my 4Runner but because I like using it for long trips with mild to moderate off-road portions to camp and explore I tend to find myself in some pretty remote spots. While the 4Runner has yet to let me down in any way, it's still a 25 year old truck with over 200,000 miles on the clock and the peace of mind from a newer vehicle would make these trips a lot more fun. The JKU is the closest match for the size and capability(the new 4runner is much bigger, which on the trail is not a good thing and I just don't need the extra space), I get to keep a manual which is important but not crucial for me, and as a bonus I get all the fun Jeep things like the roof and doors coming off. And I already know I'm cool with the creature comforts of a 91 4Runner so this will be fine

Snowbaru Looks are pretty subjective. I think the 4Runner is WAYYYYY better looking than the Wrangler, but that's just my opinion.

Scott Watkins I'd definitely go with the 4Runner. More reliable and better on-road manners. These Jeeps aren't made to be everyday drivers, despite their popularity.

Lone Badger because any child can drive an auto. Manuals are for expert drivers that actually have skill. A Jeep is a mans vehicle and a mans vehicle needs a real transmission.

Wheeling. Better gas mileage. Easier to get yourself out of snow if you find yourself in an unsuspecting bank.. Cheaper generally too. I won't buy an auto if I can get away with it.
