    I think APBA’s fielding is very underrated because for certain situations their is a team rating and other situations an infield team rating while at the same time by using advanced basic you have the individual fielding ratings. Thanks for doing this!

      I agree that that is a very interesting and unique way to compute defense. I do like that about ABPA. :-)

    Even though APBA Basic is simple it is amazing how accurate it is.

    Alan Roth - one of baseballs first great statisticians, used to be interviewed on the old Saturday game of the week in the early 1960’s. He used to advocate for the team error. He was the first person ever to be hired by a team, the Brooklyn Dodgers, and would mention APBA at times. I have played APBA since 1963 (I still use those game boards) and I agree with your comments. On my 4 season replays APBA was very accurate within reason regarding batting averages and Homeruns and pitchers k’s and Walks and W-L records of the pitchers was reasonably close.

    Thank you Gamer. The beauty of APBA Basic is that it is simple and easy and gives a nice experience. If people want more, they have to play the Master game or play something else. You and Tbo finally got me to try Replay Baseball, but basic has always been fun. I also play Skeetersoft which is like basic with some more advanced stuff built in.
    Always enjoy your informational talks. I’m with you watching people play. Unless it is teaching me something about the game, not as interested. Great to see your show still going

      I think you will like NPNG+. It is very much like APBA. More advanced but not like the Master game. For me the APBA Master game is pretty much unplayable. I know others like it a lot but it's too cumbersome for me to enjoy. I really like NPNG+, though. Advanced but not too cumbersome.
      And, like others, I'm glad to see you are back.

    Replay Gamer. It is great seeing you back on your channel. Without good ratings of the cards, you may as well not play the game. I think it is great that you are doing your own tweaking to improve the ratings of the players. I would love to see some games on your channel but it is your channel and as we all know, if the games become a job, there is no fun in that. Thanks for another Tabletop Talk.

    My version is somewhere in between yours and the Marino, Oz, Duval boards. I added some more stuff beyond lefty/righty. But still don't do base advances. However I recently did add the advanced stealing. I've changed the boards where I never do team defense ratings. My version always has individual ratings. I also have a much different HR adjustment system I built into my boards based off of those APBA HR pitchers ratings. However does not involve another dice roll.

    • @TheReplayGamer
      @TheReplayGamer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      APBA is very tweakable! Lol. I imagine my experience with it will probably evolve as I play it more too. :-)

    • @SweetLouieBello
      @SweetLouieBello ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheReplayGamer Most certainly. My tweaks have definitely evolved over the years to get to the point I'm at. I still have two areas I'm working on...pitcher's fatigue that carries over to the next games (this one I had some ideas I took notes on. but can't decipher what I meant by my notes lol) & ballpark adjustments for my HR adjustments. I know what I want to do with that. However it will take some work and have to come up with for each stadium. Say old Yankee stadium for instance... I left handed pool hitter would quicker hit a HR. While a right handed hitter will cut back on his HR's. May be a little too much work to figure all that out.

    • @TheReplayGamer
      @TheReplayGamer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SweetLouieBello Yeah, I don't want to get to the point that it's too complicated and then it loses that simple charm that I enjoy about it. So, I'm just trying to only tackle the MAJOR things that bother me... :-)

  • @justinludwig726
    @justinludwig726 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When I was playing APBA, I tried a lot of the charts and changes you outlined. Ultimately, I got a little too frustrated with hits mostly changing singles to outs and no lefty/righty homerun changes for hitters. The baserunning for basic is nice to have it describe the entire play but it had too little variation compared to something like Replay where it has singles and doubles in multiple columns. Most doubles would be a #6, which for me resulted in the same type of double every time.

      Hey Justin, I get it. Every game does different things well and all of us have certain things that are more important to us than others. Very thankful that we have some wonderful options to choose from. I appreciate the comment. :-)

    Great video! I have a question. On your symbols guide with HR ratings, off to the left are two sets of pitcher grades, which are slightly different from each other. Then you have the big card with pitcher grades, which is slightly different from my cards. For instance, a 10 is a B pitcher on my cards. Just wondering how I should apply the pitcher number grades.

    Gamer, I love the videos and thanks for being back! In your opinion, what are the best baseball sims for replays of seasons like multiple games. I'm looking to do about 40 to 50 games for a season. I'm going to be casual on stats. More wins and losses. Also, which sims are best for one off games? I need something with great flow to get some games done and see the season unfold! Thanks so much!

    • @TheReplayGamer
      @TheReplayGamer  ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate the comments. IMHO APBA basic plays the smoothest to allow one to get through multiple games. However, it's hard to recommend a particular sim, as they all do different things well and other things not quite as well and everyone has different things that they value as more important than others. :-)

    Welcome back, RG! Love all your content, so your absence was felt by the community.
    Played a ton of APBA in my teenage years, but ultimately the pitching phase of the game is just too abstract for my personal preference. Not a big fan of “rare plays” in any game. To me they’re fabricated and not based in any kind of real likelihood of occurring.

    • @TheReplayGamer
      @TheReplayGamer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Joel, I appreciate the comments. I would agree that APBA is somewhat abstract. So far, it's not bothering me... but that's subject to change. Lol. :-)
